DH IS responsible for fusing together Melodic Death Metal & Hardcore Punk but that doesn't mean they're "Metalcore". This term has become so misconstrued that bands like Winds of Plague, Beneath The Massacre, Born of Osiris, Devil Wears Prada only adhere to this typical, worn out, watered-down gay screaming break down "core" bullshit.

But for DH while the punk influences are strong & apparent, in the long run they kinda shed away from what everyone knows now as the Metalcore term cuz to they do it not so much as brutal but really heavy thus NWOAHM. & Shadows Fall, Lamb Of God, & DH are really the only bands that strictly adhere to the term. Well they are Thrash Metal Initially cuz this song and mostly every DH song is driving & that is the key to Thrash Metal. Plus DH has their slogan Live to Thrash & Thrash to Live.

Now one could say they're Melodic Death Metal but you'd be missing something cuz DH is so much more than Melodic Death Metal and Thrash Metal for that matter.
