Finally...I was disappointed when OK Computer was released and this song was changed, Karma Police was changed and Lucky was changed. Karma Police and Lucky have minor changes but they're noticeable.
wow, epic version. Radiohead should try and surprise fans by playing this version next time (perhaps with the "true" ending of the studio version after this version ends)
This version (or I should say a version from a month earlier 1996-07-06) 7min10sec is what they premiered. While they may have been working on a 14min variant (and referred to I believe an 11 min variant in an interview), it to my knowledge was never brought out to the audience.
I was looking for the really long version but I couldn't find it anywhere. There is supposed to be a really long organ part in it. I think it was only played a few times live but never released as a whole...sadly
The first edit was over 14 minutes long and included a long organ interlude performed by Jonny Greenwood.[6][7] Radiohead played this extended version during a tour with Alanis Morissette in September 1996.
I could swear I had this conversation before... but: their tour with Alanis Morissette was in August 1996, not September, the last show (of 5) being August 26th (Aug. 12, 14, 16, 19, 24 and 26th) - I have audio from 3 of 5 (14, 19 & 26) and PA is ~7 min in each, which makes me think it is highly unlikely to be 14 min in the remaining 2 shows. So while it is entirely possible that it was 15 min at some point - it was not during that tour and I doubt there is a public record of it.
@allbearsrule I was at the August 12th show at Darien Lake performing arts theater in Buffalo. While I don't know exactly how long they played this song, and trust me how quiet this is for the song, was how quiet it was in Buffalo. Me and my friends were unable to comprehend what we experienced that day...I did think this song was a little longer than 7 minutes however it was still way too short. I also saw them in April of the same year in Cleveland before they toured with Alanis...
I will say the April show I saw them was paled in comparison to the experience August 12th. Me and my friends went into the amusement park to ride the rides when Alanis came on stage too LOL Darien Lake is an amusement park with a large outdoor concert area. You get park and concert tickets combined. Still blows my mind that the best concert experience I'll ever have is what I got as a present for my 19th birthday. No show has come to topping this and I've seen MJ live.
Wow!!! great version ... I've never heard it before..
Love the end... but I still preffer the solo in the album version .. if they put the end of this song and then the solo in the album version .. then the song could have been even more perfect than what it is ...
they premiered it in early July a few weeks earlier (Tourout festival in Belgium, wasn't it?) and it was about this length... -the lyrics varied a bit. so 15 min rumours was a slight exaggeration :-) I heard them talking about the 10-11-min version in an interview (late 90ies interview? -can dig it up) - but that one was never made public.
this is fucking amazing. never heard it before. if you could ever come up with someway to upload the audio - this needs to be on my ipod. if not, nevermind, you've already done enough uploading it.
no prob - it's easy. As a matter of fact... I've got three of them - the most incredible premier, which is different from the way they played it a coupe of weeks later: 1996-07-06 Torhout Festival Belgium; then1996-08-14 and this Mansfield gig 1996-08-26. The first two are flacs, the last one is shn.
How i wish we could have this show in better quality...Obviously tape is very generated , VHS(4) if i recall correctly...too bad we don't have a community looking for this old vhs or analog tape shows in better quality...like, for example, ask a guy who delivered this show where did he get the tape, or maybe from whom he recorded his own copy, then ask the other one and so on and so on...i wish someone will come with upgrade for this in future!
I just sent you a note; obviously there's also YOuTube degradation that I couldn't avoid during file conversion. Anyways... we can talk more by email etc.
nunca hoy un solo tan bueno desde el de The house of the rising sun

a lesser band would have kept it this way. but the ending on the studio version is what makes it the brilliant song it still is

I'm really digging Jonny's organ solo here, but I wouldn't trade the studio version for anything in the world.
