I respect your opinion, i guess it depends... they both have their quality, what i really love is the bass line at 1:43 and how the ondes martenot follows... nice. They should have done an "all-band" version of this i think, like the i will (los angeles version), i think it would be a nice b-side. i also wish to hear the original version of videotape in record, but that is too much to ask. I hope the bonnaroo dvd come out eventually
Anyone care about the music here or is the dancing the only important part? Maybe someone could say something about the lyrics, I mean a Tardis is a pretty cool concept. Anyone get what he's trying to say? Thanks for listening.
I think the lyrics express the heart of a man who cannot give up his love for someone. In my imagination, the man is elite, and the woman who he love is also. And they had known each other from childhood.
But the romance will not be successful, may be forever.
I think I remember reading an interview where Thom said that he wrote this song during the recording of OK Computer. When he coulden't sleep, he posted on the internet a lot and chatted with people. So in that regard I think it's about being obsessed with this non-physical world (the internet) and the idea of connecting with other people. It sounds weird, but I think it fits in nicely with the overarching theme of In Rainbows. Great performance also.
well yorke really likes REM he sings with him at concerts sometimes but i hope he didnt steal the dance cause that would be bad it wouldnt be original
thom has actually been quoted to saying that he ripped off stipe left and right, but no matter. thom has taken the moves to a whole other level and made it his own. and its aammmazzzinnnggg
i have a version of them performing it in portugal or spain in 2001 and its def the best version ive ever heard and it sounds pretty close to this one in the video
Good song. I'm really not a die hard fan, although i do love Radiohead. That must explain why i love the album version really good. But from 2:10 and on it's pretty good, here.
this version always made me stunned. it was kinda one of those PERFECT songs alongside to street spirit and pyramid song. too bad they fucked it up so badly on the disc 2. it sounds like a cover of some wannabe electro band. like it's been made in fucking fruity loops. i have an audio version of this and i listen to it everyday. it's their choice but not a wise one. it would have been better if they didn't record it. and saved it for the next one. this version is forever.
in reply to bryanistamps... this version is not in In rainbows... this version is completely different.. they remade the track before they released it officially on the cd..
Ja increible, Thom baila como una marioneta, y a mi me causa el mismo efecto, los movimientos perfectos en el lugar perfecto, ma pasa un escalofrío por la nuca.
Too chaotic, Dr. Tchock? Jesus christ, this version is so vastly superior to the CD2 one, it's not even funny. Far better, distinct melody, a more original approach, way better fit between lyric and composition, just a better TUNE overall. The CD2 version is a botched, castrated mess of a song. It drones on with little direction and sounds like a bad remix. Which it pretty much is.
I disagree. I think the CD2 version is categorically better in every way to this version. It's more focused on what emotions its supposed to invoke. This version may be good, but its just pure jam quality. something to come out of jam. Not implying that its a bad thing, but it feels very incoherent.
Categorically better? What do you mean by that? Anyway, it's a question about taste, but I think this is just a more exciting (and also coherent) version by far. The monotonous ground note drone and the lazy "default electronic Radiohead" sound of the CD2 version annoys me a bit.
I agree with you. I like the synth MUCH more in this live version than the CD2 version. However, I can see why they made it the way they did. This live version sounds more like it belongs on Kid A or Amnesiac than it does In Rainbows.
Thats the one line I like better in this version than the disc 2 one, but the rest of the song is better on disc 2 IMO. I just love the energy of it in this.
i love thom yorkes dancing, i frickin love it. and ive got a growin obbsession with this song. i love the live and the studio version. i love it wen he says "m a puppet" in the studio version aswell
i really, really hope this song gets put out like it was played during their pre-HTTT tour (like this). i was craving this tune all the way before the release of HTTT and so very, very disappointed at it never coming out. please, radiohead, don't screw this up on disc 2! oh, i know you won't.
Well, this live version ends on a soft note... and anyways, while the studio version is much darker, I like the riff. It reminds me of "I Might Be Wrong"...both have similar melodies. I like both for different reasons, but I can totally see Yorke nailing the studio version live, with just him in the spotlight with the guitar...it would look pretty cool.
haha thom looks like he wants to scrach himself but he cant rich, its hilarious:D i love his dance, song is awesome, i hope the album version will be just like this... cheers
wow, a song that sings "up on a ladder". and then suddenly it takes you up on the ladder. it so freakin sucks that so very few care like these guys care. so many bands suck, it's pathetic. it's like most pop just speaks a language it doesn't understand.

Wow. You say that Radiohead sucks? What the FUCK do you know? You cannot evaluate Radiohead off of one performance. You have NO CLUE how good Radiohead is, they are the best band in the world. Just listen to The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail To The Thief and their latest album In Rainbows. THEY ARE ONE OF THE BIGGEST BANDS IN THE WORLD. You know NOTHING of Radiohead. Stfu.
You are both fantastic examples of annoying Radiohead fans.

not trying to nitpick, but i really think the in rainbows version of 'reckoner' is a completely different song...the chord progression is entirely different and the lyrics are as well.
