  • Nice work! Actor Ben Chapman was a fine man, as evidenced by this interview. Actors had to go through torture wearing these horrible rubber suits and tons of makeup and prosthetics to perform their part. They did their part!

  • hey is that mermaid man?

  • @markaitjay looks just like him!!!

  • 0:32 The French poster shows the original translated title : "La créature des marais" (creature of the swamps). Later on french TV the title became "la créature du lac noir" (... of the black lake).

Because the french word "lagon" has a paradisiac meaning, "lagon noir" would have been a ridiculous title.

  • Ben Chapman played my favorite monster of all time. God bless him. Thank you.

  • i hate the army.

But if there were more people like him in it, I would probably join up.

  • he wasnt in the army he was in the marines, army sucks marines are the best Horay!

  • At 0:07, isnt it that zombie from land of the dead? You know the zombie that learns how to shoot a gun? I lIked him in that movie!

  • NO! he's the main character from the original Dawn of the Dead, "When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth."

  • The 1950's original? Or do you mean the remake?

  • The 1978 sequel in the mall. His name is Ken Foree. He also made a cameo in the remake as a preacher on TV.

  • oh right, cool

  • 1950s

  • your an diot

  • Yes of course! I am a idiot for not knowing everything about that guy.

Not like you, oh mighty youtube commenter.

  • he says it an the interview num nuts, i dont know why you said army when in the interview he cleary says us marines

    might faggot

  • I didnt say anything about any army.

I just thought that the guy in 0:07 was a zombie from land of the dead.

It seems that you misunderstod what I said.

  • Can someone help me remember a film I have been trying to remeber the name of..for 10 years !

All I remember was that it was an old American film 1990's where a bunch of kids had a raft in a lagoon and there was an old metal windmill that when it started turning the water started to erupt and a big monster started to come out....later at the end of the film authorities drain the lagoon to find a big mechanical digger of some sort....PLEASE GOD SOMEONE REMEMBER IT'S DRIVING ME BONKERS !

  • I think that might have been just one segment in the movie Creepshow. either the first movie or the second i didn't take the time to look it up. Maybe not though because I don't remember the part where they drained the lagoon.

  • Great interview! Wish i could have met him!

  • What a Gentleman. Mega horror from the fifties!!! The Creature was awesome but you always ended up feeling sorry for him

  • the creature is my favorite of all 1950's movie monsters! i would not care if this film is never remade! thanks for posting this tribute to mr. chapman. i love this movie...and never tire of hearing about it. john

  • What a sweet guy. RIP, Ben.

  • daddy!!!

  • yes?

  • i dont think so.

the user MONSTRUCHO looks like a character based on the creature of the black lagoon.

    He speaks spanish.

  • The remake will be great the director directing the film has stated that the new Gill Man will be faithful to the original but updated which i find to be very profound.

  • The best 50's monster movie I've ever seen, R.I.P Ben Chapman. They're are making a re-make, anyone think it'll be any good?

  • At this year? Man classic horror is still new.

  • I wonder if he knows how many of us grew up thinking the Creature was just the coolest monster ever? I'm glad he got a chance to feel some fan appreciation for what he did, and that he's cool enough to recognize that it was something special to have been in that film.

  • Ricou was a double for Ben? I thought Ricou was hired first. So that would make Chapman a stunt double for Ricou for the on land scenes

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Ben in Kentucky. He was nice enough to send me a comforting email when my father passed. A great man and a great actor. God bless him and his family. R.I.P.

  • Bless Ben Chapman, a truly GREAT Universal picture, gave the "monster" genre dignity, the movie was very well done with great attention to detail.

  • Where was this convention takin place?

  • Monster Bash. The convention meets every year around the last weekend in June in Pittsburgh, PA.

  • R.I.P. Mr. Chapman. You will be remembered.

  • creature from the black lagoon is the best monster movie ever made and scary movie 2 and if the remake is good well let it rock

  • My favorite monster! Ben Chapman was a class act. God bless him.

  • Thanks for posting this

  • He seems like he'd been a nice guy to meet just walking down the street or in a coffee house.

What ever happened to that type of a celebrity?

  • In Memory of Ben Chapman,Ben Chapman passed away in Hawaii on Thursday, February 21 2008

  • Ben,We who also played Rubber Suit Monsters miss our mentor so much.Ben nicknamed me BUG-BOY because I played the monster in Deadly Scavengers.RIP "Reel Gill Man " !

Yours was surely one of the top movie monster portrayals of all time.

"Before I was The Creature I was in the Marines".

many of my friends would say,' before I was a Marine....'

    t

  • I'm crazy about this movie, however everytime the creature made an entrance,it brought back my reaction to my Ex's butt.I always found this traumatic.Just listen to the music, and you'll understand!

  • Thx for posting this. I was sooo freaking scared of that creature when I was a kid. I had nightmares all that summer.

It was sort of healing to see the real person behind the costume. He seems like a really really nice guy and a real American having served in combat in Korea in 40 degrees below zero temps.

  • does anyone know where i can watch this freakin movie. i wanna see this so damn bad!!!

  • The Creature from the Black Lagoon can be found on DVD at just about any rental or retail store.
