One has to gather, teach and learn in order to perpetuate a myth. An atheist only need think logically and realisticly to reach the same conclusions as others without any coaching. They had the perfect example of this. Rep. Giffords getting shot in the head and others being killed and somehow it's all a miracle because she lived. A miracle would be if 6 rounds were fired and nobody was hit. Logic and religion go together like oil and water and nobody had to teach me that.
the problem with this guy(and may other theists)is,that he cannot understand, that humans can only think succesfully about different things,if they do it with scientific methods.you can not say something is a miracle,if you can not say what a miracle ist.but after this had been explained to him,he just says that you cannot study this in university.so that shows that thinking about things in the only correct way(by science)always seems to be "only scientists complex work" for those theists.
My thought is that this typical Christian is thinking,"oh god why did you let me call the Atheist Experience, I made a total bumbling idiot of myself" "I'm so embarrassed"
@WeGameAlotSir Yeah, but supposing he is literally mentally challenged, they should notice he's not the brightest and stopping hammering him with cornering questions. What good is it to win a debate with someone slower than normal? It's like a man fighting a woman; if he wins he still looses because he beat a woman.
@leemorethomas let's not suppose that because he is most likely not. they don't hammer him with cornering questions he makes a point they make a counter argument. That's the whole show, people call with a question they answer it then ask a follow up question.
@WeGameAlotSir I am an experienced debater. I can see these women are experienced, at least the one that spoke more. She can tell this man is not a researcher and happily asked him leading questions. If he knew what she was doing he would not answer the way he did, but he didn't know.

Tracie is brilliant, but it's kinda annoying how she talks over Jen, even interrupting Jen w. a dissmissive hand-shush gesture when Jen's starting to speak. I've noticed Tracie seems to do this a lot on other episodes where she's paired w/ Jen. I love ya Tracie, but damn, let Jen come up for air & talk once in a while!

He isnt a rabid Christian and it cant be easy for him having his life under attack.
I feel bad for Mike, and I don't mean that in a condescending way. Unlike so many christians who call, he seems like a genuinely nice person whose only mistake is thinking that he has morality because of his religion, not in spite of it.

I have to say, this man made a herculean effort to wrap his brain around concepts that were alien to him, and seemed to make an honest attempt at understanding. He at least came away with an apparently changed attitude about the atheist community. I applaud his attempt however limited his final understanding was, it was a step in a good direction.

