The entire point of this not being as tight as you'd expect is because Beck plays very free form live. It feels like you're just watching them jam which is unusual and refreshing. They aren't off key or too bad with rhythm so why complain? Audio slave is a good band who actually fucks up live.

I assume the beat is there for a reason maybe to set a pace at the start of the song or maybe it plays at the start so that when the sound of a real drumkit comes in on the chorus, it makes a tasty impact live.
