What are the power specs on the motor and the amp hourage on the batteries(i assume they are either 6 or 12 volts a peice)? How long can this mower go before needing to be recharged.
I bet you could sell these modified units for good money if the word got out that these can do the job reliably.

How did you attach the gear to the reel? It looks like you bolted it or did you slot it with a key pin? Way cool, I have to make one. I love the way reel mowers cut, seems safer than a rotary mower.
The noise you are referring to is just the medal blades scraping up against each other. It made that same noise when it was original maybe a little louder since that gearing made the blades spin up faster. But the faster spinning cutter made it cut way better. I bet if someone knew how to properly sharpen the blades and align it properly, it would really cut back on the noise that it makes.
that sounds pretty cool. I use my electric mower all the time. I am now working on a converting a standard mower to be electric. I have the mower deck that is self propelled. I just need to find a good motor candidate for it.
cool project! I have always used an electric mower (black and decker) while I was a teenager, cutting my parents' lawn. I currently have an antique Huffy electric mower that my neighbor says is from the 1950s. To look at it, I believe the age. It runs good to this day, and I cut shoulder high brush with it on rural land here in SC! Electrics rule!
I love these homemade projects! I'm converting a riding lawnmower to electric. I may even have given the electric bug to my stepfather who is a retired electronics whiz. He has already built at least one speed controller from scratch, and wants to do the wiring for my mower!
Thats awesome:)

You could always put some machine oil in the squeaky parts of the electric mower, I think that's what's making all the nose
