Gut Stomp was published - circa 1945 if I recall, but it might have been earlier - 1939 or so. I have a photocopy of the sheet music somewhere.

I would assume this dates from the teens. This is probably what J.P played at drakes dancing "school" when the dancers wanted something funky.

Listening to this again, the B strain is very similar to the last strain of Willie the Smith's 'rippling water" he recorded in 1938.

According to "Rags and Ragtime", "Gut Stomp" was actually co-composed with Willie "the Lion" Smith!
