If I had 1% of this man's talent I would be made for life, he is awesome! OK I may be close to 50 but talent like Godon's is worth far more than the crap around these days!
@peterlay1961 Well said. I am 43, just a few years younger than you but I agree with you that today's music (not all of it) just lacks the simpicity and pureness of the music like Gord's has. Thankyou.
I'm very blessed to have born in an era where I could hear and appreciate the brilliance of Gordon Lightfoot. I can't imagine a world without his music.
Gord's most beautiful song. "Let it go. Let it happen like it happened once before": If that's not inspiration enough to overcome unrequited love, I don't know what is.
You do good. I mean good. You are good for my saddened spirit. Your finger picking is getting better and better over the years. You have always sung well and you have concentrated on your guitar work. I think you are a great professional. Do you remember the night you co-hosted Saturday Night Live with Helen Reddy Is she really that beautiful? Never mind, I still think you are professional. We are about the same young age so I have enjoyed your performances my whole life.
The last time I saw GF was in Vegas about 8 years ago at the Orleans theater. His voice was weak (much weaker here) which is a shame. I saw him in the late 70's in a 3,000 seat theater that, to me, was one of THE best concerts I had ever been treated to. I'm hearing he will be hanging it up after 2009 - he had an aortic aneurism a few years ago and he hasn't really recovered well. His music will always live on for me! Great, great performer!
In a recent interview with Bill Flanagan, Bob Dylan cited Lightfoot as a fave songwriter. He mentioned liking "Shadows", If You Could Read my Mind", and "Sundown". I also heard Bob say "Gordon Lightfoot is one of my favourite songwriters in the world" during a Rolling Thunder Review concert, Toronto, '75, with Gord as a guest artist! And Bob recorded Gord's "Early Morning Rain" in 1970.
Gord, Bob, and Peter Paul & Mary all shared the same manager in the '60s, Albert Grossman.
Thank you very much. Here in Germany you don't hear anything about Gordon. Sometimes i feel I'm the onlyone. But now I found him again Thank you, thank you Eva
A Canadian treasure!

He's been through hell medically, and it shows. But he got through it and he's still kickin, and he can still sing, which is what counts.

What Model of C.F.Martin does Gord use does anyone know.?
v6n4m0d4 2 years ago
Gordon plays a Martin D-18 from the 1930's and a Gibson B-45-12-string. This video is obviously the Martin D-18.

Thats a full dreadnought model, D-28 or D-45, looks like,,, I play a Martin, so, I might be r ight,,, but its the big one!2
Anyway, we both enjoy his music, don't we ?
