  • the hoggwash at the end about the hero captain steering the plane away from the build ing to save the lifes of the people in the hanger, hollywood hoggwash, i have heard that same line for forty years now, if i was the captain i would be steering the plane away from the building to try and save my own life, which in turn would save the passingers lifes, period.

  • god bless fight 5481

  • fat americans

  • Fuck you Air Midwest!

  • u do have a point. Thanks for enlightening me but I don't think someone'd take such an important decision like hiring someone based on a comment he made on you tube. beside, I'm too skilled and qualified for someone to deny me a job. trust me.. u need to understand I DON'T HATE WOMEN. It was just a comment more like a joke. I doubt if you are a guy coz of the way you talk. NO disrespect. if you are a guy, u must be gay. Tell me are you..??Nothing's wrong with that anyway.. Thanks for ur advices

  • Being fat can kill.

  • Stop begging for subs you pathetic noob. No, I won't subscribe, no matter how many vids you post, what a joker!

    Don't you have any shame?

  • NTSB Says that every Air craft accident makes flying safer. Very true but the problem is that one day flying will be perfectly safe but there will be no passengers or crew to fly since they all have been killed in previous accidents which made flying safer. Well said NTSB...Stupids...

  • look at 4:38 and at 4:31.. the plant falls off the damn thing. i hearby claim this is unformal. put the plant back up and do it over and do it damn straight.

  • yes americans are fat i know cuz im over weight 217 i should weigh around 190! ntsb said avg is more than 20lbs higher than what is used in manuals

  • Why would I subscribe if you are too damn lazy to upload the HQ file in the first place? I will watch everyone elses channel as 280P hurts my eyes.

  • Thank you very much for teh upload. The hyperlinks are great. Thanks again

  • F*CK EARTH HOUR

(comment posted saturday march 26 2011)

  • My brother in law was on the next plane waiting to take off after this one. He watched 5481 take off and crash from his window seat.

  • Hyperlinks are really helpful but please put them at the top of the screen. They get blocked when using full screen mode by the progress bar and can not be pressed.

  • audio was out

  • This could have been an excellent documentary, but it was "dumbed down." Lines like "powerful jet blast", "engine rotors" and "flight elevators" are truly cringeworthy comments. These lines should not have been in this programme. Being overweight did not cause this aircraft to crash. It was caused by loss of control due to an inaccurate C of G calculation, the recovery was not possible due to a miss-rigged elevator. The C of G calculation was in error because of the standard weight policy.

  • LOL! TYPICAL!!! Fat Americans cause more death!

  • tHE NTSB girl is soo fuckin hott

  • it was the lazy mechanic's and the bad calculating by the pilots' fault, they should know that this figure just just an estimate and if i were a pilot and my plane just barely made the weight limit, i would throw out some suitcases. not every person is the same, that's common knoweldge, it shouldn't take death to come to this fact. what goes up must come down...sometimes violently.

  • @nodevoutt no, the pilots DID the calculations correctly, using a passenger/baggage weight formula that didn't accurately reflect the passenger/luggage true average weight. I put most of the blame on the mechanics. If there is one thing you can NOT get wrong or skimp on is making sure aircraft specs are up to par. An underinflated tire and lack of lubrication on parts HAS crashed airplanes. You should see what even private privates flying Cessnas have to do before they even start the engine.

  • This indicates two fundamental questions about American civilian flying.

    1. Why don't American Airlines apologise as a rule?

    2. Why is the FAA reluctant to force airlines to spend more money on precautionary measures?

  • how do you download the original videos???

    THNX for uploading

  • Go Pilot

  • Two Words Pat Tillman

The Shepards deserve the real truth

  • @pa600a another f5 words:" Pat Tillman was a moron."

That puny 5'11" moron left his wife after having a stable multi million dollar contract available to him, only to shot/killed by his own troops!

What a dork you both are!

  • i must say..that the captain WAS really in control of herself..i mean i don't think in a situation like that one could actually have a heart to give an emergency call to the tower....Bravo!!

  • All actions are submitted to risk. Risk has many faces, like errors during maintenance or in calculating an average weight. What disturbes me the most is that some companies still use those averages after the investigation. From the moment the bad situation started to develop up until the end of the in vestigation, everyone did his best, WITH good results. And about the comment about the so called 'fat American suckers'... Please.. people.. vent your frustrations elsewhere.

