  • я хочу этот эмулятор! чтобы потом можно было поиграть в Contra! автор - молодец!

  • how can you add games ?

  • Are you using the codeplex version?

You should download vNESLight from the marketplace.

  • how to add game ,i have app on HTC Trophy, but i have just 2 games

  • Comment removed

  • microsoft, hurry the hell up and let people use emulators, get with the program apple and android allow them, jesus.

  • If I can't get some funding for this project it will stay in it's current state.

  • @mattbettcher how do you receive funding? ill seriously help out if i can.

  • SUPPORT ALL THE WAY BUD

  • Go Matt! Sucks that Microsoft turned you down... I'll be unlocking my phone and putting up an app soon, so I'll have to try this out and toy with it :)

    Any recent news on it?

  • So why can android run emulator's but Apple and Microsoft can't? That does not make sense....

  • @chymera1221 Iphones and ipod touch could...WP7 can obviously ... they are just not in the marketplace... Android just wants to get their pants sued...

  • Can I download anywhere in xap ????? !!!

  • sweet, seems like its running a tad slower then it should but fuck it, i love mario bro 3! best game ever made!! =D

  • WP7 needs more pull in the mobile market. The more restrictive MSFT is with the app marketplace, the less they are going to sell. I have had my Focus for two weeks, and I am the biggest MSFT fan boy, but these kinds of issues are forcing me to consider returning my handset and going Android. And it is Feb 7th, where is the WP7 update? They are not rolling out updates as promptly as expected. More and more points to choose Android over nursing a hobbled WP7.

  • Seems a little bit slow. Not smooth.

  • android-wtf

  • Apple removed the NES emulator from the app store as quickly as it was posted. I do not think Microsoft is being more strict here, just protecting their legal behinds from Nintendo. Anyway, I would love to see this in the marketplace.

  • @razorhawk9 the emulator itself should be legal. The main problem is getting the ROMs for it to run.

  • @mattbettcher you wouldnt have to put roms in there... just provide the Emulator and BIOS file and thats all... wait but we wouldnt know how to get the roms!... :( MAN THIS IS HARD !!

  • Amazing! Please come to xda-developers. There was a group advocating a homebrew marketplace and and apps like this are very important to get the ball rolling, and get interest on WP7 homebrew going.

  • @Vagabond757 - can you give me some details? I went to the website and wasn't sure where to post or who I could contact.

  • dude this is awesome!

  • I say YES to this!!!!!!

  • Screw WP7. Write it for the Android and Chrome OS.

  • @AggressivePrefector - why? They already have NES emulators.

  • @mattbettcher Because no one will use or buy WP7. =P

  • @AggressivePrefector WP7 is better

  • +1 !!!!!

  • I wrote an SNES emulator in C# years ago back in college. Ocasionally I'll bust it out and port it to a new platform (XNA, etc). I got it running under the WP7 emulator but performance sucks, its a pain to developer unlock WP7 phones, and there's not really a practical way to distribute it, so I don't really have any motivation to spend time working on it.

  • @digitaldud - any way I could get the source for that? I'd love to see if it's possible to somehow write a high level emulator for the SNES. And if I get the web service ROM download thing figured out it would be viable.

  • Let's do it!!!

    /vote, /vote, /vote

  • Wow, this is what we've been waiting for. It's a great start I would download this in a heartbeat. I will do whatever has to be done to get this into the marketplace...

  • +1 vote. i like this games !!!!:D

  • +1 vote

  • we're all rooting (hehe) for ya man!

I have a focus as well and seriously the only thing I miss from android are the emulators!

I've ported some basic code as well and i'm really impressed with this, are you planning on trying the ftp method aka iphone? or are you going to require the mass storage registry hack?

good luck! can't wait till we can download (or even sideload) the emulator ourselves!

  • @VLangsandtheTit - thx man! I didn't even know about the mass storage hack. Only problem with that is how will I get access to the ROM's in the app? Oh well I will check that out when I get home.

