Here in the midwest and parts of the south we are having a outbreak of severe weather. Luckly here in metro st.louis all we have gotten was flash flood watches and winds. no tornados or bad thunderstorms. The weather channel is not always accurate, especially when it comes to your local area.
I have found out it seems to be the smaller stations that cover severe weather better also. I chase all the time. One time In St louis, a tornado was reported, and none of the local stations were live with it. Springfeld stations are wall-to wall coverage most of the time. Boy... it was a bad year for tornadoes....
I live in St Louis and you dont see wall 2 wall coverage like in the past.Too many viewer complaints. They all did an excellent job on the march 06 storms that tore up jefferson and perry counties and on the july 19 06 storm that knocked out power to a million people.Channels 2,4,@ 5 all have their own dopplers but seem 2 prefer using nws doppler feeds. They all have excellent experienced meteoroligists but their coverage could be better
Fox 2 usually has the best coverage. Their First Storm Alert has detailed crawls and warning maps when their not live on the air. Also they seem to have the best team of meteoroligists. If ur in stl and the shit hits the fan thats the one 2 watch.
I have realized that KMOV and KSDK hardly ever break in for severe weather. That upsets me because I'd rather be informed of what is happening in the weather than watch a show. Storm safety >>>> regular programming.
I have realized that, too. They'll only break in if the severe weather is in you exact area. They'll let you know when it's too late. Especially when it comes to tornado coverage.
You got off lighter than I did My power was out for 5 days almost to the minute. I guess we will see how the local stations do this year with severe weather. My bigger concern is the lack of upgrading and maintenance to STL county's siren system. Its slowly falling apart
Here in the Birmingham, Alabama area, we have a meoteorologist at one tv station, with the policy that if any country in the Birmingham tv market is under a tornado warning, they will go on the air and stay on the air, until the tornado warnings for the counties in the (BHM) market have expired. It makes some people mad, for example, when he breaks into their soap opera.
I live in st.louis, and luckly I was inside when both storms hit. I think south st.louis got hit the worst, I live on the north side. there was no damage done just a power outage that knocked out our power when the second wave hit on the friday morning, it sucked cause it was out the whole entire day. the weird thing is the meterologyst didn't even see those storms coming. they just poped up out of nowhere. on wendsday it started out sunny. There was no prediction of bad weather that day.
been much better if they had had live streaming video i storm chaser for fox23 in tulsa and i was streaming live video the whole time it torn picher apart our coverage rocks
Yeah i rember that day . I live in ozark it was soooo scary.. kevin did a great job on covering that storm i watch 33 more now since that. and as i was watching i could see the clouds turn dark green when he was talking about the tornado He seemed really excited about the radar echo it was funny to see him so excited .. And Natalie Nunn is HOT!! to bad she is getting married.. oh well good job kevin on covering that storm!!
I have always found that the springfield news is much better at reporting severe weather then the St. Louis Stations. I get DirectTV and we are required to use St. Louis stations now and not springfield area. I miss my Springfield weather coverage. The Weather Channel Sucks because if we have bad weather they are doing local on the 8's. Its as if they don't care.
Though at the University of Chicago, I come from St. Louis. Springfield is a nice market to come from. I expect he will be headed for a bigger pond. Thanks for responding.
actually that one is a bit far off from the other stations we have in our area. Another Channel (KY3) actually has it where they can control the Chroma Key with the their hands as they are talking. They can move the map around, and much, much more. Although, this guy is MUCH MORE acurate!
Ok here where he puts the arrow u see what looks like a green shaped tornado he needs to watch that carefully

Mr. Kevin did a fine job that day. Kudos.
I also like that new interactive program which he used during the long-form coverage.
