I had this toy, oh wow! It sure was fun, shot hard plastic bullet shaped projectiles outlawed in later toys. I actually took the camera to school and photographed my friends, the only non-class photos of anyone then. I was 7 and my teachers were amazed when I brought in the developed small square black and white pictures.
This commercial aired on AMC's American Pop a few years ago. Around 2000 I believe, which is the only reason why I even know about this commercial. (90's baby)
Anyone have the Man from Uncle atache case? Or a photo? I carried it to 4th grade school an entire year. Today, I would be arrested and tasered in my balls by the cops. Then arrested as an international terrorist
I got one for Christmas when I was a kid. Probably the coolest toy I ever got.
I clearly remember accidentally shooting my dad in the lip with the gun. I didn't think I had cocked the gun before I put it in the case. When I pushed the button, he was hit!
I had it, and loved it. It was my favorite toy as a kid. I did take pictures with it, too. When my family moved in 1968 (I was 11) it disappeared... I think my mother took the opportunity to "disappear it", as she hated toy guns, and hated my beloved Secret Sam. Well... maybe it got left on the roof of the car... some lucky kid might have found it on the side of the road. There was another attache kit... a rip off of this... with a missile launcher in the case. What was the name of that one?
John Clark if you are reading this I will never forgive you for standing on the rifle butt of my Secret Sam and smashing it accidentally when I was 7......I got my own back years later.....I shagged your sister.....
Gooberpee i remember that chant too..."Secret Sam, where, where, Secret Sam over there"..then it would go on about the toy...never got to use the camera myself but the scope was great for looking around corners playing "hide n go seek"..lol.
i have a video of toy commercials from the 50s and 60s and this was on it. i lost the video and i wanted to find it so i could see this video. of course, the day i find this video, i also find the tape. i love 20 seconds into the video!
I'm with you, my secret brother...I knocked my end off too...it just wasn't the same either...was even better looking in the mirror than the Man from UNCLE gun...!
The Man From UNCLE Gun was cool, but somehow Secret Same was a tad cooler.
I had the Man From UNCLE kit, but I never got what I really wanted--a THRUSH rifle with infrared site and spot light! That was awesome!
Regarding Secret Sam commercials, I remember a quickie version where a chorus would chant, "Secret Sam! Where? where? Secret Sam! Here! Here! Barrel extension, rifle stock, Secret Sam!"
I snapped the fitting off the end of the main gun...rendering the front attachment worthless...growing up with the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and J. Bond, this toy was PERFECT!
OMG! I had that and it was SO LOUD...I bet the FTC would never allow that now-a-days...considering it was so close to your ear (being shoulder-mounted)...!
funny, i had a spy kit like this but it was a cheaper knock off, i think i got it from sending in cereal box tops or from a comic book, I thought I was a cool spy like in the Man From UNCLe
Had one of these.used 126 roll film, but never figured out why you'd want a periscope on a gun though.

Oh, man! I loved my Secret Sam! Unfortunately, the blush came off the rose when my kid brother broke off the barrel extension. :(
The case and camera went on to be functional for years.

Look closely at the commercial. The master spy turns out to be none other than comedy man, John Candy as a child. Am I right?
