Outer space is a vacuum, so it is a common myth that people will explode when exposed to a complete or near-complete vacuum. However, this does not happen, because the skin is strong enough to keep a person from exploding.
@BellumSacrumBellum28 Or, rather, the forces on the body in a vacuum are not strong enough to cause the body to instantaneously implode, either. One would eventually freeze to death (after suffocating), but not as fast as people generally believe.
@44247844 Funny thing is that some say the vacuum of space is really cold, but it certainly isn't absolute zero(Kelvin -273c), or else anything that moved into that space would freeze.
So I wonder if that means there has to be particles in what we call a vacuum?
Actually, outer space is not a true vacuum (although I said it was a vacuum in an earlier post). There are sparsely spread particles. A true vacuum, however, does not have anything in it (although I am not sure if this counts "virtual" particles that can slip into and out of existence almost instantaneously).
I'm losing my mind. This episode has a lot of the elements of a TV programme I saw twice, but it's not it. The one I'm looking for is about a spaceship that does the Titan-Earth run (it harvests some kind of minerals for 'the Company'), and the crew is re-awakened, only to find they are seriously out of the ecliptic of the Solar System and they pick up some 'space junk' that infects them with a disease that makes them paranoid. A nearby exploratory ship WOULD rescue them, but doesn't.
THUMBS DOWN FOR COMMERCIALS. If you haven't already made enough money on the series by chopping it up for ads when it was on TV, I won't be watching it or buying any of the products advertised.
@ShaulTalmeed I agree. The worst ones are the ones that are 30 seconds or more, and the ones you are forced to play, whether you want to or not. Before the last election, the "No on 1098" purchased these obligatory ads on ALL of the 'official music videos'. (I OF COURSE identify with a middle-aged, 50-something woman in a red pant suit making coffee who has one of those 'I'm just a working stiff, like you' accents.)

@44247844 Actually, a body being exposed to outer space would implode on itself, not explode.
