this is awesome. i have both the sr18 and microkorg but i haven't made anything that cool with them yet.

Hiya, I'm thinking about buying the Alesis SR18 but would like to know more about it. Did you program the drums yourself in this video or are they just loops put together? I need something that I can actually write my own drum beats beat by beat and a full 4 minute duration of different beats like you have in your video here.

yes the drum patterns are programmed. How the machine works, is it has loads of drum sounds organised into kits (or you can mix and match), so, kicks, snares, cymbals, percussion (even bass notes) etc. You go to a clear pattern, set the tempo, bars and beats in a bar, quantisation etc then hit record and tap in (using the pads to hear each drum sound) your pattern. This will then loop and you can add more. You make these patterns then can order them into songs. Hope this helps!
