i like how buddy slides back and forth instead of tremelo (pull on , off) I am really wanting a PRS instead of a strat or gibson. i want one of those cymbals with the holes in it too LOL Two Great Legends , Icons !! Love em <3
for some reason, that 305 just doesn't do it for me... don't get me wrong, i love prs guitars more than any other brand, but to go tone for tone against a good fender strat... that's suicide
buddy just doesnt look like hes really into it here..not to say hes not good hes one of my favorite blues players he just doesnt look like he's "feeling it".
@2ndDayRiffs Your kids will only be worth about 1500 each. So you could get one 305 or a Santana Signature. But you'd have to sell your house for a private stock.
I was there. PRS amps were all they were using. I think Santana was using a Dallas 100w and according to Paul it was wide open. The next day Santana had PRS ship the amp overnight to California for a concert he was going to do.
Check out Buddy at the crossroads festival. He's in his element there and scary for the other guys jammin with him. This... I don't know what this is. He's playing a different guitar, his sound sounds like shit. Must have been thrown together. That sound would distract me too.
I got chills that night I was there.....and just got them again watching this video. Unbelieveable. You guys are seeing a rare event and your totally missing the value talking about who outplayed who. Think about it! The original onstage with the prodigy......priceless!!!!!!
I don't think you can compare the artists in this situation. Buddy is clearly out of his element with the PRS. Even though the 305 shares elements with a Strat, the two are quite different beasts. At 73, playing an unfamiliar guitar, Guy is doing outstanding. Carlos has the luxury of his signature model. I've seen both performers live, many times over the last 20 years, and I still stand by my belief that Buddy puts on the best show I've ever seen. Don't miss him if you get the chance.
I am still amazed by this. Buddy Guy and Carlos Santana playing Maggot Brain together.. Eddie Hazel is probably grinning from ear to ear. Thanks for the post
Interestingly I don't know much about Buddy Guy, except his reputation, well founded!! I don't mean any disrespect to him here, but Carlos seems WAY more comfortable and together on stage here, so I note the comments about Buddy and PRS (I always thought he was a Strat man anyway - unbelievable HEART in his playing though!).
Carlos really has the touch of God in his playing though, doesn't he? Wow!
I was there as well. Im a huge Buddy Guy fan. I was blown away when I heard that he was going to be a PRS event. It was painfully obvious that he has never played a PRS before if you look at the 1st video in this series. He also said that he has had a prs for the past 35 or 40 years. I love Buddy but last time I checked prs was founded in 1985.
With all due respect, you guys need to give Buddy a break - maybe he can't hold a candle to someone like Carlos, but you should remember, Buddy was one of the guys who wrote the book on electric guitar soloing. People like Carlos picked it up and ran with it after that. Besides, Buddy is gettin' a little old for this stuff, going mano a mano on stage with Santana!!?? I think he did just great all things considered!!

That 305 is freaking awesome. Damn, I'd have to sell one of my kids to get one.

@2ndDayRiffs Yeah, I'd love one too. I think I still prefer the polka-dotted Strat, though.

Still prefer Buddy on his spotted strat though.

What an honor it would have been to see them play together. I'm reminded of Carlos' friendship with Miles Davis. . so this is such a gift to witness.

Must be a bit earlier than that, on the case for 'Shango' Carlos seems to be playing a PRS and that came out in '82.
