Sorry kermitville, typical fuckin guitarist aren't you?? Bottom line it works, and he gives it all, who isn't a fan of Hendrix or Stevie anyway? must be you mate, Hendrix rocked that scale, is he faceless??? Dickhead
Mike is great! We love his style. We cover Rockin in the Free World in our band. We just put a video up of it on our youtube page filmed at a recent gig. Not sure what Pearl Jam song we are gonna play yet. Rearview Mirror?
Nah, sorry. This guy's playing is generic. Competent, sure. But he gets way too much mileage out of that one blues scale he keeps playing. Yeah he'd be great at some dive bar, but is pretty faceless for a guitar star.
@kermitneville jimmy page lived on blues scales, do you call him faceless? pearl jam was a blues driven grunge band, wtf else scale was mike supposed to use? the man's got more style than any other guitarist in the 90s, and the only one that come close is ma
@kermitneville Ok dickhead, when you are the lead guitarist for a Band that sticks together for 20 years and is one of the influential musical powers of its time I will listen to you ya dipshit. You're just saying that to sound hip, like you have this knowledge that we don't because we all agree that he rocks. Which allows you to seem superior to our opinion because it's different.
what makes this more inspirational is that he was probably suffering from unimaginable Crohn's disease related pain while playing all of these. He's my hero.
my opinion of mike's soloing actually went down after watching these.I certainly hope these are not his "BEST" solo works as i was not impressed with any of them possiblyexcepting the ledbetter work.Mike is WAY better than this paltry stab at representation of his best works.Personally i thought that Mike sounded extremely pure after coming out of rehab and working on the mad season record. His solo on "wake up" is unequelled period but thats just my humble opinion. of course evryones entitled
There are not many guitarists that I can sit and listen to them jam out but Mike is one of the few that just mesmerize me when he plays. He and David Gilmour are the best in my opinion (for long jams). I'm sure others have their own...
yes AWESOME compliation. THANK you for posting/making this. Mike McCready is an awesome guitar player and someone I have definatly looked up to having grown up as a teenager in the hey-day of the "seattle Scene" (and a native NW'rner from portland) Again, thankyou for this vid mate. I can't tell you how GREAT it is to see REAL music on youtube for a change instead of a managerie of tweens singing off key and getting called "stars"... The 90's were FULL of stars who STILL rock.
I like how his lows are totally breaking up, and it more and more clear the closer you get to the treble frequencies. Totally awesome tone... Any gear nerds who could tell us average joes how to get that kind of tone?
@martinwrang a Marshall stack + tubescreamer + strat should generaly do for his early days tone, however, being a tonefreak and Mike Mccready-fan myself, I know it's very hard to recreate all Mikes tones over the past 20 years, because he has done so many different things and sounds! All I can say is, a Tube screamer and Stratocaster have always been present in his gear, and e JCM800 of Plexi- styled amp should do for the dirty rythm sounds, while a Fender-like amp should do for the clean!
grande mike! yellow ledbetter en buenos aires lo hiciste aca ese solo en ferro! gran concierto!! espero que vuelva pearl jam a la argentina!!!! VAMOS PEARL JAMMMMMMMMMMm!!!
at 6:20 the lump in the throat started, at 6:50 i was still holding back the tears, soon after that the floods came. no one, no one makes that guitar cry like Mike. I'm happy to see this video because inevitably, at shows, my eyes are closed as i just take in the beauty of that sound, and i have to remind myself to "watch!". awesome video. Mike is God!
Go see him live and you will understand that he is not only the best guitar player alive, but Pearl Jam is the best group alive. The is no argument!!! John frusciante REALLY dude...I love RHCP too but come on! whats next....slash over stevie ray vaughn....HA!

