Gorgeous!!! Thanx for posting the whole soundtrack, I love this equally and maybe even a little bit better than Wrath of Khan... perhaps his best soundtrack ever.
Makes we want to head off for the South Sea Islands on a schooner with nothing but a set of cargo shorts, a platinum blond & a few crates of champagne every time I hear it
I see from the CD liner notes that Billy May is credited with one of the orchestrations, so I'll bet he deserves some of the credit here. No one had more expertise at recreating original Big Band arrangements (see Time Life's "Swing Era" collection), and few could match his swing arrangements for Big Band and vocal (see Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me" and MANY others). Whoever they were, everyone involved deserves credit for a sensational job!
James Horner's arrangement VERY closely follows the terrific 1938 instrumental arrangement by Artie Shaw and Jerry Gray, which became Shaw's first hit, made Porter's tune a classic, and is still one of the top-selling Big Band instrumental tracks ever. Horner did a sensational job of turning that instrumental arrangement into a vocal showcase--even the arrangement-for-vocal used by Sinatra, not based on Shaw, is not nearly so good--and Hardin, though no match for Sinatra, is terrific herself.
She has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. You may have seen her as a schoolgirl on the last episodes of "Little House" or the wife who was murdered by the Secret Service in the Clint Eastwood thriller, "Absolute Power."
