  • hahah this kid is aweome

  • this is not john rutsey anyone with eyes can see that

  • As a flute player, and a huge rush fan, this video is so cool! I've never seen this before! Definitely amazing to watch! Where is this from?

  • ouuuuwnnnnnn *-*

  • I think I read somewhere a long time ago that "Run Willie Run" was an actual Rush original. It would have been cool if Geddy was in this scene.

  • I think this is before Lifeson moved from the Ozarks.

  • Wow this is freaky.

They look like some strange cult from the late 60's. I was expecting Charles Manson to come walking out any minute.

  • holy shit that is awesome

  • That was from the song "Huck Finn" later changed a bit and made into "Tom Sawyer" lol

  • @Zules1971 That's what I was thinking. I think it is haha

  • is that John Rutsey with the flute?

  • @Zules1971 I don't think so...the laugh sounded feminine.

  • @TGilmoreX the laugh? thats him, the chick who he laid his head on laughed

  • @Zules1971 it's a chick rofl

  • This was directed by a guy named Allan King from Canada who just passed away recently. It was released in March 1973..though probbaly done a few years earlier. It's about troubled teen from toronto who go live on a farm. Alex was chosen along with these other kids and it's just what they do to pass time in this farm. Go to Allan Kings website where he has all his documentaries as well as ones you can buy on an array of stories.

  • i think its really cool at the start of the song his voice is really low and serous then he brings it up a notch it gos really will with the beat of the song. good video

  • As someone who has followed Rush plenty from their early days from small halls and even schools to stadiums it is always a laugh to read all the stuff people post who consider themselves experts on the history of this band. Despite most of the nonesence posted I expect they will keep performing anyway. Cool band!

  • where the hell did you get this footage from

  • @OHanswerME4Hamlet20 this is a documentary from aa movie called Come on Children. Yes it is Alex and he's playing in the video. Go on Amazon or the website of the producer of this who sells these documenteries. I believe it costs around 3o dollars..to own. It was prodeuced in Canada..to my knowledge it hasn't been shown in the US. One of the girls on this video has posted on this, but has no interest in elaborating more about the video.

  • Great.

  • nothing like a good acid trip haha

  • We all start somewhere!

  • Ok so who is Alex in this vid? No one in this vid even looks like him...

  • @MajDogMeat The guitarist is Alex. :)

  • i love how at that the very end of this video we are dropped off on the side of the nj turnpike like being john malcovich. did ou see mia farrow today talking about blood diamonds? lol. it's like putting cameron diaz in a monkey cage, and saying kenya guy took over the friggin toy world he plays with so plyly in his hands. u know who lkin bout willis

  • @ePhilosopher9

well foO0Ook me gently, I figured I was the only one who thought that - why

just the other day I was sayin "Obama, you gotta git yerself sum o dat milk of magnesia honey dew from paradise, like Willy did when he ran"

  • honestly, great white northern time machine, down home goodness reminds me of pressing this button 2010 sometimes i laugh at the 2012 comedy The Office when dwight schrute's fiancee goes home to lick her cats during her powerlunch lit by tickilng pawpads, and neitherpaw is nonetheless happier in the glare!

    snarlssnugglepuss

  • CALL LOCAL ROCK FM RADIO STATIONS REQUEST Rush Song CARAVAN!!!

  • cool history

  • lifeson looks way too cool for this group. except, that girl with the cat. she looks do-able. I wonder if lifeson fucked her.

  • No lie my friend.

We went to Georges Vanier Collegiate on Don Mills Rd. north of Finch Ave. in North Willowdale, the outskirts of Toronto. We liked a girl named Janice B---well ....

He will remember her, and my bet friend Cliff if you know him.

  • Rumor has it that lead singer /flute player is Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull.

  • @katjill52301 Ya, just stopped by Toronto all the way from Britain to join in.

  • I went to high school with him, and that doesn't look like him. He had blond hair and bad acne. Rush has been together since 1967-68

Last time I saw him was in my kitchen making peanut butter sandwiches on acid. "68

  • @weykooey way to lie

  • @weykooey Have you see the DVD documentary of Rush? This guy is Alex!

  • Just to clear this up once and for all:

"I think we were pretty high when we made a lot of that record," Geddy Lee says of their epic "Caress of Steel," "and it sounds like it."

