  • Not defending atrocities that Americans commit in war, I would like to point out that the enemy rapes and kills as well. To their own people even. This isn't an American problem, it's a mankind problem.

  • I wonder what's going on in the Middle east right now....

  • Im vietnamese she is saying "im in so much pain. What have i done to you i have not harmed anyone. Please dont me." in response to all the stupid comments you americans ARE the barbaric animals. And you all will get whats coming to you

  • this is heartbreaking, almost made me cry :(

  • this girl is fucking ugly michael J.Fox is too hot for her !!

  • Sean Penn is one bad ass dude in this one.

  • Sean Penn is one bad ass dude in this one.

  • The most terrifying part of this scene is he doesn't understand what she's saying. It's so sad too.

  • Who cares about those worthless VC, animals as far as I'm concerned.

  • @jdrock0 one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. they had a right to fight to get rid of foreign influences in their country. they had had centuries of french oppression, they finally ran them off and then we showed up. in the late 40's, the north vietnamese asked for our help to set up a gov't and get the french out, using diplomatic means. we refused.

  • @jdrock0 That poor girl wasnt VC, she was a civilian. In any war the civilians always suffer the most

  • shit like this happens in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And they wonder why soldiers are still going home in Body bags and Wheelchairs.

They've done enough atrocities to encouraged a resistance for a decade

  • i forgot from whence the quote was from but it was said by some general who was in nam at the time and he said something to the effect that every troop, every squad had its own mai lai to tell. this shit was standard practice and the orders to do so was not given by some wayward soldier who happened to find himself in control but by the higher officers. incidents such as these were by no means isolated; it was common throughout the war. so much for being the good guys...

  • evil english did same thing in Ireland,Scotland And Killed Innocents in jallianwala naugh massacre and Killed A Great Christian Saint Joan Of Arc Who Fought For The Freedom Of Her Motherland France

  • De Palma's Casualties Of War(1989) Best War Film,Best Acting Work Of Michael J Fox,Best Musical Composition Of Morricone And "Maybe It Matters More" BEST SPEECH IN ANY FILM IN ANY TIME

  • Could have been a pretty good movie, but the acting ruins it.Penn gives his worst performance.Harvey as penn's lead henchmen,he's constantly overacting and when he's giving menacing looks, you just giggle. And fox wasn't believable for a second, whenever he tried to be dramatic,he looked as if he was still talking to christopher lloyd.Depalma's cheesy music was the capper.Casting and bad choice of music sank this film.

  • @TheGatorfan93 Penn his worst? please tell me, did you hate him in this movie? I DID and that is why I thought penn was amazing!

  • @hillena Yes,easily his worst. Its easy to hate anyone playing that role. But i found myself laughing at his horrible accent, and over emoting.

  • @hillena sean penn is an excellent actor,he can portray any persona, from surfer boy spicoli to retarded father sam and in between, some people like gator fan here don't have a clue, this movie has big time actors, like john c reilly, ving rhames, leguizamo, even the guy that plays capt hill has been in quite a few films,i've seen him in platoon also, fox and penn were excellent in this film.

  • @TheGatorfan93 Damn, you such a child...

  • I'm Vietnamese-American. Vietnam war was a mess from both sides. I'm grateful of Americans help evacuating more than thousands of ARVN civilians to freedom after the fall of Saigon in 1975. The NVA and VCtook my ARVN officer grandfather to reeducation camp for 15 years. My mom and dad property was taken away and they ended up being poor for more than 4 years. The average VCs soldiers were no angels. In the end, it took my mom 4 years by boat to come here by boat in USA.

  • damn this scene just gets me real upset ,also when he confides his story to the chaplain, and the end when the oriental girl ask if he had a bad dream? and he replies yes, then she says i think is over now,the relief that you see in his face after she tells him just stays on my mind, what a movie !

  • Even though I walk through the valley of shadow and death, I shall fear no evil. For I'm the meanest motherfucker in the whole fucking valley.

