  • I cant believe this happened, the cop wasn't racist ! That situation would easily of been avoided if Mr.Gates had simply did not jump to a conclusion of racialism and got into the cops face. I am not white and i even know that back talking to a cop and acting crazy in front of one will get me arrested , no matter my background. For the record Obama made this situation much worse and shouldn't have gotten involve. His comment was uncalled for and inappropriate.

  • Another case of police defending police. The commissioner's comments are typical of police investigating police and then exonerating themselves. It is not credible. Bacause of our racial conditioning it is not a leap to imagine this lowly police sgt becoming enraged at this uppity n----- who is challenging his authority. White people don't like to admit it but these attitudes still exist and they are pervasive in police departments across the country.

  • Well, not only is that a despicable and cowardly trick, it also sounds like a form of entrapment. Lure someone outside so you can accost them. Isn't that something predators do? Cops already got a gun, cuffs, badge, taser, spray, vest. He can't handle a little old prof. chewing him out a bit? Gotta' keep them uppity's in line, right? This guy doesn't need to be a cop if he can't handle criticism. Lure someone outside so you can arrest them for bruising your ego. Pathetic.

  • I agree with Dr. Dyson's statement that if Crowley been a black officer who made a similar error against a famous white Harvard Professor (say for example Henry Kissinger) he would have been placed on extended assignment as a traffic cop. I really don't see why Pres.Obama saw the need to have a so-called 'beer summit'. Can all citizens of police abuse and complaint expect the same? You shd see the YT series about police being a big "street gang"

  • @shieldsff ...Obama called a "beer summit" because once again he bowed to the right wing hate machine. Conservatives know they have that "obama is an angry black man that hates all white people" card to pull anytime Obama shows a glimpse of his black side. Obama had it right when he called those cambridge assholes stupid and he should have stuck to his guns. The racists against him are going to call him a kenyan-born, whitey-hating muslim marxist anyway. Nothing will change that.

  • @knucklepunt ....pretty insidious given that this was an elderly man who was doing nothing wrong, and was simply entering his own home. Funny how conservatives who champion liberty and freedom for individuals had no problem with this abuse of authority. How would they have felt if this happened to their grandpa? Oh yeah, their grandpa aint black. thats the difference.

  • Ill explain one of the oldest Cop tricks. A person can act pretty much however they want in their own home. But when in the public view, that changes. So, when Gates insisted on insulting the Cop, the Cop says, "Cool, Ill be on the porch if you want to talk to me". Gates follows him to the porch (public view), and is warned about his disorderly behavior. Gates ignores this, and continues his behavior, and is arrested for Disorderly Conduct. NOT for breaking in. Gotcha. Clearly out played.

  • M. Gates was in his house and even if he would have said big words or bad words to the cop or told him to fuck of and get the hell out, he was in is house and there was no reason to arrest M. Gates.

The police officer is stupid and beleave that he is the law. But he was in the wrong all the way. HE ACTED STUPIDLY.

Just by saying to let the other cars comming dshows his intention of groing up the situation.

  • It was Cowley's town (his mummy and daddy bought and paid for it) and Gates was his nigger. It's that simple at least in Cowley's head with backing of his white superiors.

  • OKKK we are talking about the situation at hand.. WE ALL know cops pull over people based on race, steriotyping as u would say... but this is an example at hand where an african american man pulls the race card and it blows up in his face. I PERSONALLY get the race card pulled on me all the fuckin time, and it is bullshit.. AND FUCK ARIZONA 98% of cops in arizona appose that law and will not follow it

  • first of all fuck federal reserve guy, hes a disgrace to everyone, THis incident was shitty and obama made it shittier, Crowley had every right to make the arrest, I hate it when people pull the race card, Im glad that the people of boston of all races sided with the sgt. but nobody cares about this no more, Crowley and gates have drinks all the time, there friends,

  • what rights are you talking about? does police have ulitimate power? they arrested for entering his own house after one stupid bi..h called the cops. all they had to do was ask for an id to prove that it was professors home. of course this diserves an apology, when police makes mistakes they also should apoligise.

  • @jghgfghj what are u talking about ultimate power, They responded to a potentional B&E. Crowley asked for ID, Gates had none, He allowed him inside to get his ID off of the kitchen counter. while inside GAtes is calling crowley a racist and all sorts or RACIST names.. After Crowley is exiting Gates is continuing to call him racial slurs and such at that point, He legally has the right to place him under arrest for disorderly conduct, also 4 other officers witnessed this.

