Don't wanne get anyones hopes down but there almost certainly never will be a sequel. Once a big trilogy like this is shelved, no company wants to take the risk of picking it up again. Especially since "The golden compass" cost 180 million dollars, no one is willing to invest that amount of money in a 2nd let alone a third movie...

uhm, i've never read the books and i'm not very well informed about the movie, but i liked the movie and found out that its ending is completely different. would anybody mind to explain briefly why the ending was changed, even though it was already filmed? and will there be a sequel?

@Myouqa No idea at all why the ending was changed to such a happy one. There may not be a sequel due to the fact that the 2nd book takes the "The enemy is the church" theme further and the church here doesn't want that to be portrayed. (Ironic, right?)
