The average person doesn't mind having a chrome finish that blinds the user, rubs off after 6 month, and that cracks when dropped.
Then there are people who fly, a lot...
I'm not sure why people call thinkpads outdated tech, I mean look at the T510, it contains the calpella platform in a true buisness note before anyone else, USB3, DDR3, and you can spec it up with almost anything. The only thing that is a little bit slow is the graphics chip on the discrete models.
Overpriced? Not really. Taking their for the business market their price range is very well situated. Even for the average customer they're priced well. What other laptop on the market has a full magnesium body with a roll cage? No one really, they're build quality and performance matches it's price. Aesthetics is just opinion but I've always loved Thinkpads design since the 90s.
That's exactly my point though, why do you NEED a magnesium body with a goddamn rollcage? Is it an offroading vehicle? Does it offer better performance? The answer is no and no. Then, their components inside the thinkpads is technology from two years back, which in computer years, is way outdated. Thinkpads are overpriced because they don't offer top-of-the line performance and have a bunch of useless crap so they can high ball you. Thinkpads are shit, period.
For the average consumer I'd agree, they'd just be taking it around the house or to a friends so that particular build quality is pointless. But for people that actually use computers, besides dicking around durability and longevity matters. I've had mine thrown around like a paperweight by people at the airport, I've had this thing slip out of my bag down a flight of stairs and it still lives. I agree for the average consumer it may not be worth it but for people like me it's worth it.
It's still unclear to me what you mean by the statement "people who actually use computers" because using a computer does not typically entail throwing it down a flight of stairs, or starting a pick up football game with it at the airport. You could get a much better laptop at a third of the price of a lenovo and still manage to "use" it.
By that statement I essentially meant professionals. Which by itself is a broad statement. But nevertheless most professionals that carry around laptops are carrying priceless data. Yes most of us backup our work but you'd be surprised at how many people don't. Also my examples weren't intentional, they're real life examples of how shit just happens sometimes. Lets use my Thinkpad as an example - Intel C2D 2.5GHZ, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 320gb 7200rpm HD, ATI Radeon 3650. Total: $1100. Find an equivalent
