I am writing Julie London's biography. Thank You posting this rare gem. Wish they would release her special on dvd. Love you forever for posting this!
the cover of Julie's album "Feeling Good" & "Send For Me" were taken from photos shot on set of this performance. Oh yes, & "Nice Girls Don't Stay For Breakfast"
I detect a Julie London revival going on, and it seems to be primarily British. Am I correct? LONG time overdue. When it came to jazz ballads and smoky torch songs, Julie was unbeatable.
@BegoneJonah - a Julie revival has been going going on ever since "Ultra Lounge" in the mid-late '90s. Capitol records knew what they were doing, as it revived many old time greats.
This is as interesting a cultural time capsule as it is a musical performance. Julie's hair, clothing, even her manner of moving and the facial expressions portray what had to be the frustrations of performers whose style and form was firmly based in the 30's and 40's as they witnessed their art and style becoming irelevant to younger demographics raised on rock music. Both forces seemed irreconcilable to all but a few of their generation (like Sinatra and Peggy Lee for instance)
THIS WOMAN'S AS BEAUTIFUL AS HER VOICE ! What an effortless and distinct stlye - one of the best ! Was this on American T V - perhaps from England ? thank you !
