  • She can play anything. I saw her in another video playing it with two hands like Stanley Jordan. She is a great player, and it is unfair to just compare her to Orianthi just because they both played with Michael Jackson. She compares to Vai, Satriani, Johnson, Malmsteen...all of em. She is great!!

  • the umpa, umpa backing track is a joke - the clean sounding guitar at the beginning is of the improvisation is nice - most of the rest is totally boring self congratulating and repetitive - sorry

  • @rolg3 So who do you consider not boring ? EC at the C/R festival was absolutely boring. He was at his best with Cream. I agree it becomes Rep--not her area of expertise. But Then again--what are you into --the dreadful shredder blues ?

  • @bluesatbirthi hate the tone of shredding, i like to name but a few: Super session w. al kooper mike bloomfield or early johnny winter , second winter his the lp before that, these performances have stood the test of time. good blues is about timbre and the space between the notes, for my ears the technical mish mash in this video is void of meaning or emotion, nothing whatsoever to be jealous of.

  • @rolg3 hey I had the pleasure of sittin' with Mike--Elvin & the rest of PBBand---I just don't get the shredder that has crept into the BLUES--although at times I hear that with JW--I'm all for articulation--nuance picking--dynamics--space--character--bottom line-feel it play it--EMOTION--the BBand was all that and more !

  • i hear you steviewguitar!

  • Muito legal... mesmo!!!

  • Good Lord.

  • great !!!

  • @10oooo01 You're an idiot. I don't need to elaborate on why.

  • Batten is brilliant.

A unique individual sound only she has and I recognize anywhere.

Every guitar has a particular sound and every guitarist has an unique voice.

I sometimes hear this track stuck inside my head. One of those player things...

  • If Jennifer was a male, it wouldn't occur to anyone to compare her to Orianthi any more than it would occur to anyone to compare Jeff Beck to the kid down your street that's in a high school cover band. If you must make comparisons, or set up fantasy head cutting contests, she holds her own with the best rockers there are. That might be why Jeff Beck and Michael Jackson hired her for their bands. Orianthi? Please.

  • @GVinsonBiz thank god some one has a brain! Orianthi, please!

  • @GVinsonBiz Right on, man! Batten is a guitar player's player...She has her own voice, unique to her experience and talent. There are millions of players with their own way of navigating scales. Comparing is a fool's choice.

  • Yeah, she is pretty awesome. Sounds like she's spent some time listening to Steve Vai. I don't even have an amp anymore, but I still play. I think I'm good enough to actually shine and carry her guitars.

you could find my latest lick on my channel - TomdeSabla

  • @TomdeSabla When people say to check out their licks, I rarely do, but in your case, I'm glad I did-you have some serious chops and cool ideas-nice going-I actually watched all 9 minutes or so of "the finisher"! (They used to call Danny Gatton "the humbler"-I wonder if that influenced your naming of the lick?) BTW, if you're going to be Jennifer's guitar polisher, I guess I'll just be left with cleaning the grime from the soles of her shoes.

  • Oh my God-this woman rocks

  • Eat your heart out Orianthi, you might be cute and you might be good but you aint Ms. Batten!!

  • Damn !! that is some ridiculously sweet blues playing!! Holy crap, i had no idea this chick was this baddass. I thought she was just some tapping gimmick player. Wow, was I wrong about that!

  • @faffytron Nice Job, welcome to the truth, Batten is Best!

  • She's rocks )...

  • see that's exactly what I like about Jen. She's not just playing "note flurries." Rather, she's being MUSICAL and getting down to "THE GOOD STUFF!"

  • I'd like to see her and orianthi hit it off and do some stuff.

  • @Funnypandalonies ha, Jen would beat the high lights out of that girls head! And then melt her face off, and thats not even considering the audience, im sure they'd Spontanesously Combust. I know i would...

  • @GuitarLordChels probably with age comes experience. lol But I still would like to see them face off or do something.

  • @Funnypandalonies oh yeah it'd be interesting for sure, i'd pay to see it, u know to say i was there and how awesome it was, even though i know who'd win, who knows maybe Ori will eventually grow out her "pretty rocker girl phase" i hope, i bet she got talent stacked floor to ceiling locked away some were. Even though Jen's got talent from Middle earth to unlimited sky. and even some of that is untapped!

  • @Funnypandalonies I've seen quite a bit of orianthi's talent. She definately has a lot of potential. She's more blues/rock then she is pop. But I think she was placed in pop because of her wide range. I don't think that was by choice. Jen on the other hand, has more experience and with that knowledge that could blow ori's mind. She did perform with MJ for a lot of years, and through that learned a lot about sound and the stage and how to handle a crowd in a performance. it'd be interesting

  • Fantastic!

  • Look at her website, shes coming to the lower mainland this month ...whoooo hooo cant wait.