  • Very powerful film; and superb acting from Fox, Penn and the actress who played the Vietnamese girl

Private Erikkson really was in a very difficult position. Often it takes a brave man (or indeed woman) to stand up for justice even if they risk ridicule, unpopularity or even persecution.

Most soldiers are decent and genuinely honourable people. But any 'man' that treats a female like that is a coward... uniform or otherwise. Soldiers are people and some are trigger happy thugs

  • My english teacher was talking about this movie because we are in the vietnam era. he talked about the scene where she was raped, so I had to look this up. Very sad.

  • wow- just wow at Michael's performance! he's just absolutely amazing

  • Wow the vietnam war did bring shame on America though the few guys who didn't believe in what they were doing and did their best to stop what they could, I rate them for standing up to what is right! I would love to shove Nixon in there and see how he likes to be treated by the men that he put there and then hopefully get blown up by guerilla tactics and die! x

  • @7b70j0 i enjoyed your comment up until the last sentence about Nixon. That was very immature. Research Nixon's actions during the war and understand what he was doing before saying something like that.

  • No matter how many times I watch this movie, I always cry

  • As much as I want to pound the shit out of Sean Penn, and John C Reilly...I read that after Sean Penn saw this in actors screening he had to see a therapist for 4 months to cope with depression from this role.

  • @littlefuzzer where did you read this ?

  • Horrible shit..this girl was incredible as the actress in this role. This is whatb it was like over there. All the poor trailer trash and migrants of the world became the voice of reason in Vietnam.

  • i wouldnt have put up with that shit if i was part of that company of soldiers, i wouldnt have let them take or rape that girl, dont get how ppl could do that, i wouldve put a few bullets in their heads

  • @tysonthepooper

Thats how I feel as well. But we cannot underestimate how difficult the position Private Erikkson was in. If he just shot the bastards, it would only be his word to explain it. There were serious cover-ups in Vietnam, notably at My Lai and those troops brave enough to speak up, were simply silenced

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 theres coverups in every war, we (the public) dont know half of the war crimes that have been commited by governments all around the war.

  • @tysonthepooper

Your'e right. Here in the UK we have made cover-ups of crimes of the British Empire as well

  • I'm 22 years old and i'm a guy, i almost cried at 1:19 and i'm not ashamed to admit it

  • My father used to be a Marine Lieutenant, served in 'Nam. He told me, one of the most disgust and horrible thing he ever seen, was that an Army servicemen tried to rape a village girl, and he couldn't do a damn to stop it. He had never ever let any from his platoon did a damn on civilians, although one of his men once beat an old man, and make my old man loose his rag. My father almost got a court martial for beating the guy who beats the old Vietnamese man.

This movie reminds me ma' old man.

  • WHy did they stop making good war movies? The last good one that came out was Black hawk down

  • @Maxpow33r I like We Were Soldier. What d'ya think?

  • @Marine17inlove thats a great film napalm is nasty shit, i thought thAT was made before black hawk down???

  • This film is the best i have ever seen Michael J Fox. He proved what an excellent actor he is.

  • the stereo types that you people insist are reality literally sicken me. None of you were there, so stop making judgments as to what it was like.

  • Think about it... you are forced to murder people. It would change your reality in a hurry. Maybe these soldiers got crazy after being through so much? I dont think I would do what they did but I never saw action. I believe you are trained to let the reality you are living to roll off you. Would you have to become heartless to be able to get through that reality? I felt like crying seeing that girl plead for help but does that psyche make you too weak to survive what war presents?

  • @dallas5sb I'm sick of that mentality. Being a combat vet doesn't give people an excuse to rape women, kill children, fuck with corpses or commit other atrocities. Does war suck? Absolutely. But anybody that's been there knows when they're slipping.

  • Thanks alot Richard Nixon, Hope youre burning in hell you piece of shit, for all the people you got killed, raped, maned and crippled.

  • i was stationed of there i wasnt in the vietnam war i know the horror's that accured there i killed 3 of my guys for attempting to rape a 19 year old girl my sgt, was one of them fucking pig he planed it so i burnt him alive

  • @VampiresBiteHard666 Haha, shut the fuck up.

