  • These videos are fantastic. What an amazing resource you're offering for free!

And it's nice that you advised against cramping. I notice a lot of that in modern comics, actually. It's really kind of stressful to see.

I have a question, as well... erm, I notice some of the words on the storyboard are typed and others are handwritten. How much do computers/digital art figure into the storyboarding process nowadays?

  • @NotJustWrongButN00by The studios are quickly transitioning to ALL digital storyboards. At Disney we've been using Toon Boom Storyboard Pro...others studios use that, too. Some others use Photoshop or Sketchbook Pro. All that matters is that you know how to storyboard, and if you're familiar with Photoshop or other art programs, you'll be able to use whatever software the studio is using.

  • @StoryboardSecrets Thank you for answering so quickly! Wow, everything seems to be going to computers nowadays.

  • I've noticed that after the first panel, the storyboard no longer shows the background of the kitchen appliances and such. Is this because it's self-explanatory and the background artists will later add it, or is it because that's the Mighty Bee's art-style?

Also, thank you so much for posting this, it has helped me out A LOT.

  • @candychandelier -- I'm glad you brought up the backgrounds -- a great topic all on its own ^_^

Short answer: There SHOULD be a background in at least the FIRST panel of every scene...the fact that some of these boards lack the BGs is a reflection of the crazy deadlines, etc. They SHOULD be in there.

In the next few videos, there are some new shots/angles presented...and you'll see that I talk about the new BG that I have drawn in there.

  • @StoryboardSecrets Ooh, thank you so much! I'm currently learning to storyboard for a fan-animated group, so I've been following the storyboard concept as if I was writing a comic, but now I see where I've been so terribly wrong. Thanks again for uploading this. =D
