I've seen a lot of highlights and players play, and can read "body language". I remember in school people would call me Reggie Bush(jokingly) because I was fast and quick but didn't like the comparison because Bush runs to look pretty and has a hard time running straight. Before I compared my style(body language) to Barry(fav all-time), but man, I don't even know this guy and I run exactly like him lol
I grew up in OKC in the 70s went to the games every week. That team with Steve Davis at QB, Joe Washington, Tinker Owens, the Selmon brothers......great, great time to grow up in Oklahoma.
Dat's my homie from PATX! Sick ain't the work...Bush couldn't carry this dudes jock,he was jes dat COLD! @ summer workouts, there would be crowds at the practice fioeld, just to see Joe...so many came for workouts,we had to platoon so all could play!
He was Jordon in cleats...if you don't kno Lil Joe ,you betta ask somebody!
Never heard of this guy -- well before my time. But this video is awesome. Good clips, well put together, appropriate music -- and informative. Thanks for the post!
First play he fields the punt at the 48 and then is backed to the 18 and then breaks 9 tackles to make his way back to the 45 for a loss of 3 yards. I must say it is the greatest run for a three yard loss I have ever seen. It is said he could run as fast sideways as he could forward. He was All-American and All-Pro.
Im From Beaumont, And I went to The Joe Washington Camp In P.A with my nephew and I really didnt know how good he was til i saw this Video. I thought he was just another Back.
I played high school ball in Norman. We got to use OU's locker room. Will never forget seeing Little Joe's silver cleats in his locker, and wanting SO badly to see if their magic would work on me. I never saw anyone as exciting. Never will.
Man, Okla had a new great TB every 2-3 years for 10 yrs, straight. Too bad they wern't all great in the NFL. Okla & Nebraska always had great TB's in the 70's and 80's. I love this footage.
P.S. Joe hurdled a Kansas player during their loss in '75 and the punt return was against USC in '73.Also during the '75 Texas game JW quick-kicked a 75 yard punt out of OU's own endzone, one of the longest in OU history, especially by a running back.
Not the greatest of Lil Joe's highlights. This is the only guy who has faked out his own shadow and he's worthy of having his own 90-minute highlight real. Most people who never saw him play won't believe it. People have been raving about that HS kid hurdling a DB, Joe W did that in college against Texas and then they made hurdling a defender illegal. I guess that rule was reversed.
His punt return vs. Mizzou is the one I'll always remember. How he didn't lose 50 yards is unreal....
I have loved ou football my whole life. My dad was showing me videos since i was a little kid, I am 25 now. I heard that at home games every time Little Joe even touched the ball that the crowd would be on there feet. They cant say that for Reggie Bush as good as he was.

I was lucky enough to be at most of those games with my dad. I was 10. There has never been another like Joe Washington. Not Barry Sanders, not Eric Dickerson, not Reggie Bush, not Earl Campbell, not Billy Sims, , not Archie Griffin not Adrian Peterson, not Hershel Walker, not Bo Jackson... all great. None had the moves that Joe did. I am not saying he was the bes tall time... just that he had the most moves.

Joe Washington...my alltime fav sooner...so many great runs in last minutes for scores to win....so clutch....Howard Cosell called his performance as a Balt Colt on a rainy night the best Monday Night performance of all time......I watch this clip almost every day.....
Hey,Joe Washington is a LEGEND in the Baltimore-Washington area. He was a COLT AND A REDSKIN (won a ring in '82); my favorite 'Skin when I first got into football. Terry Metcalf may have been the ORIGINAL scatback, but Joe Washington made it an ART. He could do it all run, catch (led the AFC in receptions once), and run back kicks and punts.
This was a RB at Oklahoma in the 70s his name was Joe Washington and if OU would have not been on TV probation he would have won the Heisman. He had very good career in the Pros as well.
he is a beast

When Joe Wash was with the Colts he was like a one man show at times. He was fantastic in a Monday night game in the late 70's.