What a great heart this guy seems to have. He's so sincere and respectful in trying to understand Tracie's explanations Although others have said that already, I couldn't help saying it again. His openness and level of humility are big turn-ons.
I didn't think he was a moron or an idiot. He was struggling with some very big and personal questions, and remained polite throughout. I think Tracie handled the questions very well, making a big deal to show that just because a doctrine does bad things doesn't mean that the people that follow it are bad people if they themselves don't undertake the bad parts. However them believing does enable others that do the bad things, which is why overall it can be harmful.
@MrHollywood1717 Come on man, he's just misinformed. He clearly wants to do good for people, and he seems like good man, it's not his fault that his church, country and society fed him so much wrong information.
This is why I'm kinda against this types of religion.
A miracle is a suspension of the normal laws of nature..
If it had glanced off the person's forehead in an impossible way, that would be a miracle. If it had passed through their brain causing no damage, that would be a miracle.
Someone getting shot in the head, and the bullet not completely destroying their brain, is not a miracle UNLESS the normal laws of nature were suspended.
We need to make a new-new-testament? Some people can not function without being on their knees, considered submissive. Poke-Poke-Poke is there anybody in there??
@trigg3r305 Correct. What's your point? Sadly Google has the definition of Atheism wrong, the true definition is "to reject the claim that there is a god due to lack of evidence."
The default position is Atheism until proven religion.
@trigg3r305 No one can prove there isn't anything, but a god could easily be proven. No one can prove there aren't unicorns, but that doesn't stop anyone from saying that there aren't any unicorns, but if I had a unicorn I could easily prove that it was real. So, I can say there is no god in the same way that I can say there are no unicorns.
You can hear the frustration in his voice as the two woman pulverises his worldview. With a little imagination you can pretty much hear his heart breaking at one point. It's pretty rough how they first go at it. I kind of feel sorry for him. The tone softens up towards the end though. Hopefully when the chock settles he'll see atheists in a new (positive?) light. :-)
6999 views? IF YOU TURN UPSIDE DOWN THAT'S LIKE THE NUMBER OF THE DEVIL. Definitive proof that atheists are devils coming down to Earth to deliver us to Cthulhu!
Most of these people that call in, I just cringe, but I legitimately feel bad for this guy. I hope he is able to progress out of his beliefs and seek the truth, and also be content in that truth.
A guy who seems decent has been poisoned by religion. When I was a young child I collected for missionaries by selling photos of 'sunny smiles' in the UK. Sometimes at night I realize that I have facilitated utter vileness and those who have been polluted by these missionaries I helped to fund might be directly responsible for these vile murders.
When he says people getting shot through their head don't survive without god, I'd just have to point out the case of Phineas Gage, who survived a three and a half foot tamping iron going through his skull. He was not saved, but destroyed, the damage to his brain leading to him being a vulgar, impatient and animalistic. This is certainly a fate worse than death and I believe it would have been a miracle for him to die then, rather that suffer for the rest of his life.
I sincerely feel sorry for this guy, he is so uneducated and you can feel his anguish through the phone, he's also very humble and polite and seems to be a nice person, poor guy, i wish he hadn't called.
@joaoqftito when i was watching through pt. 1, i was expecting this guy to escalate into a complete nut bag at some point during pt. 2. But you're right, i feel bad for this guy as he was genuinely nice guy with a lack of understanding of reality. Though on the other hand, he was given food for thought and probably more conflicted now then he's ever been..... probably.
@joaoqftito Although i agree that I feel sorry for this gentlemen..It's great that he called, even better that people listened. Hopefully this man will now try to better educate himself on the foundations of his beliefs along with other religious viewers.Hopefully then they can start to see their religion what for it is.
I completely agree with you. He isn't rude or smug as some callers can be. He seems genuinely willing to to try and understand their arguments. The trouble is, his mind has been atrophied by his religion and he has trouble understanding the conversation at times. I could totally see this guy becoming an atheist if he spent some serious time studying and improving his critical thinking skills.
@Textra1 I totally agree with you because I was once like this caller. and looking back i shiver with my own ignorance. thank god lol I stopped and realized how freeing it is to finally use my brain to think.
@joaoqftit I pretty much agree with you. I suppose that there's some value in being reminded that a lot of these people are simply ignorant. I use that word rather than stupid or mean spirited. Even if they can be shown their ignorance, they're too heavily invested in their current belief structure to change.
You know, I think they may have actually opened that dudes eyes a little bit and hopefully he is not so hostile towards atheists now that he has actually spoken with a few. They may have even gotten him to think about his beliefs, although i won't hold my breath. A little more tolerance and understanding between both groups is nevertheless a good thing IMO.
@s5b678 no they havnt buddy. that mark guy called back few times, after this. he's still on the same boat and throwing same arguments around. he hasnt moved a bit, NOT A BIT... and that is the only reason I have stopped debating theists cos they dont WANNA see the reality, its too scary for them.
So according to this guy god hates millions of children in Ethiopia and hundreds of thousands in this country and around the world who are suffering and dying from disease and hunger, and the nine year old girl in the crowd that day but he loved the Politician. Gods morality sucks...Maybe if we prayed to the Flying unicorn he would feed and save the children that god hates...hehehehe....I don't believe in god thank god...er goodness.
Someone give this woman some budget! This typifies for me the almost superhuman patience that the so-called 'new atheists' can show. I love her!
GREAT exchange. The caller is clearly under educated but he's actually quite moderate and does listen as his arguments (that are the same as all religious apologists) are dismantled one by one.
There is another video when Mike called in to bash homosexuality and all the comments agree, Mike is a homosexual who goes to church to hide his homosexuality
Mike, you are full of crap, you christianosaurus wrecks.
He's putting on a false voice he's so terrified his church will recognise him saying what he really thinks,, he's done that a few times now. That, or he's worried the people on the show will recognise him... Which would be interesting.
i feel like atheism would be much more popular if it was brought with peace and understanding like this. so many of the other videos were so negative and consisted of debate that attacks instead of communicates... we as atheists should learn a lesson from this: angry people will not change their opinion, only through peaceful dialogue can we learn from each other
If the gun would have failed to shoot at the crowd because of an untimely mechanical flaw it still would've had a logical explanation without resorting to "miracles". How can the caller believe that a miracle occured with all that damage to innocent people. Where the f**k was god?
why didnt god prevent the shooting in the first place???? He's so omnipotent & powerful do u mean to say he didnt see it coming??? he knows the number of hairs on our heads but he cant prevent an accident???????/hmmmmmmmmm
Tracie and Jen are the bomb! I got such a kick out of the caller's final remarks about how there are a lot of things in the Bible people don't like and maybe we should get rid of them! Wait a second, isn't the Bible the inerrant word of God? Who gets appointed to redact God's inerrant word?
I think Mike is a perfect example of why religion remains so prevalent. It is rather obvious that Mike is not what we could call "intellectually equipped" when it comes to viewing the world around him. I'm not calling Mike stupid but It's no wonder that so many believe because breaking away from that requires at least some intellectual capacity. Those who do not posses it naturally feel more secure when others are willing to do the thinking for them. Mike's not stupid but he IS a sheep.
This guy sounds like he's in his twenties, but he's arguing at a lower level than the average 8-year-old. I may have overestimated his knowledge base.
tracie should be a psychiatrist. seriously, she is the best host. she never gets upset, never raises her voice, and instead of just serving an argument to the caller, she asks him questions leading him to realise the lack of logic in their thinking. it's the socratic method at work. brilliant!
I love all the hosts of TAE. Maybe with the exception for Don. I like him, but he says "right" almost after every one of his sentences. I can get annoying. But fuck yeah, love this show! Tracie and Jen were awesome with this member of Austin Stone. Man, but that chruch...:re:
I thought I was good at arguing for atheism but these people know their sh!t... anyone that phones up with a half-baked argument is gonna get their asses handed to them
if it's a miracle that a person survives a bullet to the head, then you also have to credit god with having this bullet in their head to begin with

