Sounded like a wall of noise throughout the entire game, check out the atmosphere in the old east enclosure where everyone was standing, bring back safe standing areas!
Does anyone know if footage exists of the only other remaining untelevised old firm derby that season from New Year's Day 1986 or any other matches affected from the 1985-86 TV strike?
I was at this game. That season was a nightmare but this was one of the highlights. I can actually remember being a bit disappointed with the score as it should have been more than 3! The next 2 games at Ibrox were 4-4 and 3-2. No shortage of goals! This really does give an idea of what it's like to be at an Old Firm game from a fan's perspective.
thats what footballs all about the pride and passion in you team singing your heart out with your mates and best of all gubbing the tims !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rare stuff this was the same season as the 4-4 draw at ibrox , im pretty positive the 4-4 draw was the only highlights shown that whole miserable season .
Im a tim and was in the west enclosure that day, i cant even remember this being on the telly. But after the doing we got that day im glad i missed it!
@Upeter2 There was a TV strike, although Rangers were the better side its clear that both team got steamed in from the first whistle, were this game to be played today, there would have been at least a couple of red cards for each team. Oh for football to be a mans game again.
@MrStruth Damn right!!! im sick of all these soft men falling about at the slighest contact. I was in the broamloan rear for the 4-4 game, do you have that. And what about the glasgow cup final, i hear there is a video doing the rounds.
@Upeter2 Im sure the 4-4 game is uploaded somewhere on youtube, I do have it yes. the Glasgow cup final at Ibrox was a fantastic match, a Friday night, Ibrox was full and the atmosphere was superb, never ever seen any footage of that one sadly :(
Your videos just keep impressing me, thank you for uploading these onto youtube. I have alot of old videos that my dad had and it's good to watch them but alot of this is very rare.
@rangersforme1 Yes thiswas never shown on tv, I was fortunate to have been loaned a copy of the match which a wise Bear manged to record by smuggling his camcorder into the ground !
@MrStruth great video, the players didn't fuck about it back then.
you can even tell the difference of the atmosphere compared to the " in the crowd" mobile phone videos you get after almost every single game these days
mind you, it must have taking some doing smuggling an 80s camcorder into the ground, you could break your back carrying one of those things about.
i was a ball boy at the govan (copland road ) for this game and for two seasons.85-86 and 86-87...i remember this game as it was superb result.we took them apart.i was at the celtic end working (4-4) also which was amazing..was lucky enough to be at celtic end when all the trouble with butcher, woods an mc avennie game too....great days...great post
Lucky Mr Salmon wasn't in power then it would be a 2 week conference on that game, no doubt the U.N. would have been involved and the European Parliment
That's when football was tremendous and the tackling from both sides was ferocious to say the least ,did anyone get sent off in this match ?
This camera work is miles better than the BBC's current coverage. And I think I learned more from the commentary on this video than from all of ESPN's coverage this season. Great video!
great post, celtic fans are having a field day today with the administration, but the bears will never lie down,no surrender!!!

How was this able to get recorded ? Did who ever done it sneak in a massive TV camera ? Because they certainly didn't have mobile camera's back then.

Outstanding footage - wasn't even born when this game was played, but wish I was old enough to experience games like this
Rangers v Celtc at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon,
no live tv (or in this case, any TV at all)
stadium bouncing, no-one batting an eye-lid over what can and can't be sung or said
a proper game of football and a Rangers win to boot :)
what else could you want?

What an atmosphere! This Rangers team were among the poorest of the 80's, yet still gave the tarriers a real humping! More, please . . .
