If the service area is predominantly Verizon, you will have a hard time keeping signal. I currently live in an area with good AT&T coverage, so it works wonderfully for me now. I have one other complaint with the battery cover coming off too easily, but as long as I don't drop it on the floor too much, that isn't a problem ;)
I have this phone. The reason it shuts off completely because there is a problem with the battery compartment being poorly designed, causing the battery to not have good connection. It's easily corrected by putting a small piece of paper or cardboard at one end of the battery. This feature alone has been a major source of frustration for me, but otherwise, it's a very good phone, as long as you are in an area with strong AT&T signal.
This phone is terrible!!!.. Constantly turns off every 5-10 seconds with no adjustment available to make it say ON if you want it to... Every time the light goes out, it LOCKS the phone out. So, every 5-10 seconds I was having to "Unlock" the phone...HATED IT!.. Sent it back and got my money.
@VAIO294 In the settings menu there was an option for you to change it. The phone is very outdated anyway so its probably good you're getting a new. May I suggest the LG Optimus Q? I did a review of it. Check it out if you want.

Don't take my word for it. Go into your email, compose a new, short message to your full ten digit number @txt.att.net if your phone's model ends in g. If the phone's model ends in c, send it to the full ten digit phone number @vtext.com Phones ending in a g are GSM, and can therefor not run on Verizon's CDMA network!
Major correction! Any of StraightTalk's phones with a model number ending in "g" use the AT&T, (not Verizon) network! StraightTalk now has phones using all the major carriers, (including their latest 2 Android phones) which use Sprint. Only phones with model numbers ending in "C" use Verizon!
This was my previous phone. I just ordered the optimus Q but let me tell you, these phones are tough. I had this phone for about 5 months and i have dropped it numerous times, more than once in many puddles of water. I also dropped in in slushy snowy water while running. Very tough and durable phone.
@meaty459 Do you know that the Optimus runs on the Sprint Network? This is True. Nothing but Sprint. I write this as a Warning, Sprint has LESS Towers than any other Provider. Hopefully you are near a Sprint Tower and all is well. ALL ANDROID PHONES from Straight Talk AND Net 10, run on Sprint, not Verizon. MANY have Trouble with Reception. Let us know.

@hotheadedjoelhaha i got the optimus q from straight talk last night. I would like to start by saying the coverage in my area is wonderfull. i have full bars all around town and the wifi speed on the internet is terrific. i can load youtube vids faster on my phone then i can my computer. The apps and everything are great, only 2 complaints; battery life (normal for all androids) and the phone freezes up if you have too many apps running. Other then that real smoothe phone =)
@hotheadedjoelhaha Yeah, I'd gotten the Optimus Q after reading other people saying that they had signal even though they weren't in the android coverage area. It seriously doesn't pick up any service from Verizon at all. So if you look up Sprint's coverage map and it shows little or no coverage, don't buy the phone. It's a pretty amazing phone though. I'm jealous to those who do have Sprint towers. :(

The phone you gave to your Brother is the one that runs on Verizon. Your New phone Runs on AT&T. Remember this-if your phone model number ends in a 'C', that means it's a cdma phone, Verizon. If your model number ends in a 'G', it runs on the gsm Network. Which IS AT&T(or t-mobile). Yours is AT&T. Not bad coverage at all, But, also not Verizon which is the Largest(most towers)therefore the Best. Sprint, new Android Straight Talk phones run on That, the Worst. Worst coverage of ANY. Good Vid.

Not bad. I used to have tracfone, back when theyre phones weren't really all that great. I switched to verizon and am now looking into tracfones or straight talk again 3 years later! Verizon is raping me with the phone bill, and If i can pay $45 instead of $150 per month for a phone...Ill be doing that.

Decent review. Some bits are a bit dark though. I couldn't see what type of connection the charger was and wanted to see if it's proprietary. My old phone is a mini-usb and I'm thinking of buying this one to replace it as this one is now a TRIPLE minutes phone on the Tracfone network!
I also read it takes up to a 16GB microsd, but sometimes that's a mistake on devices and they CAN read up to 32GB.
@CliftonPhotographer I have a 16gb micro in there right now. I don't think it can do 32. If you have more than 16gb of stuff on a phone like this you deserve a metal!

Just to let you know that phone is GSM, so it actually runs on AT&T's network. The CDMA phones run on Verizon which is used mostly in rural areas like Montana.

