I noticed that on your goblets you only dipped them in glaze once. i have done that before and they turn out bad because they dont have enough glaze and that glaze looked very thin. do you dip them in more glaze when they dry?
@heathersuzanneprice Goblets can be short like mine or with a longer stem ...either way . Long stemmed goblets are more prone to be knocked over. You can make how you prefer them to be I think ! SL
My beginners class is glazing tomorrow, I'm so glad to see this video first! All your videos have been tremendously helpful. I hope you teach a workshop in North Carolina some day!
Big thank you for your international sharing...a long, long overdue order for goblets & I revisited your video clips on goblets. This order is now drying and looks just fine. I love your mini workshops and look forward to your encouragement and energy...Thanks again..
another good tool for stirring glaze is a loo brush!!! (Clean one of course). It can be left in the bucket as the plastic wont rot too. Gets in all the corners - nicer use than cleaning the loo!!
If I am correct, he throws the bowl forms and then after they dry up a bit, he trims the base, slips and scores and pops on a wedge of clay and proceeds to throw the bottoms from that wedge.
I read some literature about wooden sticks leaving slivers in your glaze bucket and evenually causing a bacteria that reacts with certain glaze suspension componds, Magesium Sulfate ( Epsom salts solution ). Of course you probably go through your glaze quite quickly and don't have to worry about that.
Where do you store your glaze Simon,
it's probably cooler there? The closet where the school glazes are kept is very warm, pime incubater for bacteria.
Thanks Simon , this was helpful! Is it possible to make ANYglaze a dipping glaze? I recently aquired a new kiln and with it came a few buckets of glaze that say to brush. Can't I just add more water to make them "dipable" :) This seems so much faster and probably even covers more thoroughly than brushing...
Great! One tip I picked up you didn't mention - the piece of wire attached to the wisk to hang it on the bucket. Gonna use that as well. Thanks!! Robin

@steventoriallie no once is enough ! ..maybe your glaze was too thin to start with or your bisque was too hard ?
I have no problem with it being too thin. SL

Hey Simon, can I ask for the reasoning behind making the goblets so short?

Yes - loobrushes are great and you can find them very cheap, but when the glaze is stuck in the bottom an electric stick-mixer is excellent! /Lena

Ah, you make that look so easy. Glazing is always a challenge for me because I don't make the pieces in volume as you do.
Thanks