  • @alrk1306 what im saying is police do act and arrest people in terms of race, everyone knows minorities in this country gets pulled over for no reason even today. i get pulled over all the time, especially in black areas. i know many black friends of mine that gotten pulled over for nothing because they thought he was a criminal because he was black. in arizona cops can pull a latino over to check if he is illigal or not? how would do feel when a cop asks you if u are an american or not?

  • @jghgfghj @alrk1306 what im saying is police do act and arrest people in terms of race, everyone knows minorities in this country gets pulled over for no reason even today. i get pulled over all the time, especially in black areas. i know many black friends of mine that gotten pulled over for nothing because they thought he was a criminal because he was black. in arizona cops can pull a latino over to check if he is illigal or not? how would do feel when a cop asks you if u are an american or no

  • black people need to take this as a leasson that white people do not say sorry to black nigga's like gates even if the black president sides with the nigger white just don't say sorry to nigga's

  • ATHEIST are thee MOST CORRUPTED fuckers on this planet!!

  • Obama acted STUPIDLY by making a statement without knowing all the facts. and he addmited to not knowing all the facts. The facts if your white and carry a badge your a racist. That the feeling i get from reading these statements

  • Obama set up that question to be asked about this incident to give him a chance speak racialy and blame whites, so it is not allowed to arrest black people now Obamas president. their was no racial profiling going on as he was called to a house because of a breakin, gates was not driving so there was no profilling

Obama never defended americans like he did Gates when Carter called them all racists, no press conference for us?

we must be the wrong race.

  • when was the last time obama had a press conference and took questions?

  • hes training? he is a lier.. cops love a good fight...they hope the dont get cought.. for doing wrong.. the drop the charges bcuz they had no case.. if this was not brought to the news they would get away with it.. you cant be charge for this in your own house.. white or black it happens to us all.. so beaware..

  • He gets an award for acting STUPIDLY.

Officer(asshole)Crowley, meet Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr,who accepted the 2009 Sarah Josepha Hale Award Sunday at the Newport Opera House. The award has been presented annually since 1956 in recognition of a distinguished body of work in literature and letters. Gates is the first African-American writer to receive the award. Officer Crowley, your still an asshole.

  • Wow, a distinguished loudmouth race baitor. You just gave me more reasons to think Gates is mentally disturbed.

  • ATHEISTS in CONTROL and SHOULDNT in CAMBRIDGE MASS!!

Q: How can an ATHEIST be in a position of Public Servant and he/she doesnt understand what a Public Servant duties are because you have to be Spiritual in terms to understand what a Servant means!

A: ATHEISTS can't or shouldnt be in Positions where they are asked their honest opinion from the stand point of "GODLYNESS" because they don't believe in anything "GODLY" so therefore an ATHEIST is incapable of serving their duties to the best!

  • I agree. President Obama should addressed the issue more appropriately despite he and Gates being friends. But he was heated. No one is perfect and numb to emotions, especially when it involves a friends. From my P.O.V., I'm black and a tax payer whose taxes go to supporting law enforcement who don't have me in their best interest. At least Obama has the public best interest at heart. If you don't agree, we can always re-elect President Bush, Jr. Piss off the Taliban, Korea, & mid. class America

  • Ummm, and Elvis Presley? How did he die? and What killed him? They were both kings of their genre and died the same way. But I'll give you credit for making an attempt. I have a suggestion for you. Why don't try to see how much we are alike instead of trying to prove how much we are not alike. If all humans refuse to exercise a higher level of thinking and reasoning, Who them becomes the house pet (humans)? Who then becomes the dominant force of the animal kingdom (dogs, cats, monkeys)?

  • Some whites think that President Obama is stupid. They mock the president by calling him the Anointed One, Messiah, alien, etc. I don't see black people making public outcry's. Oh, talk about black people being racist. Let me hang your father, rape your mother & sister, chop off your foot, whip you 'til your flesh breaks, pull you over for being white and brutalize you for petty or no reason, shoot & kill you while unarmed, hose you down, and the list goes on. Then talk to me about racism.

  • White people do the same and they get a slap on the wrist while blacks who commit the same crime are thrown to the wolves.