  • people ??? bunch of looser,s!!!!and you lazy fat fucks are a disgrace!!!!!!

  • Men are women are equal but different. it is a better world when we accept our differences and celebrate them. Not when we berate each other & try to score points. The scientific reality is that the differences in genders is more than physiological. Humans are the crowing glory of the universe. For all our rubbish, we are still an amazing piece of work.

  • Attention all Pilots - Be EXTREMELY Vigilant during the Pre-Flight Inspections on your aircraft! - Don't leave Any Important Details Out! - Be Cognizant of any maintenance issues - especially on the Flight Controls. Attention Maintenance Personnel - DON'T Skip Any Steps in service procedures! Attention all OBESE People - This should Drive Home the POINT that Obesity is Hazardous to your Health - And to the Health of All those people who get stuck flying in the same aircraft with You ! ! !

  • When are the airlines going to start charging people for every pound they weigh over the average?

  • @vitaeterna I Fully AGREE! - Overweight people MUST be charged a higher airfare - and the real FAT ones should be required to purchase 2 seats! Maybe that would send them the important message - YOU NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT !

  • Every time something like this happens someone should be held criminally responsible, especially if it is a safety or maintinance or procedural issue because if you don't hold anyone responsible then no one will ever take responsibility and it will just keep happening.

  • "New technologies are being developed . . ." I wasn't aware that scales were new technology.

  • @Snipe4261 If you noticed, it also calculated where to put each passenger, based on their weight :P

  • I really like those ACI videos. They' re just so interresting!

  • isnt it odd how when we travel somewere we all make sure we go through all the steps in making sure we have everything just right and dont forget anything only to get on a jet that some fat mechanic that only cares about his next check just got done working on. May the passengers r.i.p.

  • a nice tale about women working in high-responsibility and life-saving jobs. Well done to them and equality and respect between the sexes is what will make this world a safer and more peaceful place.

  • @Fishwel except men and women can never be equal.

  • @DLPBurke in what sense?

  • a nice tale about women working in high-responsibility and life-saving jobs. Well done to them and equality and respect between the sexes is what will make this world a safer and more peaceful place.

  • Why do we always hear the words "sub contracting" involved negatively in so many situarions. In aviation or anything with a safety issue, it should be banned. Also, start using corporate manslaughter laws and fine the airlines, and bang up any responsible directors.

  • Simpler solution to the weight problem: As the plane taxis out away from the terminal, now fully loaded, have it roll over a scale on the ground - first the front wheels, getting one weight measurement, then the rear wheels, getting another weight measurement. Getting these as two separate measurements checks how the weight is loaded front-to-back. Each aircraft would have published rules about what the ratio between those two measures should be for that aircraft.

  • ok,i am nt being sexist, but never put a female pilot incharge of a A380.put her in charge of a space shuttle,i dnt care, but dnt put a female pilot hwever vast experience she has in charge of a A380 or a 747-8,never ever!!!!!!

  • @ssscyborg1987 true, so true. If i was in that plane and she would come over the intercom with "hi i'm your captain" i would get the fuck outta there

  • @ssscyborg1987 That's CLEARLY sexist. You're saying that women can't fly airplanes but sex does NOT determine whether or not a person can or can't do something.

  • @BellyLover06 sexist???? nowhere did i mention that they should fly an airiner, plz read my comment thoroughly!I only recommend that they dont operate advanced and huge aircraft like A380 and 747,which carry a lot of passengers and valuable luggage, which have advanced controls and instrumentry and a single mistake can bring the whole plane down(in case of a 747)!even if a pilot cannot operate a plane dat small then wats the use??

  • @BellyLover06 And btw many female pilots of the air force and navy have assigned as captains or pilots on space shuttle missions...Go check it out fr urself before realising the facts!!

  • @BellyLover06 I can't give birth or breastfeed..

  • @rrynek That is the exception I meant to add.

  • @BellyLover06 does it not? So who are the best sports people? Fastest Runners? Best Footballers? Best Chess players?

    Clearly. Sex does matter.

  • If you are going to use average weights to ESTIMATE carrying weight, it should be common sense that some buffer must be considered when an inaccurate estimation comes this close to the weight limit.

  • I am thinking, the pilot could have had a chance to push the nose down and gain control if she had the gear down again. The problem started as soon as she had the gear up and therefore she lost balance. But I guess she really did not have time to think of this.

