Well just so we are clear this was probably a clip from the Assembly Committee on Agriculture, which may be having hearings on bills. I want you all to be aware the "ASSEMBLY" has come to an agreement about the budget. We are waiting on the Senate Republicans to come to the table abd agree on cuts or give some solutions to the problem. There isnt' more the assembly can do right now, becasue they are waiting for the Senate to get it together. After that is complete the Gov. needs to approve it.

California GDP is only up 58% in the last 10 years (FY 1999-2009), and yet state spending is up 99%. It's simply disingenuous to suggest that that spending is not the problem, given those simple numeric *FACTS*.

It's either docking of pay, or layoffs. The money is simply not there, and we're not going to raise taxes any more. California was not falling apart in 1999, there is no reason it would fall apart at the same level of spending proportional to GDP.

My mother is an engineer for Caltrans and has been going through salary cuts and furlough days. We might be losing our home in the next month.

Not to legitimize what they are doing, but often people will choose to act on something they know they can deal with quickly instead of something insurmountable. Sometimes people will choose to do a small set of math problems before a long book report for the simple sake that this way they can feel accomplished quickly even though the bigger thing remains.
