good point. the gov shouldn't be involved in marriage at all. and I don't see why other gay people want to take part in a religious ceremony when you don't even believe in that belief. if the gov wasn't involved and there were no tax break would it still be so important? reject what people tell you is right and do your own thing. marriage is a part of religion. why be a part of it?
Why is there a gay marriage debate on here? The whole thing is ridiculous. Ban straight AND gay marriage. Marriage is a religious ceremony, why is our secular govt involved in the first place? Its like giving a tax break for people who are baptized, the whole thing is nuts and unconstitutional
@bosshog7169 Technically, you can be married by a justice of the peace and have a secular wedding. I think now, it's a lot more than just religion. Like Christmas, it's something enjoyed by the religious and the nonreligious alike.
That's what I'm saying we should get rid of, the govt involvement. Why is the govt marrying people? I'm not saying everybody can't enjoy it, I'm saying don't involve the justice of the peace. He's got better things to do.
Separation of church and state. Is there any reason why the govt SHOULD be involved? If you want to give people a tax break for having sex, that's a separate issue.
Then its not really marriage as it was invented. If you're talking about two people who sign a govt contract that gives them govt benefits, I guess we can call that marriage these days. That's the kind I want to get rid of. Marriage should be between humans, not humans and their govt.
As someone who was raised Mormon I would say Mormons are more "pleasant" than actually nice. They won't spit in your face but they'll work to take away your right to marry.
@MaryJesusJoseph ......yes i have been paying attention for the past 4 years, but im asking why you think that takes away your right to marry? I know a TON of mormon couples that are happily married within the church....sure they're not gay or anything but they ARE married.....doesnt seem like the church works to take away people's right to marry.
@023Lexi Gay people in California had the right to marry, Prop 8 took that away and it's pretty well documented that the Mormon Church did a lot of work and raised a lot of money--to the point of violating their non-profit status to pass it. I have several friends who told me how members of the Bishopric of their wards came to their homes and told them how much they should donate. If you don't know this you're truly naive or in denial.
@MaryJesusJoseph look....the church is just doing what they believe is right. They are great people, they believe that marriage is a sacred thing that should be between a man and a woman. Everyone has the right to do what they think is correct. honestly....there's no need to discuss this anymore because i just asked why you said they took people's right to marry. I just happened to read your comment and wondered what you were thinking. thats all.
@023Lexi The church worked to take away the human rights of gay and lesbian people. That's not right and they deserve the criticism they get. They're not great people, they worked against human rights. That's all.
@MaryJesusJoseph ....i have my opinions and you have yours...i was just asking a simple question. and the people of the church ARE great people.....but im not going to argue this anymore with you because there's just no point. i respect your opinion, and i have told you MY opinion and expect the same from you. its just respect im asking for. i respect you.....now i ask you to return that respect like an educated human being. have a nice day.
@023Lexi The difference is, I don't try to vote away your rights. Maybe you don't care about the rights of others and you thing human rights should be left up to popular opinion (I wonder how that would work in regard to Mormon's religious rights--some of those aren't so popular). But even if a law came up banning Mormon marriage I would vote against it--because I believe in human rights--obviously your opinion is that some people shouldn't have equal rights. Have a nice life.
You could not be more wrong. It was the blacks that past prop 8. Over 85 percent of them voted for it. I am so sorry that you left the church. Good luck to you and God Bless. You are always welcome back.
@MaryJesusJoseph Mormons don't care if gay people get married, they just don't want the government involved and imposing its will on people who may have differing religious/political views. I say take the government out of marriage completely. We should just abolish marriage as a power of the State and let people do what they want.
Matt Stone, Trey Parker and Robert Lopez just sitting and talking about Mormons...
i would pay to have that conversation !

@bosshog7169 Why? You have this model, this plan, but there's no reason to use it! Or not that you've mentioned anyway. So, why?

@bosshog7169 Don't ban it. Just remove any government involvement.

that is so true 0.54 - some are so optimistic they look like they're about to burst into song. Rannell portrays it well