  • dude2222111111, One of the definitions of the word nigger states, "a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc." Thus you fall under this title of a nigger too. Its ok to hate yourself though I see no good in that. As for not having respect for black people, that's ok too, you are not obligated to. But always remember you will die one day and black people will still exist on earth thereafter. So your lack of respect has only value to you and no one else.

  • Comment removed

  • Sergeant Crowley lured Professor Gates outside in order to arrest him "under color of law". Professor Gates was within his rights to yell at the officer within his home - that is not illegal. However, if he yelled at the officer outside, then a case could be made that he was "disturbing the peace". Crowley knew this and acted accordingly. He had to "win" the confrontation and teach Gates a lesson. This is a case of "false imprisonment". Police concoct contrived things like this all the time.

  • Crowley gets ovation from 3000 officers in California

  • THE QUESTION AT 3:30 SAYS IT ALL as does the response........the charges were dropped becase it was a lame arrest.....to put it nicely.

  • LOL...you know so little about police work. MOST times in all of these circumstances the charges are dropped. An arrest isnt the same as a conviction of a crime, only that the persons actions warranted being taken into custody AT THAT TIME. DA's cut deals, for disorderly conduct so as not to clog the courts when simply sitting in a cell and cooling off was enough to resolve the issue. Pay attention to WHY the charges were dropped and not your bias view...

  • Agree. Gates had control over how things happened.Crowley was there to do his job which does not entail being berated & abused although that's not uncommon behavior towards the police.I'm sure that they don't arrest people who are respectful & cooperative but make an exception if they're black.

  • lol yeah ok

  • Kendolldamon

It doesn't do anyone any good to pay the race card....not the 'racee', not the 'racer'.The entire country is overly black sensitive.Enough.

  • did u even read my coment? what are you even talking about lady

  • "3:30 ... lame" ... what...

Why is it that people think that the honorable Professsor Gates isn't capable of being unreasonable?A title doesn't turn people into a saint ... perhaps a martyr in this case.

Crowley made the choice to arrest Gates & the reason is because he is black?!??

    Give me a foqcing break.

  • lol why r so obsessed with me...

  • and if u actually learned ho to read you would see i never siad it being a black isse i think its an asshole cop issue...the cop was mad becauseSOME Cops have EGO;s becase they have a badge and a gun, and if a member of the public does not kiss their ass they get aggitated.and because Gates would not kiss his ass he put the 59yo crppled man who walks with a cane in handcuffs which is why the charge was dropped because it wasembarasing to the police department.

  • now please dont reply or im going to have to get the cops on you, and you see what they do to "unruly" citizens

  • BLESS YOUR HEART

  • So if what some people's comments say, as I white woman I should be afraid of a black cop?Frankly, I give our policemen alot more credit than that & that position is just a lame transparent attempt to use 'race' where it wasn't applicable.

Professor Gates looks like a little man who needs to get laid.. oops, let me rephrase that;He looks & sounded like a little weenie w/ a chip firmly planted on his shoulder in interviews after this incident. "PROFESSOR" = BFD! He acted like a brat not Crowley

  • ???Gates 1st Amendment rights were violated: Bullshit. How the hell can people warp 1st Amend. rights to accomodate this asshole 'professor'.Just because he has a title printed on his stationary doesn't mean he can't loose his cool. 1st Amend..Come on.Here's the lowdown:

    Crowley acted within his authority.

    Gates got what he deserved.

Obama foqced the dog & it can't be unfoqced & he let slip a very telling aspect of himself.Maybe he should hired strippers to go w/the beer.Dumbfoqc.

  • What he "deserved" would have been a fair trial. It would have been better for him to have all the facts out, so that all that abuse Crowley gave him would then be testimony under oath.

And the rest of us could have made popcorn, to watch Gates give that judge some of what he gave that cop. LOL!

  • The fact that "Gates though was fearful of the cops in his house.." is nonsense to me very much. Most ordinary people would feel the other way around. I believe this kind of situstion had happened million times without any offensive reactions until the Obama's era.

  • Can someone please tell me why this incident is being blown into a mountain, and yet the beating that 40 to 50 young, spoiled, black thugs leveled against an innocent Caucasian family, the Marshalls (Akron, Ohio), on July 4, somehow never made the national news?