You can download the code from Codeplex and using the "XnaSharpNES" solution you can compile and side load onto your phone! Very developer heavy right now, and not finished but give me a week or two and I'll have it all working great!

  • +1 vote to let this into the marketplace!

  • dude... keep trying... 1 vote for u... Microsoft need some apps like that in order to raise number of WP sells :D

  • MICROSOFT BETTER LET THIS INTO THE MARKETPLACE

  • Comment removed

  • Great initiative! I hope Microsoft won't shoot themselves in their foot again. Wish you best luck, Matt!!!

  • dear windows, one of the main reasons i want windows phone 7 is for the gaming and the hope of MAME of the phone and roms like this so i can game on a phone with a keyboard. plz let these mods on.

  • we need this MICROSOFT!!!

  • Dear Microsoft, I have been a loyal customer since windows mobile 5.0, hopefully that holds weight, but either way....i speak for a lot of us when I say that MS needs this in order reach the top....Im not saying to make wp7 as open as android but just bend a little

  • Microsoft please allow this emulator. Good work Matt! I

  • This would definitely be a plus for the WP7 crowd. One of Windows Phone's appeal is gaming and emulators would certainly draw in the gaming community. Once they're on Windows Phone, I'm sure Xbox Live numbers would see a considerable boost!

  • Microsoft should allow this!!!

  • cool NES on WP7, microsoft need to allow this!

  • I'm already planning to buy a WP7, but if this was on there? Man, this would be the icing on the CAKE!

  • Maybe Microsoft wont insert this emulator in the Market because is lagging shit and it's impossibile play at 10 FPS?

  • @Piroteca - dude I ported this in 2 hours.

  • @mattbettcher so you should work better and longer before polemize about an illegal (bad developed) app

  • @Piroteca Hi hater

  • I definitely support the nes emulator. I miss the one I had on my Android phone. I would no doubt make a donation if I was able to get my hands on this. Its not like its going to stop anyone from ordering other games on the marketplace. MS needs to stop making stupid decisions and stop deciding on what we don't need like ringtones. They already fooled me with the Xbox live stuff. Yeah I get achievements but why isn't uno online on wp7?

  • like anyone cares about Microsoft anyway your phones suck i have a droid x and love it anyway Microsoft you should put it in your market place are keep losing to apple and android your choice

  • I will definitely buy the Motorola Olympus if they don't allow good apps.

  • This would be a serious mistake by Microsoft. I have a Samsung focus and I love it, but the one thing missing are good apps, I plan on getting another phone in a couple months and i was hoping to get a windows phone. But if Microsoft is pulling emulators from their marketplace when that is the one thing lacking on their platform. they are making stupid mistakes and people aren't going to commit when android has every emulator

  • Comment removed

  • yeah, again, i fully support this emulator getting released on wp7, id love to play some old NES games on my focus

come on microsoft, if you dont appeal to the people, who will indulge in your products

this is the beggining of the long road to the psx emulator id love to have

  • Comment removed

  • Guess what bill gates, if microsoft doesn't approve this, then ANDROID> WP7

  • Dear Microsoft:

I'll put it this way. If you allow this in the marketplace, i will buy a wm7 phone...specifically, the Dell Venue Pro.

If it'd denied, I will be forced to turn to an android alternative, most likely the Galaxy S.

    Your choice.

  • I have a Samsung Focus and I would love to have a NES Emulator run on it!

  • So excited to see this coming, if it does happen. Microsoft make it happen. This would set us on the equal playing field. If you wanna put your hat into the smartphone game then you gotta approve stuff like this. Bring it to the market and make oh so many people happy.

  • WOW! it's great! I'll def buy it if it's available on WP7. but it could be a little bit faster

  • WOW! it's great! I'll def buy it if it's available on WP7

  • Microsoft needs to allow it as they need to allow socket usage for developers.

Otherwise thair operating system will die!

  • Microsoft needs to ease up on their restrictions if they plan to go anywhere. Apple is criticized for how strict they are and by Microsoft doing the same thing they are only going backwards.

