In 1790 the marquis de lafayette sent george washington one of the keys to the Bastille prison- the west gate key. This key- a symbol of Liberty... is on display at Mt Vernon- home of george washington - in the united states

You tell me why would a general of the french army do this? Because both countries France and USA believe in LIBERTY and FREEDOM

you know what would really spark the parade? if they have a fake napoleon bonaparte leading his old and young guards down the street with their muskets and tri color uniforms....i'd be sooo happy if they did that. =D

I remember watching the parade (on television)and would love to see thewhole thing again esecially the Indian dancers in Doc Martins and all the other participants using instruments as well

they join the parade half way through the route. I was further up the champs elysees and didnt see them

Yes every year they get the place of honour in part because their step is at a slower pace than that of the armee de terre. My bf and I saw them in 2006 and they were magnificent as always! I say God bless them, there are none fiercer nor more efficient.