Have we all become conditioned to accepting this kind of evil shit from blacks? Does anyone remember the Central Park Jogger? How 'bout Kris Kime? Or Donald Farrell? ... OR A MILLION OTHER MURDERED, RAPED, ASSAULTED Caucasian victims?!

  • its horrible to say this but. hispanics and blacks account for roughly 25% of the population yet 60% of crime. And they wonder why they are profiled

  • Crime follows poverty.

  • crime may follow poverty but doesn't cause it. Crime is a choice.

  • Profiling is not racist. It is a practical way to utilize data that will bare out certain truths about a group or way use it. It works! Bikers, street gangs, rapist, serial killers and on and on and on.

  • Cool! Check out the controversy! WHAT PROFESSOR GATES DOESNT WANT YOU TO HEAR (AUDIO FROM ARREST).

Listen to the verbal abuse that came out of Professor Filthy Mouth!

  • HOw do I get to that information?

  • yes! stupid

  • Let them stand in line behind the religious propaganda peddlers on the porch.

  • When the police knock on my door I treat them like a jehovah witness. I don't answer. If they have the authority to come in they don't need my permission.

  • i thank the cops like sgt crowley that put their lives on the line to serve the people and keep our place safe. thanks

  • Nobody has a problem with honest police officers, but not one that falsifies a police report. A report that is a legal document, a document that a judge can use to detemine a police sentence. That is a SERIOUS crime to make a false police report. While crowley was handcuffing Gates, someone should have handcuffed him.

  • No, sorry, the charges really aren't serious - he failed to note an insignificant exchange, one that has no reason to be on the police report in the first place. He summarized accurately enough for the purpose. Common practice in doing paperwork.

You seem to be looking for some excuse to pin accusations on this cop. But the real question is, was the cop abusive to Gates? And did this abuse happen before Gates started making racism/abuse charges?

So far, just looks bad for Gates, dude....

  • Yes, it looks really bad for Gates. Either no charge was filed or it was dismissed. Gates can sue Crowley. " Common practice in doing paperwork." Bad practice in doing paperwork. Remember for jury duty, folks. And the President has beer with this psychopath. I think the Secret Service must know something we don't, too, because they wouldn't even let Crowley in the Whitehouse. He couldn't steal anything or get loose and grab anyone else if got out of hand.

  • All Gates has proven is that affirmative action was a bad idea.

And that blacks really do have a persecution complex.

And that racial profiling sounds ominous, but when you look close, it's just some guy pretending that being asked for his ID is somehow "abuse".

You losers don't even understand that most people *like* having police, and we like our police to have enough authority to not get bullied by people like Gates, because we rely on them to protect us from antisocials like you

  • I agree that Gates over reacted. And yes many black people do have a persecution complex. However it is quite understandable as to why when you look at the racial history of this country which a lot of people on this web page have failed to do so. I also must disagree with your views on Gates bullying the police as he was really acting out of fear that he was being profiled. I respect the police in my community but that's because they actually uphold the law without thwarting civil liberties.

  • No, the US having a history does *not* excuse or justify bad behavior. Either Gates' behavior is right or it is wrong, but it is not "wrong but it's ok because there's a history".

Blacks won't have equality - or anyone's respect - til they drop this crazy idea that "we live in a place that used to be bad to blacks, therefore we can behave any way we want and it's justified"

If you can't accept that citizenship means *responsibilities* as well as *rights*, you don't deserve EITHER.

  • I'm not saying that because there is a history that it is automatically right or wrong what I was saying was that the history explains why black men have the almost natural instinct to be fearful of a white cop. Also being fearful of being profiled is not what I'd consider "bad behavior" in fact I do believe you are being extremely over critical as you make sound like he robbed a bank or joined a gang. The man was arrested in his own house on false charges.

  • You want to be an American, and have equality?

Because equality isn't just collecting benefits.

    It's accepting responsibility too.

I'm sorry about the past. But you know, I am only "sorry" in that I am an American, and America's sins are my sins. I personally, my family, had NOTHING to do with it. So ... are you an American too, or are you a *victim* of America?

If you're an American, then YOU are the one to make things better...not waitin for someone else to do so. There is no one else.

  • I am an American and I do have equality and I treat everyone respect on a basic human level. I pay my taxes and support the troops (though I may not support the purpose of war). I also support the police. However I do not unconditionally love everyone of them and every single aspect about them.

