Wow, that was an apocalyptic G minor prelude. Too bad Volodya played it so rarely in public. This one sounds tremendous, despite the poor sound, at least as great as the one officially released from Met 1981. This is probably the most listened Horowitz recording in my humble collection. It makes the numerous other versions sound positively amateurish. Overwhelming interpretation and sound.
;) indeed.....there is no pianist that i know except Glenn Gould that has such a distinct and recognizable touch...that has to be genius coupled with talent.
highly unlikely to be tuned that high - more likely to be errors in encoding. thanks for the tip - i'll check it out. one has to watch pitch of recordings online, and i have slightly wondered about this series.
i am with you - his recordings for the most part do his total art a huge disservice. one reason i am glad he was so well-recorded in his older years in the game of hide-the-recorder. :) people need to understand that he was not playing for the microphone - the sounds you get from the speakers is not horowitz!
no comment , i am dead ....

my pleasure. this set of recordings - the whole pasadena 1982 - show how he filled the space in a hall better than almost anything else out there.

@Spiritakis MAY I SAY that APOCALYTIC is perhaps an understatement! ? I was blown away.....positively speechless it has left me.........

@cubanbach
You certainly may. :)
As often as not, any words about Horowitz's artistry are pretty much like undestatements; alltogether pitiful attemtps to describe the indescribable.

so rhythmic. brilliant

his multivalenced use of rhythms is extremely underappreciated. to analyse his work would take many, many years. :)

it's amazing how sharp the piano is tuned!! Almost a semi-tone high!.. interesting
