This one was at least bearable. When Anno wasn't in control, the characterization fell to shreds. Nadia falling in love with some guy, completely out of the blue, with only six episodes left in the series, was completely embarrassing.

Agreed. It felt all the more stupid, too, to have Nadia do so after she had admitted how important Jean was to her and hey, embraced him nude. I'm sorry, but having her flip on him after that feels very out of place and infuriating.

I actually heard Anno say he would've written out the whole Africa village story, as well as most of the island stuff (in addition to this episode) if he were to do this show all over again.

Although on the flipside, it DOES succeed in making Nadia re-evaluate her behavior and deciding to change her attitude. Again, however, this is a pretty dull episode--one that can be easily skipped without wrecking continuity.

Oh man, this episode is so pointless.  The concept of Jean getting Nadia to reevaluate her behavior is a good one, but it's executed very cartoonishly. The show, in short, should have written out this episode, as well as the useless island and African episodes--both really damage the show.

No we don't :P Anyway the pointlessness of the fillers is not what bothered me it was that they where poorly written and animated in such a sloppy way that they could easily be mistaken for a low budget 70s cartoon.

This song is awful, though it is awful in a funny, but a tad emarrasing, way.

It was a bad idea to have a singing episode in the first place, especially one where each song is accompanied by recycled clips from the series. I bet this episode was made to cut down on costs.

Of course, compared to the other filler eps, this one isn't the worst--that belongs to the Lincoln Island and Africa villlage episodes--the concepts there didn't have any substance or plausibility, and the animation was dreadful. An unfortunate taint on an otherwise charming series.