Nowhere in my previous comments did I say that because of slavery and civil rights issues that black people deserve to collect special benefits and have more rights then the rest of us

    see next comment

  • I was saying that the history of the U.S. would explain why people of color, black people in particular, are fearful of white cops which would evidently explain why Henry Louis Gates was so fearful of being profiled which would also go hand in hand to explain his behavior which was not "bad behavior" nor was it racism but behavior that was acted out of natural instinct.

My family and I had nothing to do with the past but I probably had ancestors that did, like almost every other American.

  • Using your own logic: if a white kid gets repeatedly beat up in a "black" school, are you going to take that "wider context" into account when this white kid starts verbally assaulting some black guy for no good reason, just cuz the white kid's got this 'history" with blacks, making him "incapable" of being fair or behaving reasonably?

Of course you're not going to make the same excuses.

There's no reason Gates can't behave toward us the way he expects us to behave toward him.

  • I apologize in advance if I misinterpreted your example situation.

The way I see it, the event involving Gates and the police is more of a cultural view between the black community and U.S. Law Enforcement that stretches back for decades over multiple events not just one single event. In the past and even in todays world it's a well known fact that the police have arrested, tazered, shot and killed innocent black men for little to no apparent reason

(Sorry character count see next comment)

  • Yes there are quite a few black men that really are criminals just as there are white, hispanic, and even asian men that are criminals. Yet black men in particular are always constantly singled out because of this countries history and culture. Yes I would definately agree that the blame for several of the past situations could be placed on both sides of the fence but it is quite understandable as to why Gates reacted the way he did. It may not be fair but I can assure you he is not a racist.

  • It is only "understandable" that Gates would react the way he did, if you believe that blacks are inevitably doomed by their "history".

You are suggesting blacks are never going to be able to bring to fulfilment their half of the dream, to judge men not by the color of their skin.

You do realize that "dream" was a deal that cut both ways?

Maybe you don't...you keep suggesting that somehow "history" made Gates do it. But Gates had a choice

    He chose to cry wolf

    Choices have consequences

  • Not inevitably doomed but the country's civil rights are still young and it is kind of understandable as to why there is still racial tension. Gates was never judging anybody on the color of skin but was afriad that he himself was being judged on the color of his skin. Which I don't know if you know this but it happens to a lot of black men by the police. Yes Gates had a choice and overal he was right to be fearful and press the cops on the issue of why they were about to arrest him.

  • Who says police SHOULD be nice to guys with asshole attitudes?

Trash needs to be taken out.

If blacks want to be treated well, they need to integrate with the rest of society. You can try as hard as you like to milk your grievance for as much as you *think* it is worth, but the fact is, as long as blacks refuse to integrate ("acting white"), they're not going to be accorded the trust, respect, etc. that integrated citizens get.

It's called a melting pot. Melt or get the fuck out of the pot.

  • I'm not saying cops have to be pleasent to mean spirited men, I'm simply explaining Gates behavior before people start villanize him. Also when it comes to the arrest itself, excluding the factor of race which in actuallity played a very minor roll, it is still unconstitutional because Gates 1st ammendment rights should protect whatever comments he said to Sgt. Crowley as long as they are non-threatening. Were they offensive? Yeah probably but that doesnt warrent a disorderly conduct charge.

  • I do agree with the very basic meaning of your argument how people of LOWER CLASS and LOWER CLASS values, need to be integrated with the rest of CIVILIZED SOCIETY, I just don't agree with black guys having to "Act white" to be treated like normal citizens. I don't mean to sound officious here but your prior comments really paint a mixed picture of your own moral values or at least a lack of understanding. Until you respond I'm giving you the benifit of the doubt as it could have come out wrong.

  • Gates' attitude and behaviors were offensive to mainstream Americans' values, beliefs, norms, expectations, and values.

The days when blacks would be excused for such behavior is OVER.

    Deal with it.

  • I really don't want to sound like a jerk but I can't hold back, see you would have to be ignorant of the entire situation in to find Gate's behavior so alien and offensive.

The days when anybody was excused of disorderly conduct have been over for a long time. Gates however was not excused cause he just so happens to look black but was excused because the original charge or Disorderly Conduct was unconstitutional.