  • If Alex's parents moved to Tenesee he might have ended up in a hillbilly band.

  • @areolaman Before you start making southern jokes learn how to spell (Tennessee). :-)

  • @MisterHuskey lol... you might have been in the band with him.

  • Yeeeesh! Thank god he joined Rush!

  • hahahah u bet they were prob all baked. im surprised ged's not there....hmm i wonder why.

epic rare video. thanks for posting! it just made my day. :D

  • Sounds like it would made a good soundtrack for Gummo with that singer. Lifeson probably fired him lol.

  • TWO WEEK LATER NEAL AND GEDDY SHOW UP IN A PINTO ANDTHEIR TOURING ACROSS THE GLOBE..

  • Drugs, acoustic guitars and bunch of ugly chicks! Ah the good ole days....

  • whats the name of the movie??

  • The kid singing gets annoying after a while. But this is very cool. Who knew in those days what a great he'd become?

  • it IS from the documentary filmed in 1972 - IF you go to the wikipedia web site and look him up then check under "Television and film appearances". You WILL find, " He made his film debut as himself under his birth name in the 1972 Canadian documentary film Come on Children". Also you can find more info from a few other links. The documentary may have been filmed in early 1970 maybe 1971, and released in 72 ... MAYBE ?? SORRY ... I tried to post the links, but this site won't let me.

  • I think this is the least amount of chords Alex ever played in a tune....

  • @xyz321123 I cracked up when you wrote this, because that was exactly what I was thinking!

  • what movie is this?

  • i'm kinda thinkin' this is not a vintage clip... looks modern to me!

  • @ValentineGermaine ohhhh ITS real :)

  • @ValentineGermaine . . . it is VERY real . . . and it IS from the EARLY 70's :)

  • @therb1006 You're correct that it is real, but it's not from the early '70's....it's from the late '60's.

• @ValentineGermaine LOL!!! Just how do you figure this is a modern clip?? You obviously don't know much about Rush and you obviously know nothing about fashion!! LOL!!! This is an original from Alex Lifeson's archive from when he was a kid in the late '60's.

  • that looks nothing like Alex

  • @shaun3701 that's alex and it does look like him

  • @shaun3701 . . . it IS him in the early 70's

  • @shaun3701 LOL!!!! Did you ever consider that maybe Alex Lifeson has aged by over 40 years since the clip was taken? LOL!!

  • I understand Rush is planning to use "Run Willie Run" on their next album!

  • @bmandyd1102 where did u here that

  • Is Charlene in this video?

  • ACID.

  • I just want to get on the Road Crew when the next tour starts! If you Rush members read this stuff, I'm the guy who sent , or tried to anyways, a letter to alex & neil about becoming one of their tech's but I'll do anything you want( Sound, Lighting, etc.)?

  • This has got to be earlier then 1971. I've seen a picture of Lifeson in 1973 and he looks quite a bit different/younger in this video. I would guess this is no later then 1969.

  • transport me lyrxt from behind the waterfall at megadonland

  • where was the marijuana?

  • Those chicks are now grandmothers!

  • 1:33 is that Neil twisting one up? lol

  • Alex didn't know Neil at this point.

  • If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.

PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.

    Thanks

    Patrick Thompson

  • Great job on the recreation!

  • Yeah you see those glasses Geddy wears in that interview haha of course they're high..and alex is all quiet and shit

  • fucked up thing..... this is one catchy tune.....best sounding flute I ever heard

    peace

  • Seriously guys, these guys smoked pot in the 70's and early 80's period! Watch the the permanent waves studio interview on youtube, they are way high and that is 1980 i think.

  • @xyz321123 You are a fucking idiot with the drug comment!!

  • There just comments, if your offended you need a life. But if it makes you feel better knock yourself out. But talk is cheap..

  • alex still parties... you dont get arrested on new years eve straight!!! and he parties hard...

  • I was 2yrs old.....

    peace

  • I was an infant when this was filmed.

  • Lmao at Alex's hair!

    Whos the other two?

  • Oh my God...Imagine THIS guy being Rush's lead singer?

  • hahaha, those were the good old days

  • It's funny jams like these that escalate into more serious playing. Alex (in his younger days) probably had lots of fun doing this sort of thing, and probably realized the importance of free style jamming without all the rules! Good for him!

