  • Jerome = K1 LEGEND !

  • I like the spinning back kick. The method Le Banner is using the the Taekwondo method(Yes, there IS a difference between Taekwondo and Karate methods). Its a bastardized version of it but its decently done.

Personally, I'd never use a jumping spin kick in a real fight or even in a ring fight because of the risk to the person getting kicked.

  • @hazza3 karate only had linear kicks to begin with. and turning away was a sign of weakness. there was no "back kick" before tkd. tkd even introduced the "turning side kick", which is the pre-cursor to the modern back kick! there are FOUR kicks in shotokan karate, and TWO kicks in okinawan karate - mae geri and yoko geri (makes sense, as karate was initially a LINEAR style). your claim that tkd bastardized its own kick is ludicrous. do some research, i haven't made those numbers up.

  • @ubersum1 I didn't say Karate.

  • @hazza3 not to insult your style. i personally think that four kicks may even be enough. but to claim that karate invented this technique really is ludicrous.

  • @ubersum1 I didn't say Karate, I said Taekwondo and it is true. The first time any Kickboxer used it was during the 90's I think in K-1. Joe Lewis, Andy Hug and Chuck Norris were among the first to use the Spinning Back Kick in a Kickboxing Ring and they never used the side kick or spinning back kick until after they recieved training in American Taekwondo. No other system had ever used this method for spin kicks.

  • the ways he use the kick is not good. if he do that in a combat, maybe will get a knock out. a figther who really knows how to kick (back kick, etc). will kick him first. i practice taekwondo and i say again: he dont kick very well, and the problem is not about "how hard he kick" its about "technique"

  • @sabiaband You practice taekwondo so you don't punch very well also... There's always a chance of being KO'd in these situations, no matter the way you kick.

  • This is a jumping spinning side kick. (His foot and femur are horizontal upon landing) A back kick will land with the toes and kneecap pointing towards the floor.

  • A CLEAR COMBAT MOMENT: That is a spinning side kick, a spinning back kick is with the knee going under and back. It is used more for groin shots in self defense.

Cung Le uses this kick very effectively. You have to know how to set it up.

    Clear Combat Fighting System

  • This guys so big. Their heads almost touch ceiling.

  • It's a great move even the "kickboxing bear" uses it. Just google kickboxing bear"

  • thats jump spinning back kick

  • Tyson blocks it like the dude does, While he's landing after the kick Tyson Drown cross hooks him in the face.

  • these guys look like giants!

  • its a fucking jump spin side kick, not a back kick at all fucktard

  • kicks like these should only be executed as a "finishing move".... or when your oponent is dazed.

timing is very important for kicks like these. i'm sure jerome knows that too

  • Nice kick. Is that not a JUMP spinning back kick though?

  • big fucking french man never does that move

  • i bet he's a donnie yen fan

  • i am!

  • me 2

  • hi fives for that =)

  • YEAH!

  • did we just automaticaly become best friends??

  • yeah we did hahaha

  • Hey he actually did that kick rather well. We just call it a jump back kick but well done.

To us a spinning back kick would be what most call a spinning hook, wheel or heel kick.

  • he doesn't need to use his kicks much.everyone wants him to punch.that's why he's still loved in k1.i think he's not coached well.he has to change his corner men.

  • He does it about every year... every year new coach

  • @lumberjack988 Keep Punching ? No , that's Boxing then NOT Muay Thai . Le Banner Must Use KICKS , he is Muay Thai Fighter .

  • one of the best fighter in K1!!!!!

  • I'm with Bruce Lee, head kicks are pointless. That kind of kick to the body would crumble a person.

  • bruce lee never said that head kicks are pointless

  • Part of Jeet Kune Do, low kicks are favorable since they are faster and very powerful.

  • @1bol1 The kick above is fanciful! When in combat, other forms of attack would be more efficient! Bruce Lee said "simplicity" & "longest weapon nearest target" So by that, I wouldn't imagine the kick we see above to be used by Bruce (other than in movies) In a documented fight with a punk in the street (where Bruce was hassled for no reason) Bruce shin kicked & back-fisted him! Saying that, the kick above would cause serious damage if it landed, plus his technique was very good! Peace

  • yyeam you fat no! if the guys a proffesional kickboxer he isnt gunna not know what he duing you donut..and i learn sanshou sanda and the spinning back kick with a jump is very quick and unpredictable to those who no how to do it!