Considering Mike solos out in just about every PJ song, this was probably extremely hard for you. Then again, considering every single solo by mike is badass, you could've just picked any random set of videos and they would've worked :)
I totally agree man. My 2 favouirite bands are also RHCP and PJ. and i also think John has a different emotion to his music. Though you hardly ever see John frying his guitar for more than 2 minutes. It's unusual. However. when he does decide to solo out, there's nothing like it. Bottom line is that in my opinion, they are the best guitarrists around playing in bands. I liked his solo's better in the 'Ten'-era, because they were much more bluesy, and powerfull. He is still great nowathesedays, but for some reason his solo's are to much hammerons-pullof-shreddish like playing, wich isn't as 'emotional' as those solo's back in the early 90's.
Mcready is the King! This guys takes me away like no other Ive seen live, and Ive seena lot. For me personally, Frusciante doesnt come close to what Ive heard from Mike in a live set, not that I dont rate Frusciante, but for me Mike hits a certain spot that takes me to another planet! Thanks for ther vid, rock on!
@rocoloco95..a very good list, however, personally, i think the Black solo from Live at he Garden in 03 should definately be in there.....apart from that, kudos sir.
@TerrAmilo actually Terr... he plays that same ending to YL on the ''Live at The Garden'' DVD and i suspect it's just improvision and a more elaborate way to close out the show
@rocoloco95 Yesss!!..its buenos aires, argentina. and i was right beside the cameraman, so i had exactly the same view you see in the video....amazing two nights, while the setlists might look very "standard", the band was feeling so comfortable and having so much fun that they are still 2 must have boots for any hardcore fans...believe me
Mike is my favourite guitarrist and I really like how he express through his guitar. The thing is there are lots of guitarrists that are really overrated not such as Mike what he has never look after is popularity.
my two favorite bands are red hot chili peppers and pearl jam... i like mike a lot and am i guitar player myself and i think john frusciante is better at guitar and more exciting to watch than mike...i think that john puts in more emotion to his guitar playing than mike...im not putting down mike at all i watch both to learn as much as i can from them both great legends for sure and again not putting mike down hes great in his own way as john is
ya man nothing against mcready... i love him as a guitarist hes awesome i just like frusciantes style of guitar better .. i guess it just suits me more... i like him a lot because if you notice all of his live solos are all different and improvised on the spot... i think thats the best way for a guitarist to really express himself emotionally to his/her fans...if u wanna c somethign cool look up frusciante solos...its his best solos part one... awesome stuff
john is the lead and rythmn he is amazing at lead guitar... on you tube type in john frusciante solo and its the 10 min one its part one watch and and comment back im just interested on what you think after watching it. He has great harmonies and can shred. Im not interested in shredding i just love good lead lines that have awesome harmony
@dviper72 RHCP was my favourite band (I don't like new pop stuff)........ I can play a lot of their songs (like under the bridge, Bssm, suck my kiss, sexy mexican maid....) and I think that Frusciante is not a good lead guitarist (especially live).... but he is still one of my favourite rythm guitar player !
ya a lot of there songs are not hard to play but its just that simple creativity is all a band needs. You dont need to be some insande shredding guitarists to make a band good just simple creativity. Please watch that one video i told you about and just let me know what your thoughts are i think hes an excellent lead he has very appealing lead lines. Please watch it and get back to me id like to hear what you think at least after watching it.
100% agreed! I feel one of the best parts about John is you feel you can connect with him when he plays because he's playing with so much emotion... sometimes its not about what they're playing its about the passion they have for it.
@Esmitherz64 very well said man thats exactly wut i feel... dont get me wrong i play guitar and model myself after john and mike... there both great and very similar in there own ways...but wut u said was well put...cheers bro
I like Mike and John, too. They way I see it, John is more of a guitarist who looks to the future, while Mike is a reflection of the past. PJ and RHCP rule!!!!!!!!!
@dviper72 frusciante is funkier, i absolutely love his work on californication and blood sex, he's closer to hendrix on those which is mindblowing...but i see pearl jam more like in the perspective of an entire band....mike solos are just a plus on live shows, i'm not paying too much attention to his solos as much as the songs, pj is my fav band though
@dviper72 you must be my distant relative because RHCP and Pearl jam are my favourite bands too, i play guitar and my favourite guitar player is John Frusciante.
@dviper72 Different styles, but IMO Mike M is more my taste then John... John IMO tries to be too OUT there some times. I've NEVER liked his solo stuff and frankly Hilal was a true Loss to RHCP...NOW, having said that I do think John is a VERY tallented guitar player (I'm a guit player as well) ... Just not my style. I'm a Jimmi and Stevie Ray fanatic and I think for me McCready is more that direction. just my opinion.
my fav is the even flow solo from touring band 2000.... i was 18 when i first heard it and ever since then ive been a HUGE pearl jam fan. mike and stone are so good.
Great video! Now we need a follow-up with Black, Nothing As It Seems, Go, Severed Hand, Crazy Mary, Porch, Red Mosquito, Inside Job...good god he has so many amazing solos nevermind, follow-up videos would take a damn century!
Mike is a LEGEND, anyone who thinks otherwise, doesn't know shit about music. that simple.

Nice compilation! I can imagine how daunting of a task it can be, since Mike is, in my opinion, one of the best guitarist out there; past or present.

Thanks... in my opinion mike is also a bit underrated, but he's really a great guitarist, that's why i've done this compilation :)