  • She makes me want to marry A FEMALE GUITARIST =|

  • I've been playing guitar for 42 years and I think I am good enough to shine Jennifer's shoes and carry her luggage

  • She's ten times better than Clapton

  • @0362868 sound most of jeff beck, but she's herself as any other guitar player u probably will ever mention

  • And Eric didn't see fit to invite her to the Crossroad Festivals? WTF? She's played 2nd guitar with Jeff Beck for crying out loud. Maybe it would have sent poor little boy John Mayer crying to his mama and burn all his guitars?

  • @dennisl2008 thats for sure! i think the boys are still a little scared of her!!!

  • @GuitarLordChels

I wonder why there are only a handful of female super blues & rock solo guitarists in the world, but many super singers and pianists, and even female bass players (Jeff Beck made again the best choice with having Tal Wilkenfield in his band a few years ago and now Rhonda Smith.). I saw Jeff and Rhonda play just 10 days ago in Stuttgart. Great!

  • @dennisl2008 He didn't invite Allan Holdsworth either-I guess Allan doesn't live up to Eric's high standards-he never plays any tired old blues licks, or sings sappy songs about feeling "wonderful tonight".

  • Saw a video of Jen playing a blues song, I think in Rotterdam, and I was seriously tempted to say there's some people in this world who ain't got the blues and she's one of 'em. BUT, but but but... then I heard this one, and DAMN girl, that's the blues right thar. Ok, ok, so I changed my mind. Nice job lady. :-)

  • So many Jeff Beck-isms in there...awesome!

  • what the hell ,she's so good , its sick ,

  • I saw her at Music West in Vancouver when I volunteered there, in about 93 or 94, she was very down to earth and funny. Then there was a concert with Seymor Duncan, Jennifer Batten and Ellen Maclwaine.

  • that is the sexiest blues jam I evahh hoidd...

  • this is blues at its very best!

  • Tone.

  • Reminds me a bit of Michael Lee Firkins here

  • @adisharr i was thinking the same thing.

  • Love it!! she even got her 'beck' on in this! some real Jeff beck moments in there. even a Greg howe tapping lick!! shes great!

  • orianthi can't even touch her ... yet

  • OMG ist der Hammer O_O

    She ist great!

  • The best female guitarist I've ever seen.

  • OMG JENNIFER!!!! I LOVE UUUUUUUU!

  • Wonderful!

  • Shes the queen man... a told ya...

  • Oh my freakin god!

  • wow, she is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! so expressive!

  • imagine the tune ups and sound checks with michael jackson. they had to've been shitting their parachute pants!

  • what a freaking brilliant guitarist..fantastic wang bar technique and tons of feel and shreds like a demon..bet Jeffrey learnt a few tricks off her..in fact she is very original as some of her licks do not sound like anyone else..(maybe a bit of holdsworth in there).. behold the mighty Jennifer!!!

  • Interesting the way you phrase this Jen. Very nice and fresh blues style.

  • Ok let's get her a gig with K.D. Laing. :-DDD

  • holly crap batman, this chic rocks like jonnie winter

  • yes.... this is really good

  • Guitar Leg right there.... Shes still got it and who wouldnt want more????

  • Wow that is awesome playing. I would like to see an all female G3: Jennifer Batten,

Lita Ford, and Orianthi. Imagine those three jamming together.

  • Jennifer Batton did take the tapping tapping technique to the next level.

  • No wonder buckethead lists her as an influence. I actually thought she was a really feminine guy the first time I saw her because Ive never seen a girl near this good before.

  • I cant play a note on anything,, I am in absolute awe of people who can make music that lifts the human spirit to a place of peace and love. And it never has to stop, it can abide forever.

  • I saw her 2 nights ago in Kings Lynn and was really disappointed. She is undoubtably a great guitar player and everything that she played must have taken ages to arrange. Her guitar sounds were incredible and her technique great. It just sounded a bit like someone hitting notes at random and doing the old Steve vai talking guitar thing at times. There was a Michael Jackson tribute section that did carry me back to the days of Hank Marvin covering stuff. She is great but didnt impress on Tuesday.

  • she plays what people wanna hear :[

  • Yup. Went to her clinic in Shoreham.

  • just seen her totally fucking awesome

  • I've seen two of her clinics now....she is definitely one of the best guitarists I've seen...

  • best guitarrist ever,i have her autograph :D

  • seen jennifer last night in culdaff, Co. Donegal, what a player

  • guitar queen~

  • ... or maybe just the best guitarist, of either gender! What a STAR!

  • she is the best female guitarist i've ever seen

  • She freakin amazing and down to earth!!! :)

  • Rock On, Rock Queen!!!

  • incredible- ation-station!!

  • Holy son of an f-ing BEE-YOTCH!!!! :o

  • OMG! That is sick :P I will be able to play like that someday :)

  • @cambria3

Forget about it. I'm happy to be able to accompany this blues on the rhythm guitar, which is far easier. It's Emajor and the usual blues scheme.

  • HUWHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!?!?!?

3:35 - OMG, that made me LoL.

