My pinkie finger just doesn't want to stay put there so I moved the first finger to the same spot only on the 1st string and played the top 4 strings instead of the middle.
hey guys, can someone please tell me SIMPLY what exactly makes a chord a 9th or 5th etc, for instance hoe could i figure out how to make a certain chord a 9th??
The 9th means the 9th note you hit if you play a Major scale (8 notes up to and including the octave) and keep going for one more step. It's the same as the 2nd note in the scale, but it's up an octave. C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C...and then D (the 2nd AND the 9th degree).
Think ONE letter past whatever Chord you're playing: C? D is the 9th. A? B is the 9th. A 9th is to an octave what 13 inches is to a ruler. An octave PLUS a note = a foot plus an inch.
@pyannaguy Seriously i have been playing guitar for about 7-8 years now and learnt quite a few cool things, but that whole thing about the 9ths and stuff has been the most useful thing EVERRR!! thank you so much <33
i think of that first chord as the 'sliding busy funk chord'.. how do you use these in a progression?? he says they can replace dom7 chords, so say I was playing e7-a7-b7, can i just replace say b7 with b13, or a7 with a9? would this be added as an embellishment towards the end of the bar?
Yeah, those "funk chords" can really be the three chords in the Blues progression you mention. When you hear hard, electric Blues from guys with a little sophistication, they work those in all the time instead of just 7th chords. They often slide down to each chord from a half-step above. It sounds more "Downtown" and nasty and slick than chords that don't get any "bigger" than 7ths.
Try just laying them in while playing rhythm behind a hip Blues player's solo-ing on a shuffle.
I need To train my fingers all over again i only know one chord and that the power chord used for old black sabbath stuff but he uses a jazz chord on some leads thats what i like to learn or more like Randy Bachman of the guess who and BTO He plays a nice jazz style I Love

A great thing that I've just discovered about this two-chord progression is that it resolves very nicely onto Eb7+...

Useful for beginners but maybe would be nicer to illustrate them in the context of a song