  • @killu19 im serious you'll never understand what i went through the horrors the fear its like when your over there and see what goes on when you return you'll never be the same im haunted by visions i shouldnt a killed them cauz every NVA troop heard and i was in a firefight i gave the girl my sgt's m4 dug in and we held them off yea it was 2 against the whole north vietnam army and regulars we fought for 14 days so im guessing over 5.9 million i was rewarded the congresional medal of honor

  • @VampiresBiteHard666 Lol, shutup.

  • thats what happen everyday over there this is sad

  • @jakkin03 any need to be racist? -.-

  • Comment removed

  • @jakkin03 'white cocksuckers' you could have just said cocksuckers or bastards instead of including the 'white' which makes it racist

  • j fox is excellent!

  • honestly if i ever went to war and i wasnt completely mentally fucked up, i would probably throw a nade and blow my rapist comrades up

  • i hate the u.s. military. Or any military

  • @shadyltd080 why.......the fight for our freedom.......veitnam was kinda unnecissary but stil..... it takes a lot of guts to do what they do

  • @anokamn5 Freedom yes. but the price is bullshit. we fight while our leaders eat fuckin prime rib and drink cristall. i believe that war is just for territorial gain. and the U.S. hides the truth from it's people on the real reason's why we fight for. They know why... I lost many battle buddies. now Im home with nothing but scar's & nightmares. and I seen this type of behavior amongst fellow soldiers. so to me this movie is accurate 100%

  • For all of you who don't speak Vietnamese, let me translate what she is saying to Michael J. Fox. "Please don't rape me! Please don't beat me. I want to go home! I want to go home and see my mother! I want my mother! Why did you rape me? Why? Please let me go home! Please let me go home to see my family. Please mister! I want to see my mother and sister. I beg of you!" Any questions about this movie? Movie make me sick. Time to stop the war in the middle east.

  • kk for that comment women are strong very cause women handle more pain then men...can a man give birth?? I doubt go what women go through and those assholes that did that to that poor girl....the americans where suppose to protect the villiagers not do this!!!! fucking dicks....and so many have gotten away with it...I hope those people suffer for the rest of their lives no sleeps ...not living in peace!!!!

  • This is probably one of the best and most touchingly true war crimes i have ever heard of. And Michale J Fox did awesome! I was shocked by his preformance because I was used to seeing him in comedies. Sean did great too..as usual!

  • @ Jaduan2 your not a man if you dont cry at this...your hearltess

  • @mulat the point was we were supposed to be over there to help them people....read your facts before you make a ridiculous comment like that

  • just carious lol was these guys in there little 5 man unit marines or army?

  • poor whore :(

  • I nearly cried when i first watched this movie. U_U

  • @MulatovCocktail ummm, it's the ultimate genocide. in most cultures, the baby is taken on in the faith of the father. in bosnia, they raped all the women. the ones who got pregnant, couldn't raise their children as muslims, it was a way the serbs used to get rid of the muslims. and killing innocents is always wrong, sorry.

  • @tranurse Killing innocents is what America does

  • @MrDjoyahs we're not the only ones. get a grip.

  • @tranurse Well outta every person and every country America killed the most! And the racism never ended! Perhaps I should leave and tell blacks in other countries that it still isn't safe to come here! Lmao are you a racist! and please tell me that you are not a republican!

  • @MrDjoyahs hmmm, hitler killed a bunch, stalin killed a bunch, the turks killed a bunch....... i've never said we were perfect, and how does saying america isn't the only country that has done bad things make me a racist????? and i am NOT a republican. i just don't think that this is the absolute worst place on earth. and i promise i'm not stalking you.

  • @tranurse

They should get rid of muslims in the whole world :) then there wouldnt be terrorists anymore

  • what the hell is wrong with you !!!