  • minorities who cry 'racism'

    women who cry 'sexual assault'

people who cry 'police abuse' (or any abuse)

if it is seen, upon investigation, that they were reacting to their "history", instead of to *real abuses*

these people will be shunned, labeled, maybe even hated.

the pc card is played out

no more wrecking the reputations of innocent people...this is no longer viewed as "understandable", it is now being *correctly* identified as intolerable, community-wrecking, antisocial behavior

  • You make some good points as a lot of people do cry foul when nothing happens. What I mean is many press charges and go after their "assailants" for money or at least publicity. Gates though was fearful of the cops in his house...but that's about it. If I may make a correction you see Gates was not reacting to his history or his peoples history but acting out of natural instinct because of his peoples history. I know it might not sound like much but trust me there is a difference.

  • The reason for the anger over "identity politics" is lack of reciprocity.

We are supposed to care about blacks, Hispanics, gays, feminists, etc...

    ok, fair enough

But these 'communities' do not feel obliged to understand anyone but themselves. Their enemy is evil & can be ridiculed & dehumanized, destroyed at will.

They are always the victim, regardless of facts. They ignore others' rights, & they quite frankly attack & hurt people, & do not care.

It just can't work like that anymore.

  • In several cases I would definitely agree with you just not in this specific case. Gates had a right to be fearful, and even though many dislike what he said, Gates also retains his 1st amendment rights. The police overstepped that line.

When it comes to communities, especially impoverished ones, you're right. People do become chauvinistic about their ethnic backgrounds and culture.

I do agree that we as a nation need to grow up past that aspect race and view each other as individuals.

  • So the next time you are trying to do your job and some woman publicly accuses you of sexually assaulting her, the fact that you actually didn't assault her won't matter much, because women really do have a history of being assaulted & her supporters claim (questionably) that she was genuinely "fearful" so your career being wrecked is OK.

    I don't buy that.

I just don't buy that "fear" is what made Gates try to wreck Crowley's career like that.

Or that he is in ANY WAY justified.

  • The thing that you are excluding is the whole picture is racial tensions and sexual assault are two hugely different subjects that can really only have drawn comparisons in similes. If you want to give a good example of common ground between the 2 scenarios I guess you could say what happened to Gates was like being young attractive women going to your parked car at night where a mysterious figure is following you. Naturally you would garner fear of your surroundings as a result.

  • No, having a cop knock on your door and ask to see ID is *not* like having a stalker follow you in a garage.

And fearful people do not follow their stalkers around after the stalkers go to leave. Fearful people try to get *away* from people they are afraid of.

You do not want to believe that false accusations can hurt a person's reputation/career. That's too bad, because you're justifying someone deliberately harming another person, and yet you seem like such a nice guy.

  • The simile was that of Gate's perspective on the situation given that he is black and had to break into his own house. I honestly don't believe Crowley is racist I think he simply overstepped his line in arresting Gates over his comments.

In my second statement I was referring to the overall scope and generalization of sexual assaults which I quite sure you and I both know involves more than the typical stalker scenario. Accusations do scar but unless they are proven they don't destroy.

  • Yes, to understand the analogy, you'd have to try to put yourself in the white man's shoes.

I can see that you live in a world where it's simply not possible to do that...perhaps because in this case it would violate your belief that white guys are always perpetrators, and minorities are always victims.

Denying harm done is the #1 strategy these days. There aren't really poor people - rednecks *like* living in trailers and having no teeth. And false accusations don't really hurt anyone.

    Wow.

  • excuse me, meant "poor white people". They don't exist; all whites have so much privilege, that affirmative action never hurt Caroline Kennedy.

Denial. The liberal strategy. Pretend that the "red state nations" don't vote Democrat because people are "ignorant" (after all, why else would people with SOOOO much "privilege" live in trailers and have no teeth?)

  • Accusing harm is also the #1 strategy these days as well. Yes you could counter that by saying Gates cried foul, yet you seem certain that Crowley's career is ruined when in fact the Cambridge Police have stood by him. Many people who have actual real discussions on this dismiss the idea of Crowley being a racist, much like I did a while ago. Not too forget he had beer with the president and made primetime news. He still has a career.

First Sexual assault and now Conservative vs Liberal

    Wow.

  • I'm sorry it took me a while to reply as my account never indicated to me that you replied to my previous comment.

You make some good points but my overal perspective is that have to put that person into their own shoes even if their skin color is black, white, asian, hispanic. My beliefs are never that of "the white man is always the perpetrators, and minorities are the always the victoms." Everyone faces racial prejudice in their lifetimes and will react out of instinct just like Gates.

