Please learn the difference between wheel hp and crank hp. Grab the input shaft of any transmission with your hand and try to turn it. It's nearly impossible. Same with the differential and so on. The engine must first turn the transmissions, driveshaft, differentials, half-shafts and finally the wheels/tires and brakes before any power gets to the pavement so of course a factory rating of 300hp-300 ftlb measured on an engine dyno will be different from that of a chassis dyno.
if he can't drive a car with torque its normal that he don't gets the factory results and if it's not even drove in then you can't take these results for real -.-
stock engine figures r usually quoted with the engine on a test bed, out of the car with no exhausts or ancillaries attached. inside the car, it will lose some before it gets to the wheels because it takes some power to turn the flywheel/gearbox internals/driveshafts e.t.c. as zeknc says, its still a good figure compared to the loss some cars have!
26mpg on the highways probably. This is a great engine, my parents have a 2011 535i, and they drive it nicely since it is their baby, but whenever i drive it (i have a heavy foot) the mileage is always 18 - 19.
@timtim778 thats 277 rwhp...not crank hp,considering the weight of the car,and the fact it's a automatic,it probably has a 12% or better drive traine loss,so technicly,it's really around 325+ crank hp,witch isnt bad for a large luxury sedan...it's not a m3/m5,it's not race oriented!!..but at the same time i do agree a little,it could"ve,an should've had more hp!!
@coolgames14 i guess for everyday's car 277 is alright and its not merely race oriented so if its not make any noise thats even better for luxury car..... : )
@tuugfo Only and Inline 6? Not a v8? Tell that to 1200+ hp supra owners that pass state emissions and are street legal that its only a straight six. An inline 4 or 6 banger as far as street legal and high hp goes is by far better than ANY V type engine.(I'm talking forced induction of course)
2011 Volvo T6 (Twin Scroll INLINE SIX) is thumping 325lb of torque and 300HP without Direct Injection - my money bets the Volvo engine is more durable. A lot of DI engines have been destroying even the best synthetic oils due to excessive fuel dilution.
@cheneygottagun no every car manufacturers horsepower rating is to the flywheel not to the wheels. so ya the bmw prob makes around 300 to the flywheel. but by the time the power is put throught the drivetrain it loses power.
@cheneygottagun Except it won't drop more panties because BMWs stopped looking good a while back. The only remaining GOOD looking BMW is the 1 series and maaayybe the Z4 if you look at it right. As of late...BMW has just started making cars for the hell of it and REALLY gotten away from their roots. The 6 series is a GIANT pile of shit and each and every "X" crossover/SUV thing they make is absolutely awful. I wish BMW would just get back to the car company they used to be.
Don't understand why people hate on a certain car because it doesn't meet up to their expectations. Not every car was designed to attack the track lmao
@tomatoe58 If Jap cars are crap than American car are fuckin pieces of shit, O that right we aready knew that DUH! go clean your cunt I can smell it from hear.
I currently have an Audi A6 2.7t the only reason I still drive it because I love the performance, feel, all wheel drive, interior and exterior design.
I've only owned GERMAN cars... Mercedes, Audi & VW.
Only jab vehicle I ever owned was a new 08 yamaha YZF-R6.
bmw needs to get it together + I can see there cutting costs with there interiors.
@CEEPMDEE lmao the only jap car you have is a motor bike thats actually good. audi always been a good manufacture. dont really like the new BMWs so im thinking about getting that E550 later this year
@ThePhiltastic No ... YOU are the idiot here my friend. you like it so much I want to see you post a video of your BMW 535, because we all know you like it so much that your going to buy one right?
people have to understand who this car is aimed for.. its not for you, the sport oriented, insane 0-60, "lets get there yesterday" type of people. its for the 55 y o hag that wants to look stylish while buying groceries. <300hp is more than enough for that market! if your serious about speeding, get a 3 series =]
That dyno performance is almost as boring as the car itself. Surprised the guy behind the wheel didn't fall asleep. But keep testing them all InsideLine! It's good to know as much as possible!
@ChristianToker Thats 277HP at the wheels which means the 535i loses only 23HP through the drivetrain which is very very impressive. 300HP, 277WHP. WOw.
@stigger91 277hp? thats performance for a german luxury. Jeez get an Audi A6 which is 6k less than the 5 series at msrp. and the a6 has 350hp. now if we wantt o talk about performance im going with the audi.
@edo11111111 The E60 535i had about the same power as this F10, keep in mind it's 277 at the rear wheels. The F10 550i however gets a 40+ hp boost over the E60.
@adulby The Audi A6 gets that power with the V8. This 535i has a I-6. Now if you compare the V8 A6 to the BMW 550i which has the V8, it'll give you over 400. So yeah. Price wise, you could pay more to get more or you could pay less to get an over priced VW.
@stigger91 the audi a6 v6 SCrgd gets 300hp. now ill give you that 300 vs 277 can very depending on dyno testing so we could call them equal. then it comes down to which you like better. i like audi you like beemer.( i know its speleed wrong but this way makes more sense). so i hope we can agree to disagree. have a great day! (seriously im not being sarcastic. : )
@adulby I think the E60 535i made around 300hp, but I guess for this new one they were going for "refinement" and power went down a bit to the rear wheels. LOL yes only a BMW guy would bring in the VW joke. Take care buddy.
@offroader156 I have a 328i, same engine layout minus turbos, and while I don't abuse it, I sure as hell use the power and take advantage of the awesome handling :)
@philyfree Nope. 330i was the last-gen 3-series "top-line" option with a 230hp 3.0L inline six. The new generation 3-series is either the 328 or 335 with the 328 being the old 230HP 3.0L inline six and the 335i being the 3.0L twin turbo inline six...with the most recent cars using the new twin-scroll single turbo instead of twin turbo.
@philyfree I had a sneaking suspicion you were going to say that. You Europeans and your options....haha...lucky. They need to bring more turbo-diesels here too while we're on the the topic. ;)
@philyfree The line up here in Ireland is as follows. 318I 141BHP, 320I 168BHP, 325I 214BHP, 330I 268BHP, 335I 302BHP. 318D 141BHP, 320D 181BHP, 325D 201BHP, 330D 241BHP, 335D 281 BHP. M3 414BHP
@stigger91 You don't really need to push your car to the maxx in order to get the "feel" of the car. If you get a chance to drive this car, do it imo. You'll love it.

ALL CARS ARE DYNO LOWER !
BECAUSE All car manufacture measure their power by engine dyno.
THIS IS WHEELS DYNO, there is a 15% lose of power on average AT THE WHEELS.
Which means this car actually have 318HP and 325lb-ft