  • @MulatovCocktail you are a sick and disgusting person, you wouldn't be saying that if americans wiped out your entire family

  • killing is wrong period but don't act like killing any person is worse

  • @MulatovCocktail WOW something is seriously fucked up with you if you can say that. Traditionally women aren't as strong as men and can't defend themselves very well and children may become future soldiers but as they are now they are innocent and should not be punished as someone who already have had a full life as a grown up. You are a fucking heartless MORON!

  • some of the ladies must love micheal j fox but have they taken a good look at this at how much more of a hero he has become in a much more nastier film.

  • some of the ladies must love micheal j fox but have they taken a good look at this at how much more of a hero he has become in a much more nastier film

  • some of the ladies must love micheal j fox but have they taken a good look at this at how much more of a hero he has become in a much more nastier film

  • after watching platoon and now this, is what proves what a disgrace vietnam war was. Those proud americans who fought in world war two but this war bunny boy in platoon and sean penns character have proved to be nothing but nazis and disgrace humanity.

No wonder vietnam was so fucked up

  • @rob14swans

do you really think (US) soldiers in ww2 were much different from this?

  • @sammythangerules em yes? Vietnam was and will always be the most fucktup war in history. They are taking drugs and raping yung kids.

  • i swear is fuckin pissed off when i watched this film and angry for what they did to her. snatched her from her own home, raped her, beat her, and killed her. this is an atrocity that really hits you deep. i really do feel for her, for any rape victim of war. sad to know that this is even happening in the middle east

  • I heard her say, "Thank you." She certainly broke character with that!

  • gee what would superman do?

    what would batman do?

and then what would james bond do?

what would you do if this was your family?

    hmmmmm. what would madonna do?

  • atrocities were committed on both sides. The big difference is communist side was never (or rarely) subjected to close scrunity about those crimes. To be fair most US military personnels are discipline and well behave.

  • she also said "Please don't beat me I only want to go back to my mom".

  • from the start when he was trying to untie her she was screaming "I beg of you I beg of you please do not hurt me, please don't beat me, I've never hurt anyone..."

  • rangerrocket25: yes it is based on a true story, based on an article written by the late daniel lang for "the new yorker" in 1969 i believe

  • Was this movie based on a true story?

  • Michael J. Fox was perfect for the role of "Private Erikkson". Just perfect.

  • @Stevens89265,

His best performance of his career. Completely flawless.

  • @ilysillybilly before he game her the food she something like "sir please don't" but then after he gave her the water she said "sir I can see that your a good man, please take me home"

  • @ilysillybilly I'm South Viet like her so I'm translate bvut she is pretty crazy at this point but it sounds like she said " please I didn't do anything wrong. i just want to see my mom and ad again. Please don't hurt me anymore. Please don't kill me i just want to go home and I won't tell anyone just don't kill me. I never hurt anyone." I broke my heart just hearing it.

  • @CrimesonWitcher wow... Im going to definitely going to bawl whenever I see this scene... before I just used to tear up

  • @marvelmax03191 ya I know. It changes the whole scene when you know what the victim is saying right? DEATH to all rapist! I'm not saying this to you directly but...I don't give a fuck what happened to you or why you feel you have a right too but If I catch you or anyone who did this to another person there will be a hanging and a beating and maybe a hanging again! I hate rapist. When I heard that soldiers were pulling this type of shit again today it pissed me the fuck off.A person is a person.

  • @CrimesonWitcher Saudi Arabia has a perfect punishment for rapists...

  • @gothless forgive me but aren't those the same countrys that punish women for getting raped? I could be wrong so forgive me if I am.

  • :'(

  • I first saw this movie when I was like 5 or 6 and it still breaks my heart to this day.

I was watching it on my PVR and DVD lately and every time I watch it I get a lump in my throat and my lips quiver at 1:15when the girl's face is revealed....

  • We never should have been in Nam

  • @HUSKY57887 McNamera

  • such a sad part of the film, had to hold back the tears a little watching this clip...poor girl

  • Almost impossible to watch. Still, w ought to watch.

  • No, fuck rapist pigs from ANY country!

  • This is a great movie, but soo, sad. To depressing to watch! I hope those fuckers got what they deserved!

