I would of never thought to use salmon flavored cream cheese. I always looked at it at the grocery store and thought "Ew. Gross! Who eats this?!", even though I love salmon. Ha ha! But it makes perfect sense to use it on sushi. Thanks for the idea!
I tried to "like" this, but I couldn't. Oh well, I would have if I could have, but I couldn't so I didn't.
You can use all sorts of stuff in these. I'm a vegetarian and love to make a modified California roll with tofu and avocado and cucumber. Totally refreshing.
No, Sushi is a Japanese viand consisting of cooked vinegared rice (shari) combined with other ingredients (neta). Neta and forms of sushi presentation vary, but the ingredient which all sushi have in common is shari. The most common neta is seafood.
@111076tom There are different types of rolls. Typically, this isn't the average Philly roll. A normal Philly roll, has slightly smoked still mainly raw salmon, and philly cream cheese. Stereotypically, sushi is seen as rolls. But traditional sushi, is a small rectangle of rice, and a strip like piece of raw fish on it.
I have been wanting to try making sushi forever I even bought the roller , the pickled ginger, and the nori about three months ago LOL you gave me the inspiration to just do it ! I am scared to use raw fish but I will use avocado, cucumber and maybe some sweet potato, and I think some cooked salmon cakes would taste awesome too !
is it important to always pre rinse the rice because im hearing that it depends on what type of rice you use as to whether or not you are to pre-rinse the rice
Sushi is one of my favorite indulgences, I dont have it often, because its expensive here in Chicago. Thank you for an awesome alternative, Monique!! Cant wait to try this recipe!! Thank Youuuuuu(singing:D)
I remember eating my first sushi. The Asian guy said it was supposed to be popped whole into my mouth. I obeyed. I regretted. Standing there with a rotted fishy tasting, cold icky rice ball with bits of chunky slimy center, wishing time would stop and I could pfthhooo it across the room, I had tears in my eyes as I politely chewed briefly, swallowed, and shuddered. Never again!! And I love seafood ~ but not sushi. I'm sure your recipe is the bomb for those who love it, though! Love your vids!
neat! I love sushi and the different California-like rolls. I'm not brave enough to try the raw salmon. I'll try this with that flavored cream cheese and add crab meat. I used to eat sushi rolls as a kid in Guam..they were so good..so many variations..in Guam they put SPAM in them. ;-) I think my kids will like this...they even like to eat seaweed wrapper by itself. Have you thought of buying a small rice cooker? It can save you a lot of time!
Use imitation crab meat and mayo instead of that cream cheese salmon crap lol... alot better flavor... also use avacado instead of cucumbers... so much better!!!!!!
@123sherylin That's how I make my sushi...I used canned crab meat and avocados, I dont use the cucumber but Im sure it would be just as good. I dont use the salmon cream cheese either; but I have made it with homemade tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumber and crab as well and it's DELICIOSO!!!! :-)
Could you show how you would fry it? I wanna make a Yum Yum Roll (which is avacado, shrimp, king crab, eel sauce, and spicy mayo) but the Japanese restaurant I go to deep fries it.
the knife wasn't wrong, you just forgot to wet it...

Raw meat sliced and served by itself is sashimi.

Tip for cutting the rolls: cut a slice, and wipe your knife with a wet cloth, then cut again :D so that the rice and nori won't stick to it.

Toasting the wrap over the stove brings out the flavor alot.