  • Stop criticising his kick, this guy was an amazing kickboxer who fought in K1. I'm 100 % sure he knows what he's doing. When your in K1 and your kickboxing profesionally, only then is it worth criticising, otherwise its like me going onto a Chuck Liddell fight and criticising the way he punches. Except I'm the one behind a computer screen whilst Chuck is pulling in millions and training hours upon hours a day.

  • well said

  • i agreed, ppl do things differently. if it is different from urs doesnt mean they cant do it.

  • @Ritley123 That was kind of a bad example, because Chuck is a terribly sloppy boxer...

  • @ruebuscm LOL! An you just made it a perfect example (:

  • @Ritley123 you don't have to be a "professional" anything to be able to critique someone's technique. don't be such a whiner. people will have their opinions, and people will have their own version of the technique that they feel is right. what a ridiculous argument. you have to be better than someone else to give your opinion? load of bollocks.

  • im sure he's good and all.. but it would help him alot if he did that kick from a standing guard instead of adding an extra jump in, that makes it too obvious.. and also to keep his guard up while hedoes it, this wil help with his balance more, and this way is much quicker too.

  • If he had kicked seriously he would have knocked out the poor guy :) I guess this is just a fancy demo, perfectly made and well looking, don't be so critical about it :)

And you know its not easy, usually this kick looks much uglier :)

  • oh i know mate, learning it myself wasnt an easy thing, but there was just a couple of pointers incase anyone was to try and learn from this video

  • When you talk about Muay thai are you refering to Muay thai sport or Muay thai real original Matial art.

  • he never used that technique

  • xD too fun !!

    heya =) qs

  • lol no offense and sorry for my ignorance but...i thought mhuay thai only used roundhouse and front kicks, i htink thats awesome that they use more than just the frikin roundhouse and puching kick, i think its boring to watch mhuay thai fighter who done use more than just roundhosue, lmao im a spin kick KO fan!!!

  • They are seldom used. Roundhouses are most effective.

  • that back kick comes from either tkd or karate. Traditional muay thai, from my knowledge, doesn't incorporate spinning back kicks to its arsenal. That doesn't mean that people cannot apply it in the ring. In the ring, they also apply some western boxing techniques that may not be traditional to muay thai. But then again, muay thai has evolved too. You just don't see that that often because it leaves the fighter vulnerable to an attack. I'm sure they apply it during sparring.

  • Kickboxing. Western MT, whatever you want to call it. I've also seen Jerome do a kakootogi (axe kick) - so that's definitely karate. Just shows how Western schools incorporate other things, although the primary base is muay Thai

  • you're right. I was mostly referring to muay thai from thailand.

  • @enigma562 Jerome Le Banner isnt a muay thai fighter he is a kickboxer

  • @shuriken86 kickboxing is muay thai. just more adapted. or atleast thats what ive heard.

  • @shuriken86 Kickboxing is not what it used to be. I've seen thai fighters use the back kick and kickboxers use the thai roundhouse kick and knees. What sets these apart are the rules the compete under. Jerome uses thai kicks, boxing, and other techniques outside of muay thai. That's the point I was trying to make. Nowadays, they're all in a way, muay thai fighters if they use knees. Rules are modified but I'm sure that when Jerome started, he probably competed in thai rules like other

  • @enigma562 Well actually some guys in K-1 are muay thai fighters, however alot of them are also kickboxers, for instance, the Dutch Style of Kickboxing, is Muay Thai influenced but its not exactly muay thai. For instance alot of the time when a kickboxer kicks, Its only to score points, they don't throw there whole hip into for lots of power like the Thais. Also too Real Muay Thai fighters don't do as boxing, alot of Kickboxers in K-1 can get away with Bobbing and weaving but thats not int muayT

  • @shuriken86 Thanks for the insight.

  • The way of the eight limbs !

  • @shuriken86 Muay-thai is dangerous. Turning your back to your opponent could result in a KO against you. Rounshouse kicks are extremely fast and spinning kicks are obviously slower. They are effective in some occasions only. Remember... knees and elbows are allowed... it becomes more dangerous.