  • @fxm8 The problem is that when you are going into a stall, the reason you are trying to get the nose down is to gain speed, and therefore, lift. If she put the gear back down, she would likely lose even more forward velocity. She was absolutely doing the right thing to try to get that nose down, even though she didn't know that her effort was doomed by the faulty cable adjustments.

  • @fxm8 To decide to try controlling pitch by shifting the weight around instead of using the elevator, the pilot would first need to be aware that the elevator's movement was restricted so it could not go down. The primary problem is that the pilot doesn't know that's what's happening. A secondary problem is that the landing gear shifting weight backward when it retracts is not a universal configuration and is rather unique to this aircraft - not something the pilot would try right away.

  • Yeah uhhhhh dont worry about those

  • Just put scales on the ground that the wheels rest on... fail safe!

  • @eruditesickle0216 Great point! The technology already exists for that... trucker scales. Trucker scales can be made to be flush with the tarmac. Have three scales, one center that is 5 feet wide, and one on each side of it. Since all airplanes' wheels are tripod positioned, the front wheel would be on the center, and the other rear ones are on the side scales. Each plane model has its own weight and weight distribution ratings. If the front wheel is too light, it's tail heavy, and vise versa.

  • @eruditesickle0216 Build said scale on exit taxiway, and employ two people to run it 24hrs a day. Minimal cost involved... May not even need to cause any delay, if you design it so it would weigh each wheel accuratly while planes roll over it 5 to 10 MPH

  • RIP you will not be forgotton.

  • nice babe @ 2:05 & 2:15.

  • When your takeoff weight is near the limit, don't climb so steep. Stupid woman.

  • @duhlive - you've clearly not watched all of the episodes have you stupid...?

  • @amalfimike who is stupid? Their calculation is already near the limit, and this situations happened before, guess what? no one stalled the plane like she did.

  • @duhlive - oh please ...are you suggesting an over-weight plane has never crashed before.....google Aaliyah plane crash. Now go away ...

  • @amalfimike What I was saying is to stall a 1900D in a ridiculous way, not just any over-weight crash. And dont use pleease or go away, if you are a man.

  • @duhlive There is no evidence that the climb rate was too steep for the calculated takeoff rate. As the video makes clear, the problem was an inaccurate formula for calculation and a faulty rudder cable adjustment by a low-bid subcontractor.

  • lol fat people

  • What happened to the flower arrangement behind?

  • stop eating mcdcs americans

  • A simple solution ought to be to have something in the plane's suspension that would automatically calculate the weight, and by comparing the weight on the nose versus main wheels would be able to tell where the CG is. That info could simply be displayed on a screen in the cockpit.

  • @FliegenCockatiel and that's not very simple, in fact.

  • it was the indolent fat black man. he killed them all. RIP

  • thats why cessnas ROCK!

  • i liked it but... i think in all of this accidents te hero is always the captain, the most important death, and the co-pilot is almost never important...do u know what i mean?

  • @racsopetrenas I dont understand how they can say the Captain was the hero. What did she do that someone fighting for their life wouldnt? Fighting the controls and attempting to avoid a big concrete building in your way is something everyone would do, its hardly heroic.

  • @racsopetrenas I dont understand how they can say the Captain was the hero. What did she do that someone fighting for their life wouldnt? Fighting the controls and attempting to avoid a big concrete building in your way is something everyone would do, its hardly heroic.

  • i really like the way you have these linked - i subscribed - thanks - good job :P

  • Here is the answer for you. (Speed Keeps the plane in the air). Lowering the gears produces a lot of drag which results in reducing the speed. In this particular case The angle was too high, speed was already too less which had destroyed the lift, (No Pilot would ever lower the gear when the plane is stalling) Even if she did, she would had more difficulty controling the stalling plane, to avoid killing many more people on ground. Avg Baggage wgt is 23kg Not 9.06. And ofcourse Pssgr wgt.

  • @deexith86 I got the cause an other way. The plane was already overweighted plus they didn't spread the weights normally, so the gravity center was "moved" on the back. The front landing gear was functioning as a counterbalance, keeping the gravity center at a position so the plane was able to fly, until the pilot pull back the landing gears. Then the balance was destroyed. Meanwhile, the metal ropes which had different sizes could not permit the pilots to take back the plane to normal position.