  • i think jamming is how they got most of the snakes and arrows album

witch is why it is so awsome

  • did any of rush ever do drugs?

cuz i dont think they did

  • Well I know that Geddy used to smoke when he was a teenager, but that's not that big of a deal. Unlike others who are taking speed, or 10 ecstasys, and heroine.

  • ha ha ha ha ha

  • You might want to check out the lyrics to A Passage To Bangkok

  • dude I guess you can believe whatever delusional things you want, but...

The natives smile and pass along

    A sample of their yield

    Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams

    Golden Acapulco nights...

isn't an ode to weed I don't know what is then. Also something like Caress of Steel doesn't happen without drugs.

  • @Gbeagle Yep...watch the "Beyond The Lighted Stage". Geddy and Alex both mention they were really high when they recorded "Caress Of Steel" ;-)

  • @Gbeagle who ever said bangkok wasnt about weed? everybody knows that

  • @Gbeagle

Terry Brown himself even illustrates that they break before the guitar solo was the sound of one of them puffing a joint.

  • @Gbeagle they admitted to the fact that it is about drugs.

  • alex admitted to doing hashish back in the day in one one of the tourbooks

  • They smoked weed/hash back in the day but were never into hard drugs. It's possible they could have tried acid/shrooms in their teens, but that is just speculation.

  • @skorziks I know your comment is nine months old, but I just have to correct you here. Psychedelics like shrooms and LSD are in no way hard drugs, they are in fact lighter drugs than weed. I know for a fact that Neil has done acid, it's in one of his books.

  • If I was Alex Lifeson I would give up my fortune to make sure nobody ever sees this clip.

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • awesome!!

  • Man..forget Geddy..he shoulda stuck with this guy!! lol..

  • Wow! What a footage!

  • This is Lifeson's most brilliant guitar playing ever!! lol

  • When I'm on the couch and they ask me, "Tell me about your childhood?", I refer them to this video! The dawning of the 1970's was a beautiful, magical, innocent time. That's LIfe, Son!

  • The chick holding the cat looks really high. LOL

  • It was the early 70's man, I wouldn't be surprised.

  • @xyz321123 Ya, perhaps, and correct me if I'm wrong..... but I think full anal would be in order!

  • lifeson joins tull

  • lol

  • what

    the fuck

    this is just great

  • Its hard to tell if that was lifeson but the playing style sounded vaguely familiar

  • it's him

  • I still have my doubts if this is really Alex..

  • Alex acknowledged in an interview that he took part in this documentary.

    So yes...that's him.

  • The thing that made me wonder is if this was pre-Rush, it would have to be in the mid to late 60's. Movie cameras WITH sound were quite expensive back then. Not something you'd expect to see kids playing around with. This film looks more like it's from the mid-late 70's.

  • Someone say's that's John Rutsy, but that sure looks like Neil Peart looking totally un-impressed on the couch?? What gives??

  • They never met Neil until he joined them in 74/75 I'm pretty sure.

  • They are so high right now

  • The guy on vocals is really trippin'.

This song is a lot easier to play than ... Broon's Bane.

  • that guy has an strange but incredible voice, waht an nice style to sing!!!

  • cotton eye joe. i thought this was squidbillies. sad. not lifeson but the dork w/the flute.

  • This is from the 1973 documentary "Come On Children"

  • The kid bouncing around and singing is John Rutsey, but he went under the name John "Hamilton" in this documentary. I'm thinking "Hamilton" as in the city in Ontario ?

  • good 1

  • Alex look's cool"He mentioned his favorite concert

was pink floyd echoes".This might have been before he saw that concert".

  • A very bad Jethro Tull rip off.

  • Was this shot at the Spawn Movie Ranch before, or after the Tate/Bianca killings?

  • lifeson ftw

  • the sound to this vid is back... eww... two notes and lsd rock lol im a great rush fan though..

  • this is beyond awful, sorry it is. I am the biggest Lifeson fan on the planet, I mean look at my videos there all Rush Guitar covers but this is LSD noise...

  • They weren't being serious here, they were just clowning.

  • the guy sitting back kind of strung out is my uncle pete, he used to hang out with alex and them. this video apparently they had taken LSD. kind of apparent lol...

but he doesn't remember being in this exact video however

  • My friends uncle is alex lifeson so its kind of cool seeing all of these videos about him.