  • @becel666 Actually a spinning kick isn't really slow. All kicks really depend on how much effort you put into them in a fight. Personally I don't find roundhouses all that fast or effective. You only use half of your legs mass and strength and the velocity of the strike isn't as great. The reason the Spinning Back Kick is faster and more powerful is because its a thrusting technique and not an arched technique. Arching strikes are actually slower.

  • I was astonished to see mark hunt throw this kick one time with accuracy, balance, and precision. It's cool to see big guys use these type of techniques.

  • very good work from jerome le banner

but i ting that's what we have expected from him :D

  • A true back kick you strike with the heel. I have found that many styles turn and throw a side kick and call it a back kick. A true back kick has more power than when you turn and throw a side kick but it can be tricky to get the heel to stick out. Big guy like that though i don't think it males any diff your going to go down if he connects lol

  • im not an expert but wouldnt that leave you kinda open when you land

  • VERY good for a big guy...

  • isnt that spinning back-kick from regular kickboxing not muay thai? because from what i know muay thai doest really use those kinda kicks; they try to keep things simpler but more powerful

  • Your right!

  • yo this man is nice! a freaking fighting machine. that spining back kick will pwn ur chest and ribs in one blow.

  • never thought Jerome Le Banner was that supple

  • Spinning back kick, spinning side kick, ... What the hell's the difference? I'm readin' the arguments.

  • i dunno, maybe in spinning back kick u hit with the heel and in spinning side kick u kick with the blade of the foot (just like in regular sidekick)

  • Well I see no difference. It's da same goddamn kick 2 me. And I care not what any1 says.

  • horse kick = back kick

  • It is a spinning side kick, not a back kick (which is technically a turning back kick).

In a turning back kick you do not lift your leg out to the side, you just bend your knee and bring you kicking foot up to your but, and then extended straight back.

He is bringing up his knee and leg out to the side - it is a side kick.

  • you're right, i was thinking the same.

  • Nope it is a JUMP spinning side kick

  • For a big man, Le Banner's got surprisingly good technique

  • isent this a spinning side kick?

  • nope spinning back kick

  • congrats on being able to read the video's incorrect title. this is a spinning side kick.

  • yes it is.

  • its slow mo..mo

  • HA! I suppose an ashtray or a chair would kinda mess with my mojo. Good thinkin. I might just try that! Lmao!

  • Dude, if you try that jump spin back on someone outside a bar you're gonna get trounced. wicked nice lookin tho.

  • I'm not a good stand up fighter at all but I've actually done that inside a bar and didn't get trounced. I just set it up by throwing an ashtray at him :)

  • Ya, I would say it might work in the street, maybe but not against a good grappler. There's a reason people jump like that in K-1 and not in MMA. But he probably wouldn't train like that for MMA anyways.

  • lol at Wiegieboard's comment. Same thing happened to me: I threw a chair at a guy and jump kicked him. IMHO it works. Even if the guy's trained how's he gonna see my foot when he's blinded by a chair hurling towards him? besides what kind of grappler/mma/whatever fighter trains against a chair thrown at them?

  • im pretty sure if someone like jlb did it, he would get it.

  • Please, people in bars, or the street in general, do not know how to fight for shit.

Having said that, if a chump sees this over the internet and tries to do it in a bar, of course he has a risk of getting his ass handed.

But if you have decent fighting skills (or even rudimentary ones), you should be able to pull it off against your plain vanilla bar chump.

  • I would just like to pount out jerome that when you throw your back kick from a jump it is much easier to be stuffed. By stuffed I mean your opponnent rushing you when he see's it coming. My own brother actually used to throw it like that, he had a fight and his opponnent kept on stuffing him. If the rules had been to allow ground fighting he would have been in trouble. Fortunately for him there was no ground fighting and he won

  • Thats a pretty weak setup, one tiny jab. If your opponent decides to rush you following that jab which is obviously a feint, then ur gonna get a face full of leather. Better to set up with a one two, then kick, using the one two to help spin him.

  • or you can be awesome like Andy Hug (may he RIP) and do it so fast you own the guy rushing in :)

  • yes, u could do that :)

  • nice balance.