athiest and religion cant prove there is or there isnt a GOD
trigg3r305 2 months ago
@trigg3r305 Correct. What's your point? Sadly Google has the definition of Atheism wrong, the true definition is "to reject the claim that there is a god due to lack of evidence."
The default position is Atheism until proven religion.
buffdude623 2 months ago in playlist More videos from TheMidwestAtheist
@trigg3r305 No one can prove there isn't anything, but a god could easily be proven. No one can prove there aren't unicorns, but that doesn't stop anyone from saying that there aren't any unicorns, but if I had a unicorn I could easily prove that it was real. So, I can say there is no god in the same way that I can say there are no unicorns.
JonO387 2 months ago
@trigg3r305 it depends on the definition of the god being claimed.
estevancarlos 2 months ago
@trigg3r305 That's a point T.A.E. is always trying to make. That is why they and I are Atheist/Skeptics.

Sometimes at night I realize that I have facilitated utter vileness and those who have been polluted by these missionaries I helped to fund might be directly responsible for these vile murders.
cnocspeireag 3 months ago

@joaoqftito He has called back several times since, and unfortunately he isn't improving. Still hopelessly hooked on religion.

@joaoqftito when i was watching through pt. 1, i was expecting this guy to escalate into a complete nut bag at some point during pt. 2. But you're right, i feel bad for this guy as he was genuinely nice guy with a lack of understanding of reality. Though on the other hand, he was given food for thought and probably more conflicted now then he's ever been..... probably.
feistychick80 2 months ago
@joaoqftito Although i agree that I feel sorry for this gentlemen..It's great that he called, even better that people listened. Hopefully this man will now try to better educate himself on the foundations of his beliefs along with other religious viewers.Hopefully then they can start to see their religion what for it is.
Reaper818dn 2 months ago 3
@joaoqftito

@Textra1 I totally agree with you because I was once like this caller. and looking back i shiver with my own ignorance. thank god lol I stopped and realized how freeing it is to finally use my brain to think.

bardiche1989 1 month ago
@joaoqftit I pretty much agree with you. I suppose that there's some value in being reminded that a lot of these people are simply ignorant. I use that word rather than stupid or mean spirited. Even if they can be shown their ignorance, they're too heavily invested in their current belief structure to change.

You know, I think they may have actually opened that dudes eyes a little bit and hopefully he is not so hostile towards atheists now that he has actually spoken with a few. They may have even gotten him to think about his beliefs, although i won't hold my breath. A little more tolerance and understanding between both groups is nevertheless a good thing IMO.
s5b678 3 months ago
@s5b678 no they havnt buddy. that mark guy called back few times, after this. he's still on the same boat and throwing same arguments around. he hasnt moved a bit, NOT A BIT... and that is the only reason I have stopped debating theists cos they dont WANNA see the reality, its too scary for them.
chinamanspeakenlis 3 months ago
So according to this guy god hates millions of children in Ethiopia and hundreds of thousands in this country and around the world who are suffering and dying from disease and hunger, and the nine year old girl in the crowd that day but he loved the Politician. Gods morality sucks...Maybe if we prayed to the Flying unicorn he would feed and save the children that god hates...hehehehe....I don't believe in god thank god...er goodness.
robtay1963 3 months ago 3
Someone give this woman some budget! This typifies for me the almost superhuman patience that the so-called 'new atheists' can show. I love her!
GREAT exchange. The caller is clearly under educated but he's actually quite moderate and does listen as his arguments (that are the same as all religious apologists) are dismantled one by one.

He's putting on a false voice he's so terrified his church will recognise him saying what he really thinks,, he's done that a few times now. That, or he's worried the people on the show will recognise him... Which would be interesting.

i feel like atheism would be much more popular if it was brought with peace and understanding like this. so many of the other videos were so negative and consisted of debate that attacks instead of communicates... we as atheists should learn a lesson from this: angry people will not change their opinion, only through peaceful dialogue can we learn from each other
1982kanga 3 months ago
If the gun would have failed to shoot at the crowd because of an untimely mechanical flaw it still would've had a logical explanation without resorting to "miracles". How can the caller believe that a miracle occured with all that damage to innocent people. Where the f**k was god?
cuevarap 3 months ago
why didnt god prevent the shooting in the first place????

What a moron.
The rat can be cured of cancer, just like a human. But if it happens to a human, it´s a miracle, but not if it happens to the rats.
Then a miracle is God showing you that he loves you. Ok. So, he doesn't like the others who didn't get a miracle? Jerk...

tracie should be a psychiatrist. seriously, she is the best host. she never gets upset, never raises her voice, and instead of just serving an argument to the caller, she asks him questions leading him to realise the lack of logic in their thinking. it's the socratic method at work. brilliant!
