No guy he didn't win tournaments cause he made spares, he won because he struck more than anyone. Everybody was a great spare shooter back then only way you could bowl for a living.
After speaking to Marshall Holman not long ago, I came to realise how marriage can change a man. Whereas, at the time of this match he was an self-important little brat that was probably never spanked as a kid, he now is a reflective, self-deprecating, doting husband. He mocks his behavior as juvenile and foolish while making constant reference to his wonderful wife. Just goes to show how the love of a good woman can change a twerp into a really great guy.

thanks to mark roth my favorite bowler of all time besides earl the pearl. special thanks to Chris Schenkel who made the pbt so special. it will never be the same. the pbt of today is like a fiesta.. it sux.. IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME...
@keithjfro LOL, the only reason he dominated was cause he was the only player who could get his ball to tip, not cause hes the most accurate, now that everybody can get a ball to flip, Roth would probably a average league bowler
@Spliff880 I have to disagree with you re: his accuracy. He was probably one of the best spare shooters/split makers on tour, and you don't get that way by being inaccurate.
Marshall brought that up years later in an interview, and then made fun of himself about it. Something to the effect of "Gee, look how mature I was there." :)

Roth was an animal. If he had all this fancy equipment 40 years ago he would have been the best ever.

I know Roth is a legend, but are they gold shoes he's wearing?

Yes. They are Linds and were very popular among the PBA guys in the 1970's & 1980's. Also common were the silver and two-toned pink/black.