  • Probably not. They only come down hard on deserters. Murderrers, rapists and the scum get sent off to somewhere quiet.

  • My favorite part of this whole movie is when Cpl.Clarke gets smacked with a shovel :)

  • yeah the shovel scene was great but sean penn did a very good job on this one I hated him so much I could really kick his ass if he were in front of me!!!!!

  • Well they rape her, and murder her so yeah...

  • Yeah what?

  • @GYPSYQUEEN5050 They did, but the sarge guy got it too light.

  • I love this, youtube fuckkers removed it off and i did not even finish the film. FUCK YOUTUBE. Thanks for uploading it.

  • lol learn to spell english words right first^^

  • She is not a bitch, in the film she's a young virgin girl kidnapped.

  • thats right and you know i would kick any american ass who rape beautiful girls like that.

  • they'd probably kick your ass.

  • @eiluj1898 Whoever called that child a bitch is one sick mofo. Hope their mother doesn't ever get raped. That's what kills me about misogynist; they hate the very essence that they came from, that gave them life: Women!

  • i read somewhere that when the girl first auditioned the director told her to look scared; it was enough to land her the part

  • lol sean penn and hugos characers did that to her, dont go blowing up there houses

  • i cry everytime i watch this movie. and you don't have to be a punk because you did. i'm a man and will admit it. EVERYTIME.

  • good for you jaduan2 we need more men like u, thumbs up

  • What a touching scene. And what a great actor Michael J Fox is, though Back to the future will always be his best!!!

  • was fox the one that raped her

  • No, the other guys in the squad did.

  • Probably not though, as that's the entire plot of the film.

Plus, don't do that to my childhood memories of back to the future =]

  • I still can't belive american soldiers did this it makes me cry every single time i see this.

They were suppose to help but these 4 guys not eriksson they did something that can never be forgotton.

    No rights.......they had no rights!

  • I wonder what would have happened if Eriksson tried to hug her and cradle her. Do you think she would have let him?

I would have tried that, just to get her to calm down.

This scene hurts me when I see it. I mean I know war is hell and soldiers don't exercise good morals or even judgment during war but this is just bad.

  • wiseguy453 no way she would have calmed down with touching her, this girl who was probably 14 years old a virgin was stolen tortured and raped by several men several times now way she wants contact, instincts tell er to survive but she is dead inside

  • @hillena I agree.. The Last thing a rape victim wants is to have a man touching her...

  • destruction will lead to peace.

  • tank u das rite the only way to deal wit vcs is destruction

  • War dehumanizes people

    :(

  • Michael J Fox is brilliant

  • This is so damn shocking sad, everytime i watch this i feel really bad, really really bad! My god, how can someone do that to another human being, this is so inhuman. All rapists and molesters must be punished severally!

  • There American..they feel they have control of any minority. America the biggest bullies in the world..if there not bombing another country then they are raping there women!

  • so true about the minority thing!!! but about the rape thing...not all americans are like that. these soldiers have only been exposed to violence , so what do u expect from them???

  • Most people in a situation like this don't know where reality of war stops and cruel insane abuse starts....

The strongest nations have a bigger exposure throughout history

  • Aw, Did I offend someone?

  • not all army men are like that!!!!

my fiancee is in the army

  • So is my step-father...well he's in Marines ;) Not everything is black and white. There's a fine line between the enemy and hero in wars. People need to stop stereotyping Soliders and other nations. Because if you do then you're no more ignorant then the person who doesn't believe stuff like this happens. Now back to the movie: It severly disappointed me when Diaz gave in because it's a prime example of mob menality and too many people are suspectible to it.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if this was going on right now in different parts of the world..I do not trust Army men....they do this shit cause they think they can get away with it....sick bastards!!!

  • she is the same girl, that it was in the train....at the end of the movie....

  • Protip: Army rapes women. All armies rape women. Armies of all countries. And armies of countries that have existed for 1,000s of years raped. You give men power... they are going to use it. There is no country innocent of this.
