What a fantastic movie... I NEVER imagined the storyline... so original... I came to this cause I adore Rolfe. Is there anything you Swedes can't do??? LIKE MUSIC TOO (VASEN).
@elskerikke Thanks! I guess I did know that Susanne Bier was a Danish director, but I forgot. I didn't know most of the actors were Danish. I'm from California...
guys this is not dogma. Susanne Bier the director has made a real dogma called: "Elsker dig for evigt" Love you for ever. Maybe the movie After the wedding has hand held camera, but is is not dogma. Bier likes hand held camera, because when don right it is brilliant!
I can't beleive it! the DP in this film was drunk or high or both. Lighting was barely done. Huge part of the movie was steadicam shot when it wasnt necesary. Some people think that steadicams will add to the "realism" of the shot. i can agree to that when its requiered not in every scene of the movie. Plus there some weird jumpcuts through out the movie that were very damaging to the story. what a shame, story is great.
I think this a clear example why Dogme 95 didnt become la nouvelle vague..filmmakers were cheating on the manifesto...plus in this case its more damaging to the great story to be shot 90 % hand held. I think that like any other "genre" when well done, it speaks for itself...not in this case. Boring jump cuts werent part of dogme. But i guess when its a crowd pleaser at the end, technicalities can be overlooked.
I Netflixed "After the Wedding" after catching another film starring Mads Mikkelsen called "Adam's Apples". These films, plus the horrific memories I have of "The Celebration" have made me interested in cinema from Denmark. In my opinion, so much more interesting that the schlock being shoveled out of Hollywood.
Ms. Bier's team craft a film with real characters, thoughtful shotmaking, mood-creating lighting, and edited for a pace that keeps an audience membes glued to the chair.
What US movies have you been watching? It's not Hollywood's fault that you make bad choices. I like foreign movies just as much as you do if not more, but I appreciate the fact that bad and good comes from everywhere. I think it is because Hollywood is so big and out there like Starbucks, that people tend to feel "short man syndrome" standing next to them and try to protect the little guy.
Some food for thought: Hollywood is voting for Obama. Appreciate them for that - if anything.
I'm from Denmark myself, and If you want choking movies, look up Lars Von Trier, the director/writer of Antichrist. His movies will change you forever:)
-And i agree with you, MOST hollywood-made films isn't realistic enought, they dont show the most intime parts of life. There's to much fiction to it..
But ofcourse, Requim for a dream is american (I was chocked when i found out)
Great Movie, masterful acting, strongly emotional. This movie along with "Reconstruction" are perfect samples of what you can find in Scandinavian cinema.I love european movies!!!
this is so real.. life is only about taking decission about what is the important thing in life.. great to find the trailer here. thanks rozzapezza..
It seems like Festen all over again. I think i'll pass.

This trailer focuses too much on the melodrama and not enough on the beauty of this film.

The film was shot under the rules of Dogme 95 brief
Two of the rules for that are natural lightning and handheld cameras only.

The movie contains added sound which not are allowed so After Wedding is not an Dogme 95-movie...