  • that's intertesting. Ask your uncle or if you know which woman in the video is Noreen McCallum. She responded to this video long ago via an email to me. Tried to get so insight from her on this video she participated in, but didn't want to talk. I have heard the sound to this long ago and it's rather jovial.

  • Wow, I was born in 1970!

  • two questions......

how did alex lifeson find this footage

how did you find this footage and post it do you know alex or something

(actually that was three questions, but whatever)

  • damn they look so fucked up like on some acid or shrooms

  • good thing there's no sound... only 2 chords & that other guy cannot play the flute

  • would be so nice to know Alex thoughts on this video...:)

  • I've heard it in sound, not a big deal. Just listen to other artist who have sung it here on the tube. you'll get the jist of it. Noreen is the only one to respond to this video. To this day I have no idea who she is in the video or why she won't share her experience with us on you tube. I'd think she be happy to talk with Rush fans here. Go figure.

  • Probably a good thing this doesn't have sound, they all look high, and what's that? a flute!! LOL better left a mystery, I'll stick to my Tom Sawyer.

  • LoL...true that!, I'd rather see Alex as a non Drug abuser, thank you very much...lol

  • Actually Alex looks like a young David Gilmour from Pink Floyd!

  • with blonde hair.

    that´s true.

  • page 7

  • I can´t find the sound on this but I´m looking

  • how stupid can you get, NO SOUND, DUHHHHHHHHH

  • It was recorded in 70 man , probably on a super 8, or some primative recording equipment, enjoy it for what it is!

  • Without sound that only leaves the imagination?I am drawing a blank!

  • shit!! this have not sound

  • Too bad there's no audio for this vid. I would love to hear the song!

  • just shut up and take your top off, i can't believe you're saying that, these things just can't be true, why our world could use this beauty, just shut up and be ephilosopher

  • Wheres the sound?

  • I asked Noreen in an email which person she was in the video, but sadly she wouldn't tell me. I sensed she was freaked we we're talking about a video she was involved with long time ago before most of us were around.heck, I was aroun 5 or so when this was just being recorded or created. Last I heard she was in the health care industry in British Columbia.

  • That John "Hamilton" is John Rutsey under an assumed name.

  • why would you think so? have you seen the documentary?

  • name the people for me please... like kid in hat is person on guitar is kid in chair is yada yada

  • Alan Dunikowsky, Ken Gibbs, John Hamilton, Jane Harrison, Lesley Henry, Noreen McCallum, Alex Lifeson,Joanne Lye.

  • This is so cool! I've got tickets to see 'em Saturday in Saratoga, NY. It's gonna kick ass!! Best live show ever!!!

  • i've got second row pit in saratoga!! it's gonna be awesome

  • That dude in the hat must have been John Rutsey. His Diabetes must have been exhausting him a lot. R.I.P. John!

  • I just did some cutting and pasting to compare this guy to old rutsey promo shots, and if this guy isn't John, then he looks a hell of a lot like him. I compared the eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips and mouth, and jaw. It pretty much matches up, except that the promo shots of John seem to show him having slightly bigger cheeks, which gives him a slightly more sunken area below the cheeks. Of course it's a little hard to tell when these pics show slightly different expressions and angles.

  • no

  • Then you have to consider color to b&w. Another difference is that Johns hair in the promo shots was straight, while this guy seems to have more curly hair. Of course he could have either permed it or straightened it. His own mom was a beautician after all. Iused to think it wasn't him, but just a similar looking person. After an indepth comparison, I came to the conclusion that it is him most likely. Put it this way, I would bet that it was than bet against it.

  • no matter what the othert people say

  • yoour better than that padded rhueamtistic parthanoghenesis

    oh. there hath know spooon

and if there were parts, coming fron unparts at all, like junkies frohm squeaks fashions known apllause. Period pernod tea absinthe wet wet windowstangles,. stop stressing thineselves, forlorn Junger, wow. if i could have a liter and scroll butane splotches , would i ged Junger smiling ear to ear? swatcxhed

  • hey wheres the sound

  • rootmulch is right.

  • yea.... thats why the recored company keeps paying for them to keep making flops....

    Rush is Awesome.

  • Yea and thats also why they have a huge extremely loyal fan base.

Rush is the greatest band EVER!

  • Just change that to 25 years, and San Fransisco, and that describes Metallica. I think you are getting this great Canadian trio mixed up with selloutica.