That was an INSANE lick! I had to see that again a few times. XD

  • GIRLS KICK ASS 2!!!!

  • pure taste and badassness

  • Yea play the blues girl...

  • The Jeff Beck influence is very strong!

  • Phenominal! Saw her with Jeff Beck in 2002 and have got the opportunity to see her in the new year. Get in!

  • This is fucking awesome..enjoyable mix of soul, technique, innovation and passion

  • the wife from steve vai...

  • Darn! She is such an accomplished guitarist. Amazing!

  • just checkd another post. pitch shift for sure but shes using it very tastefully

  • bit sus but great, seems like shes using one of those floating trems that keep chords tuned while manipulating or a pitch shifting pedal. still wicked feel tho!!!!

  • Vive les femme et la musique ! Merci Jenni!

  • she is amezing

  • thank je kindly rknrne, and martian fireflowers for Ms. Batten- ooh!

  • sim TANKS

  • She is something else...I wish she could teach me some hot stuff some hot day.

  • The first, and by far the greatest female guitar hero(ine)!

  • Amazing ..

  • beautiful feel and great tone

  • It's because they're usually not very good. Sad, but true.

  • well, yes and no. girls grow up being very skeptical about their abilities, whereas boys rule the world from day one ... they think! And to be honest, 98% of guitarist ought to shut up more and stop recycling their heroes licks ... and start LISTENING!

  • @heyawhaw I think there is a combination of gender bias, along with a lack of women pursuing their interest in the instrument. In the past, girls were not encouraged in that direction, so there aren't as many girls who pursued guitar seriously. Those that did are not taken seriously, and are ignored by their (often less skilled) male counterparts, even though they may have been deserving of recognition.

I do think that the doors have been opened a bit, and that will change in the future.

  • Wow!!!

  • Great stuff!

  • wow! :D

    I-D-O-L

  • That is so awesome she makes me want to get better at guitar playing and kick every guy ass who says otherwise.

  • Yeah

  • Yeah!!! that's the spirit! You can do it? It's worth a try

    8D

  • @GuitarraChica No se que amigos tienes, pero no ay nada mas sexy que una mujer con guitarra y mas cuando toca bien

  • Whenever I see Jenny she has added something new to her skillful phrasing. Impresses, really.

She could have remained next to the shreders of the 80, but she is a real researcher of the instrument.

    For my, the GEATEST !!!

  • she is up there with the best, really like her...

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!

  • It´s not easy such a long solo not to get boring, but she did it really well - it´s only fun to listen to here...but i´m missing some cool bendings with nice finger vibrato. She uses the tremolo bar too often in my opinion.

  • thanks man ,she's the whole deal isnt she ,

  • Oh my...I'll always love you Jennifer

  • Can someone please post the HQ version of this...DAMN...she kicks ass bigtime!

  • wysiwyg...............

It was shot with my 3meg camera, I had to use software to rotate video clockwise which added about 10 pounds to Jennifers profile (sorry about that JB)

It was a Digitech clinic and I wish I had brought more batteries for the camera which died right at the end of the clip.

Thanks for all the positive comments to such a great player and a very approachable and genuine person.

    She Rocked .

  • wow shes amazing....she reminds me a bit of Vai...for some reason...

  • Oh yeah, how good this is !

  • Really, REALLY good!!!! :)

  • incredible ! wonderfuly perfect playin'

  • this tells you: speed isn't everything!!

  • True enough!

...she also plays Flight of the Bumblebee. :)

  • Damn!! Chick has chops!!

  • me he enamorado

  • Damn she's good. Lots of cool whammy stuff. I wonder what amp she's using here.

  • WOW! Pay attention all YouTube shred bores - This is how it's done.

  • Sweet.

  • Jennifer Batten, i best remember her as the guitar queen, she is Michael Jackson's lead guitarist in his tour band

  • Fabulous! Unlike male shredders, her solo actually breathes. I mean, there's a nice blend of melodic stuff and chops...and the groove never suffers. One word: maturity.

  • Incredible!!! A genius!!!

  • A bonified first class fret tickler!!! Great work!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • l'unica donne che abbia mai sentito avere tocco groove e personalità su una chitarra ! gradissima.

  • anche le Crucify Barbara hanno del groove ti consiglio di ascoltarle

  • Excellent i just love this vid!

  • jennys got some great lessons on tapping, shes got style, skills but still isnt well known

  • WoW!!!THAT GIRL CAN PLAY!! i love her blues licks and she rocks out like the best of them!

  • Wow she played some nice blues, and the tapping and sliding were amazing!!! wow, watch out Slash, Eddie, Buckethead and so on.. lol

  • She is one of the guitarist that influenced Buckethead playing. So no doubt she is amazing.

  • She did? holy shit!! I didn't know that!

  • at 3.34 she does an amazing tapping wow

  • i love her crazy slurred....super smooth phrasing and style....and yeah she is as good as anybody - period