  • I SUPPORT NES ON WP7.

  • Not bad for 2 hours. I'm just not a fan of windows. I like more open

  • @durthquake - I understand. But don't worry it will be full speed once it's finished.

  • @mattbettcher Microsoft are being worse than Apple, hopefully they will cave in soon

  • @durthquake Define open with regards to this app.

  • It looks like it is running in slow motion! Android is much better! Nice try microsoft!

  • @durthquake - this was just a proof of concept. I actually had this running on an actual phone in about 2 hours.

  • Definately have my support, Windows phone needs all the useful apps it can get especially something like this. Great work matt

  • WE WANT NES on WP7...WE NEED IT!WE DEFINITELY SUPPORT THIS PROJECT!!!

  • Like everyone else, I 100% support you on this! Question, tho: will u be able to have the video remain in 4:3, and have the input buttons in the leftover space for the touch devices?

  • @TheDbG33K - I'm going to support both portrait and landscape modes. In portrait mode the controls will be at the bottom of the screen, in landscape mode the controls will be semi-transparent over the screen.

  • This definately needs to be on WP7!!

  • I would LOVE this on my phone... sad that Microsoft doesn't always understand the gravity of their choices untill they have been damaged too much by the decision.

    I'm 100% behind you Matt!

  • bro this neeeedss too happen! will be supporting u!

  • hey man, this is awesome!

i hope this gets onto the marketplace!!!!!!

the community will be backing you!

  • MS needs to allow this if they want to be competitive. Emulators are legal, illegally-obtained roms arent.

  • @r590 - once it's finished I will try to submit it to the Marketplace, but I assume it will get denied.

  • MS needs to allow this if they want to be competitive. Emulators are legal, illegally-obtained romsa rent.

  • As a Samsung Focus user, I'd love to see this on the Marketplace!

    Be cool Microsoft!

  • NES FOR WP7!!!!!!!!!

  • Damn I'm looking forward to game emulation on WP7! I'll be backing you!

  • holy shit we need this!

  • My phone and I will be very happy if this becomes available in the market.

  • I love my WP7, but I'd love it more if they allowed emulation. I'd certainly prefer it to copy and paste.

  • if Microsoft doesn't ok it, then add it to the collection of homebrew apps on the way. Soon enough they will smarten up

  • Please Microsoft...let them release it. We need more good free Games.

  • Pl let devs make emulators on WM7. Even Apple lets devs do this!

  • Awesome... :)

    release it ms

  • great work!

  • Yes. Microsoft needs to let this get released.

  • Great

  • IF they don't let emulators on marketplace it will just hurt them, and make people run to robots if you know what I mean. I really love wp7!!! I thank it is going in the right direction. They just need to do a better job letting peoples apps in to marketplace. I say let him in Microsoft ........

  • Quick question-how do the controls work on a device like the Focus or HD7 that have no keyboards?

  • @windowsphonehacker - currently I'm using a virtual joystick, but any type of controls can easily be added. Because I recorded the video from the emulator I used the keyboard as input so the mouse wouldn't be flying all over the screen.

  • Definitely a valid project, and nice work! Worst comes to worst, you can release it as a homebrew, as many phone owners already have their devices "jailbroken" (developer unlocked), but I do hope Microsoft lets your app into the Marketplace

  • there have to be an section in the emulator-app to download rom's and save them in the app storage, but it's a brilliant idea personally i'm waiting for a gba emulator because i think it is more modern than NES

  • in my opinion if microsoft doesn't want this that's fine

but I think its honestly time for a different marketplace for homebrew programs like this. The homebrew community is getting bigger and it may be time for that. It doesn't mean that such an alternative would lead to software piracy but it is still needed

  • nice one!

    MS don't be stupid...

  • Sweet ! Good luck getting MS to chnage their mind. Vote 1 emulator Apps on WP7 !

  • coolrom dot com is the place to go for emu's and roms. The phone can download the zip files but it cannot open them because there's no program to support the file - not sure if that means zip file or actual rom file.

  • This would be awesome!
