They are really good together here--these promos always made me stop whatever I was doing to watch, they're so entertaining--but last night during the actual broadcast... eh, not so much. The chemistry we see here was not as in evidence last night, they just weren't in synch or something. Maybe it was nerves, but James barely looked at Anne when she spoke, even when she was talking directly to him! Wtf happened? (On the up side, Annie looked gorgeous in all her wardrobe changes)

I think this is the Academy's attempt to attract younger viewers to the telecast. I just hope it does not debase itself to MTV award standards. This is the Oscars after all and a sense of prestige has to be preserved. Trust me, I'm no prude. I can appreciate a good fart joke with the best of 'em, but this is a different audience and tone. That being said, I think Franco and Hathaway are two of today's best young actors out there. I hope they do well.

Getting Franco and Hathaway to host the Oscars might have been a good idea. They seem like they will bring fun and humor as well as a youthful exuberance to the festivities. It is a very pretigious ceremony, so I hope it doesn't reach the depths of MTV award show levels, but I think it will be good to see a these actors bring a breath of fresh air to a normally boring and stodgy show.

I know that the award is almost guaranteed to go to Colin Firth, but I really hope that James Franco takes away a surprise win. His performance was every bit as good as Firth's, but his role was so much harder to sell. He gave a phenomenal performance with so little to work with, so I have to say that he is more deserving of recognition.
