I used to love watchng those blue & black hoppers with coal loads roll past my old home in Bedford, OH. The locomotives were a great hodge-podge: plenty of old Southern GP-30s & GP-35s, others still in Wisconsin Central or MoPac colors. I'm surprised that after all this time some are still wearing their old Southern look.
well its not to rare to see fallen flag cars still painted for their original roads. I usually see SP, SSW, C&NW, Southern, Conrail & N&W frieght cars go through Berea all the time
You'll see everything thru Berea! I know the W&LE is an econo road, but Southern's been gone for more than 20 years now. It's not unusual for gons and boxes to go un-repainted, but locomotives? Of course, I still see Conrail blue on NS.
Remember this(SOUTHERN SERVES THE SOUTH- LOOK AHEAD, LOOK SOUTH!.God what Glorious days they were. :-)

This reminded how my fellow train friend found a original Southern railway boxcar lettered "Southern serves the south" in perfect condition.

not sure where you're located but you can still find a lot of those boxcars floating around the southeast. Good catch man!

He found it near Port Huron MI somewhere and it was later reported somewhere in Wisconsin about 1 week later

Nice seeing that Rio Grande Tunnel motor. When was this filmed? Is this unit still in the RG paint scheme?
ACLTony 4 years ago
This was filmed on June 2. Its still in D&RGW paint unpatched except for a small WE marking near the engine number under the cab