I just bought this phone from Net10 through their website. It's $79 at Sears with Net10 but I bought a refurbished one through the Net10 website for $25 with a $25 monthly plan card with 750 minutes. I basically got the phone for free. I don't use it that much, only for emergencies or when traveling so I'm going to downgrade the monthly to $15/month 200 min plan.

All these features, unlimited everything, are nice, but if you can't send pictures, I will look for another model. I will stay with Straight Talk though because I will never sign a cell phone contract again.
i just got this cell & im kind of upset cuz whats the use in being able to take videos if u cant even send them. i have a video thats like one minute and 20 secs and i cant send it via email or message. cuz it says it has to be less than 295kb. thats stupid. another thing is that it dont have a regular head phone jack. i knew this already b4 i got it but i still need 2 get the adapter which i cant find. also i cant put my own ringtones cuz they r long. i thought this would b a better phone :(

Based on your excellent review of this phone, I would have to say I’m leaning towards the T401G. I watched a review on the R355C and it looks like its QWERTY keyboard might be a bit too miniature for my tastes—a big problem while trying to text someone.

this phone does not run on the verizon network. this particular phone runs on the At&t network. how you can specify this is by the GSM on the box. if it has GSM which means it has a SIMS card which means its AT&T. if does not have GSM on the box it does not have a SIMS card which means it runs off the verizon network.

Also, the display is very distorted at even the slightest angle. If you're not looking at it dead-on, it's display is very distorted.
This phone is not even worth $10.00..They're trying to give them away on Amazon.com for under $18.00.

@hotheadedjoelhaha Yeah, I'd gotten the Optimus Q after reading other people saying that they had signal even though they weren't in the android coverage area. It seriously doesn't pick up any service from Verizon at all. So if you look up Sprint's coverage map and it shows little or no coverage, don't buy the phone. It's a pretty amazing phone though. I'm jealous to those who do have Sprint towers. :(

The phone you gave to your Brother is the one that runs on Verizon. Your New phone Runs on AT&T. Remember this-if your phone model number ends in a 'C', that means it's a cdma phone, Verizon. If your model number ends in a 'G', it runs on the gsm Network. Which IS AT&T(or t-mobile). Yours is AT&T. Not bad coverage at all, But, also not Verizon which is the Largest(most towers)therefore the Best. Sprint, new Android Straight Talk phones run on That, the Worst. Worst coverage of ANY. Good Vid.

In other words Worse. Question-Are you Sure this Phone is on Verizon? All Phone model numbers ending in 'g' are GSM phones(ATT & TMOBILE). If your model ends in a 'c' It is a CDMA, or Verizon phone. Verizon phones do not have or need SIM cards.

Not bad. I used to have tracfone, back when theyre phones weren't really all that great. I switched to verizon and am now looking into tracfones or straight talk again 3 years later! Verizon is raping me with the phone bill, and If i can pay $45 instead of $150 per month for a phone...Ill be doing that.

Decent review. Some bits are a bit dark though. I couldn't see what type of connection the charger was and wanted to see if it's proprietary. My old phone is a mini-usb and I'm thinking of buying this one to replace it as this one is now a TRIPLE minutes phone on the Tracfone network!
I also read it takes up to a 16GB microsd, but sometimes that's a mistake on devices and they CAN read up to 32GB.

Just to let you know that phone is GSM, so it actually runs on AT&T's network. The CDMA phones run on Verizon which is used mostly in rural areas like Montana.

I just bought this phone from Net10 through their website. It's $79 at Sears with Net10 but I bought a refurbished one through the Net10 website for $25 with a $25 monthly plan card with 750 minutes. I basically got the phone for free. I don't use it that much, only for emergencies or when traveling so I'm going to downgrade the monthly to $15/month 200 min plan.

Try to turn your phone off and back on. Then check if your phone is able to make and receive calls. Also, check your browser if it works too. Thanks." Those numbers are one long code btw

I really want to upgrade to a phone with a QWERTY keyboard and I’m currently debating whether I should get the Samsung T401G or the Samsung R355C phone. Based on your excellent review of this phone, I would have to say I’m leaning towards the T401G. I watched a review on the R355C and it looks like its QWERTY keyboard might be a bit too miniature for my tastes—a big problem while trying to text someone.

this phone does not run on the verizon network. this particular phone runs on the At&t network. how you can specify this is by the GSM on the box. if it has GSM which means it has a SIMS card which means its AT&T. if does not have GSM on the box it does not have a SIMS card which means it runs off the verizon network.