  • And another thing, woman who truly are sexually assaulted, in most cases, are almost always too battered (Battered woman's syndrome) and fearful (more along the lines of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) to acknowledge what happened. This is because it happens repeatedly. Now if someone made a claim against me it would have to be proven scientifically or captured on camera. The only way it could "wreck" my career is if it were true and proven.

  • You sound pretty sure of yourself. Why is that?1st Amend.does NOT give citizens the right to abuse & not cooperate w/ Police. That's a long foqcing stretch & lame attempt to excuse Gates' bad behavior.

Maybe if this poor little Professor was battered in a back alley away from any witnesses,I might consider a wrong doing. This is a classic indignant little prick trying to make a statement & cry wolf to Obama only to have Obama step in a pile of dog shit which he'll NEVER scrape off. Idiots!

  • You sound certain it was abuse on Gates part.

Forgive me but you seem a little oblivious to the situation and argument. I am quite certain of myself because...well...look it up

"To be Disorderly, within the sense of the Statute, the conduct must disturb through acts other than Speech; neither a provocative nor foul mouth transgresses the Statute" Commonwealth v. Lopiano

What kind of Police State do you live in? I hope it's not the U.S.

  • You're forgiven.

My stance is derieved from common sense & I don't have to dissect the 1st Amend. of the Law to come to it.

    1. I've been overseas many times & know how it feels to be in planes & airports for up to 22 hours in one stint. Therefore I can easily see how Gates would be grouchy. But he had the race card to play when he became indignant about the police being there doing thier job.

I've had the police in my house and it's unnerving & can get your adreline going.

  • I would be willing to accept that Gates was just tired & cranky from his plane trip...if Gates' behavior after-the-fact had been consistent with such a scenario.

What gets me is his behavior after he'd had a chance to get caught up on his sleep. He was gonna file a lawsuit and he was gonna HAVE that officer, wasn't he?

No hint whatsoever that he regrets his behavior - just more blame, more accusations.

  • Yep, after he called Otrauma & the issue was addressed on TV, what else could he do?It's like watching Court TV programs. One guy totally contradicts what the other says & the judge has to use common sense in addition w/ the law to determine who is lying.Hence, Gates got his panties in a knot, cried to Otrauma, got more publicity than expected & then he couldn't back down & admit his contribution(s) to his dilemna.Like I said, the common sense cards stack in favor of Crowley.

  • There's a right time and place for everything. The right to free speech does not give you the right to refuse to cooperate with a police investigation, in the same way that the right to go wherever you want does not give you the right to deliberately position yourself in front of a speeding emergency vehicle.

Some people are just trying a little too hard to stay the victim.

  • The theory that Gates was behaving in the most cooperative fashion doesn't make sense under the circumstances.I know I'd be irritated as hell if I just got home from a long, long trip a& had to I.D. myself in my own home.BUT, I think I could control myself well enough not to get in a policeman's face. They're hired to do a job & that's what Crowley was trying to do.I won't believe otherwise...forgive me.

  • I agree.

  • Most people like having the police around when they want the police around. But most good and competent police. Most people say they want rule of LAW, not hyper children. But they don't properly supervise the boys and girls they allow to play cops and robbers.

The problem is lots, in fact, most wonder who protects us from them and will who they protect for psychopaths and psychos like you. The Secret S wouldn't even let Crowley in the Whitehouse.

  • Crowley didn't do anything to be classed as a child.

Except to eventually get tired of telling a disorderly man to calm down, & arrest him for "disorderly conduct". Which he was certainly guilty of.

When the cops beat you to death, wake me up. Or maybe don't, since the more you talk, the less concerned I get about police brutality in this nation.

  • "Crowley didn't do anything to be classed as a child."

Yes, I should have calibrated that remark better. I apologize to children, in general. I should have said "brat."

  • at the end of the day the fact is PEOPLE DO NO HAVE TO RESPECT THE POLICE. moreover, it is the job and duty that THE POLICE MUST RESPECT THE PEOPLE. police are paid by citizens to serve and protect, not intimidate and extort. do not ever let the police push you around it is not paid thugs that do as they please. FIGHT BACK PEOPLE!!

