@pdunklau I have had a tire blow out on me at 30mph and that was scary. Let alone 62mph. Anyway this is extream. I woulndt want to be doing a one hander while pushing the rider infront at that speed, all it takes is a slight bum and bang. Youve crashed., but thats one of the reasons i love biking.
@Mr1997Flight IKR! if it wasnt for that little thought in your mind about death being inches away it wouldnt be as lovable. as for the blowout, damn! 30 is not the best time to have it happen. i was descending a valley by the illinois river and was going 40 when somehow my brake pads had worn out enough to slice my tire and tube after a descent. it was the back tire so i was able to get control and screech to a stop lol

Fucking love cycling. I just hope it remains with white riders without introducing any black riders in the future. Don't want to see filthy monkeys on good bikes in the TDF.
pretyy nice, me exatcly the same... just started cycling. but 145 km continuously so no real stops. in a month I´m going to cycle 230 kilometers continuously:p
Basically whats going on in 0:40 is the blue rider in the back is drafting the green one up front, gaining speed. Then when he's about to pass, he transfers momentum to the green rider and drafts again. This technique helps both riders gain more speed together than on their own. Its a common practice used in downhill longboarding as well.
I go up mt.seymour (vancouver,bc,canada) quite often and while I was quick to get used to going 85-90km/h I could never get used to going 100km/h I'm 13 years old and got plenty of years to get used to it and some day end up going down this same descent alongside the rest of the peleton, this is my dream whats yours?
In Austria I have done 84 Km/h , but I think 100 km/h is a moment of shaking on the bike thats the limit , faster is thing of self-confidence. From 70km/h you must to hold your bike strong. But it depent a lot of the road condition. I took a long corner with 70 km/h and there was a hunch(long) in this corner and I didn't see it because I ride so fast , but I have feel it and this can be fatal . It was like Jens Voigt in the Tour of 2009 (look for ' Jens Voigt Crash 21-07-09 ' )
The rider behind the other cyclist was drafting in his wind shadow...therefore he could go at a faster speed, but if he would've swerved to the side he would've lost that advantage and they would've just ridden side by side. So he gives him a push instead, and they both benefit :D
@NikodemusNikodemus Very True. By veering to the side, the Liberty Saguaros rider would've lost the wake and sunk back quick. At that speed, the laws of physics doesn't recognize pedaling that fast to catchup.
I hit 44mph on a Chris Boardman hybrid fully loaded for a two week tour with panniers/tent/water/bar bag etc on a descent on the isle of Arran. That was scary
so heres my question...i see people get off the saddle and nearly just sit on the top tube...here they stay on the saddle..whats more aerodynamic? that is a very "precarious" position....
@Bhousm76 you probably see that in mountain biking. They do that basically to prepare for impact and keep the back wheel on the ground. Here though, people want to make themselves as small and as skinny as possible so they stay on the saddle, get low, and touch their knees to the bike frame.
A few years ago I climbed the Tourmalet from Luz St Saveur side then turned around and came back down, it was instantly 100 kmh, scared the crap out of me, then I realised hell, I have 30 more kms of this... so slowed up as much as I dared.. other guys, locals, no doubt were screaming by talking and laughing.. I felt like such a Fred..
There is a hill a 1.5 miles long just 10 miles west of Fort Collins, CO that you can easily 55-65mph (wind depending) on a good road bicycle. It is nearly a complete straight shot down at 12% for 1.5 miles. Everytime I take someone new to go climb it they always crap themselves on the way down. Nothing better in life than climbing, descending, and just going fast on a road bicycle!
Dude that's crazy. Those guys are so professional. I tried to push my brother along one time just joking around on a 100 mile ride and I almost ended up crashing. And we were doing like 20mph. These guys are going 60!
@stOOpin4U All depends on the crash. Of course you can get really messed up, but if you're lucky, you might land on wet grass. I've skidded and fallen on wet road and I skidded a couple of meters but wasn't barely scratched thanks to the wetness. (and I wasn't going anywhere close to 100 km/h)
jesus just watchin this is makin me uneasy, 35mph is round about my bravery threshold, any faster and id shit my self, but whats weird is driving a car very fast aint a problem i guess it the thought of coming off at that speed that scare,s me!!
I once did 53 mph on a descent. You just have to be experienced enough to stay calm. Narrow curvaceous tracks in a city are much worse imo ;) But nice vid anyway.
