@bigjoey1988 when was it an unnkown club? I've been going since I was 17 (26 now) and it's always been one of the most popular clubs in Manchester for electronic music! Its not only recent they've had trance nights either, when Golden was there it was trance every week on Saturdays!

@defusional1 Back in 99-00 (approx.) it was unknown by the masses that pretend they are on pills that go there now. I stopped going in 2003 as I moved cities but even then it was starting to become more well known by the wrong sort but 2006 was the nail in the coffin.

I used to go back in 1999 to 2002 every friday or saturday. Since the refit Ive been once and came to the conclusion that it's completely sold out, I've not been since.

Used to be a grubby music pit where everyone who had the balls to do some form of recreational drug had a place to go and do what they wanted in the perfect surroundings but now its full of fakers who just think they are cool instead of actually being cool.

Sankeys got too big and now it's all smart and cheesy!

@goonerboy93 Those are all the reasons why it's not as good! If you think the ratings in magazines like DJMag are anything to go by you've got a lot to learn. The reason Sankeys was so cool was it was pretty underground back in 99-00 and nobody really knew too much about it unless you were in the know. In 2006 it changed hands and sadly died.

It's not about the venue it's about being the few in the know. 10 years ago 99% of people would have been on pills now it's roughly 50% which is shit!

I'm just saying that going from completely unknown to being the most recognised to dj mag readers is a massive incentive for a club to so call "sell themselves out". You can't really blame them if they have a great opportunity to make it big. and it changed hands in 2006? what do u mean? it changed owners? if so then u are pretty mistaken. it changed hands before 2006.

@goonerboy93 It doesn't matter what magazine you are reading to get your information, those reviews normally depend on who knows who in that world. I worked for a music mag for a while in London and know how those polls are decided. Sankeys was made famous for being underground and in its uprising to fame lost what made it so special. I think Dave Vincent still owns it but not sure if it's with anyone else or on his own, either way Sacha has gone and he was a key figure behind its success .

You might not need 'drugs' but it's always a shit night without them and if you want to last till the finish then YOU DO NEED THEM otherwise you'll be a tired, miserable fucker that gets in the way.

Also people who are not on anything seem suspicious to those who are fucked unless they have a solid reason for not being on anything that particular night.

@goonerboy93 Look pal that's what the drug is designed to do and it works, if it didn't people wouldn't be doing it so much and for so long, it's been going on for about 25 years and we've all be loving it. People who read this and have genuinely experienced both nights with and without ecstasy will tell you both are good but the one on ecstasy is much much better I kid you not! I'm not saying you need it for a good night but it takes the night to another level.

@cockayne747 Never seen a single fight there myself. I'm sure it happens but the crowd is generally friendly.

It's out of the way of the main clubs in the city centre so people only go there if they plan to - no drunken idiots wandering in and causing trouble. The drinks are also extortionate so you'd better be going for the music.

The best bit about Sankeys is that it's pretty tiny really, yet gets huge names. I've seen Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond - all in this tiny room.

Used to be a relatively unknown club, now it has gone really commercial hence the trance nights. It used to be just tribal, techno, minimal and more underground electro. It's more friendly than 90% of clubs out there but it used to be so much better, you saw the same people week in week out and it was like a family.

To be honest, whilst the atmosphere at Sankeys is pretty good, the layout of the club is rubbish.

People are always pushing past you to get to the bar - it's not well thought out at all.