  • On July 4th, a Caucasian family in Akron, Ohio was making their way back home after a fireworks display when suddenly 40 to 50 black youths decided to viciously assault them for being Caucasian. And so my question is, Why didn't our oh-so loving *enlightened* president speak-out against those blacks for "racially profiling" those Caucasians?

Hmm one could almost deduce that Obama hates Caucasians, which is why he made a big stink out the little Cambridge incident but didn't give a crap about...

  • Crowley acted within his authority & professionally.

    Gates got himself into trouible.

Obama foqced the dog & it can't be unfoqced no matter how many beers anyone drinks. He'll never be able to scrape this off his shoe.

Also, I think that Gates is kind of a wimpy, weiner, whiner.Nice try professor.

What a pussy....which by the way ... doesn't matter what color you are ... a pussy is a pussy.

  • Well said

  • I agree - Gates has made himself ridiculous.

He is a professional victim and I have no respect for him at all.

Besides being ludicrous, he also wanted to wreck Crowley's career.

  • I don't know much about the law,but i don't think that you can arrest anyone in anyone's home.

    If yes,OMG!

ANY POLICE OFFICER CAN ENTER YOUR HOME AND ARREST YOU?

is that lawful in this country of liberty?

  • What the hell do you think the Police do when they go on a domestic dispute call? Yep, they go in people's homes & if someone needs arresting, that's their job.

    HELLO>>>

  • gates is a racist and should be fired from Harvard..obumer showed that he was racist once again and hates this country..commenting, as he did, before knowing any details.. hows that for profiling ! obumer sat in a racist church for 20 years listening wright spew his racist crap and gates mother called white males devils..FUCK BOTH THE RACISIT BASTARDS !

  • witness the real president of the united states.

    a gun toting,greenback-fundalmentalism supporting,class antagonism defending,status quo maintaining slave class overseer...aka pig.

  • It's a crime to yell at cops, the cop was SO WRONG.he even said he was walking to the squad car, then turn back around to cuff gates.hey tuff cops, suck it up and get OFF GATES PROPERTY,no crime happened,it's gates own home, produced and showed ID

  • What I love about this video clip is the claim of innocence by the chief of police. If this arrest was righteous and justified, there would be no point in having this conference. How many disorderly conduct arrests warrant a new conference? ONly the ones that are bullshit.

  • Only the ones where our President gets involved. Because he had a news conference the arrest wasn't justified? Whered you come up with that logic?

  • I didn't say that. I'm talking abou tthe news conference clip on this Youtube posting. i could give a fuck about what Obama has to say about it.

  • You're a fuckin' idiiot. There was no crime other than that perceived by Crowley. The shame of it is, if Gates had just slammed the door int heir face, they couldn't have done shit about it. Get a reality check, if you want to live under the threat of arrest for speaking your mind then please stop commenting in a public forum as that right and the right to protest are inextricably linked. Idiots.

  • He's the idiot? Please tell me you read what you just wrote. "There was no crime other than that perceived by Crowley". Hey asshole, he's a fucking COP, his perceptions of what is/isn't a crime IS WHAT MATTERS. Are you slow or something? What don't you get? If you got caught speeding, are you gonna argue to the judge that "The only speeding that took place was perceived by the officer". You're so painfully ignorant I feel bad for you. If you don't like it, live somewhere without laws or STFU.

  • No it does not matter. Never heard of innocent until proven guilty? It is the burden of the law to prove guilt. I get it, do you? You're way of thinking is more in line with other countries and not certainly within the spirit of this country. And yes, speeding tickets are contested all the time and done so sucessfuly. I guess in your opinion, if a cop says someting, it's legal and binding. You couldn't be more wrong.

  • Balladeer: you just don't get it.

  • Now that Crowley sold everyone out for a surrender beer in the Rose Garden how does everyone feel?

  • I went to that meeting to put this issue to rest. I ask every Patriotic American to do the same. A nation divided will not endure. We must stand together, for the future of every man, woman, and child in our beloved country.

  • Sgt. Crowley lied in the report to cover his ass. That is something wrong.

  • NOTE

The first civil war was not fought over black people but the next one must be.

    Your Help is Badly Needed

  • I find it a bit disappointing to see the sgt. become a puppet to the race baiters. He should have held his ground..

  • Blah, blah, blah. Who cares?!! Don't we have bigger fish to fry?

  • President Obama is the best. Dr. Gates and Sgt. Crowley will have a great time at the White House.

America is the best country in the world.