  • Here is the answer for you... As you lower the landing gears, the drag increases which results in reducing the speed. In this particular case the pitch was too high an speed was too less which had already desttroyed the lift and plane was stalling, lowering the gears would have had added more difficulty in controling the plane, What this show concludes is most of the passangers carry more than 23 Kg of Baggage in an Avg. which was rather assumed as 9.06 Kg.

  • Question to any pilots reading this... what would have happened if they'd lowered the landing gear before the stall? Would it have been enough to somewhat re-balance the plane or was it too late? I guess they would have still had trouble landing, but I was wondering if they would at least have had some more control with the gear down albeit temporary.

  • A woman pilots a plane that crashes, her body is found by a woman fire fighter, and the crash is investigated by a woman. Our world is changing, and probably for the better.

  • lol i know.. one ep that got all these women in it.. amazing.

  • @tantzer Who says that is for the better, or worse. Frankly, does it really make a difference who pilots planes, fights fires or investigates, as long as it is done competently, its all the same.

  • @tantzer We still need more women engineers! So ladies please, put down that gossip magazine and pick up a calculus textbook :P

  • @tantzer but the mechs was men, still have a ways to go

  • @tantzer I would count the firefighter as a women....whe looks like a dude....

  • @tantzer very funny..Plane was crashed that was flown by a woman, Every one was killed when a woman comes to rescue and the investigation was done by a sick woman which seems incomplete. You said it was for the better??? you must be the fourth woman of this sequence..World is much safer without women because they create unwanted problem.Only thing they are good at is help reproducing man kind. In simple words we need them to F**K. That's why God created women in the first place.U need a brake

  • @janakaabeywickrama Dear Janaka Abeywickrama, If you were a half-intelligent person, you wouldn't post hate speech under your real name. This comment will show every time somebody googles your name. Lack of intelligence is also what explains that you think the crash was the pilot's fault. Above all, it is insecurity about your intelligence and masculinity that leads you to hate women. By the way, no, I'm not a woman.

  • @tantzer Ok Sir, I agree, I'm not the smartest person on earth. I use my real name coz I got nothing to hide and am not afraid to use it like u. So what if someone googles my name?.Can they hang me for my comment. I don't hate women. Why would I?. If I was that captain, when that other lady said cargo was too heavy I'd get off the A/C and do a weight & Balance over again my self. So it was HER fault and paid for that with her life Sir.If u were a Pilot you'd know this.Sorry If I hurt ur feelings

  • They won't hang you. But they may refuse to give you the job you've applied for, admit you to the university program you've applied for, or refuse to date you if you ask them out. Also, five years from now you may become a more mature person and feel ashamed of what you wrote previously, but it'll be too late, and you can't change it. The hate speech will follow you for the rest of your life. If you ever have a daughter or granddaughter, she'll read it, even after you're dead.

  • @tantzer And she could've gotten power to throtle to re-gain some controlability of A/C rather than screaming " oh my god" It may not work but worth a try. I'd do that. She must have done calculated W & B. Coz when they calculated they were almost at gross weight & other lady said she thought cargo was too heavy. That must have given her a clue that they were in Danger what were they thinking?. IT WAS ALL HER FAULT AND PAID FOR THAT WITH THEIR LIVES. Any Pilot would agree with me I'm sure of it.

  • Nice job Endurance! Subscribing. =)

  • That was great! And your hyper-linking the following parts was a very welcome, and considerate gesture to your viewers. And because of this I am definitely subscribing to your channel!

  • thnx! I shall post more sooner!

  • @canuckrcp Yeah. You really think about your subscribers!:))

  • wow, they didn't revise the weights since 1936? people were less fat back then and the luggage weren't compact weights back then either.

  • I agree with 050278. The scale should be a go/no go guage. Those not allowed on the plane should be sent directly to a fat farm via city bus

  • The obvious answer is to weigh the passengers as well as the baggage at check-in before they board the plane as they did at 2:07 . "Sorry pal you're just too fat; now take a hike asshole"

  • some planes hav another method. if u can't fit in the seat, ur too fat, get off.

  • If the fattest people had all moved to the front of the plane, it would have righted itself.

  • All I can say is that the doctors were right all along - obesity kills.

  • Hey I thank God for people like Lorinda Ward (NTSB Investigator) who changed the average weights used for calculations that has made flying a whole lot safer. She went the extra mile - didn't just do the minimum at her job - well done.

  • safest way to fly! ahahahah! please review the statistics.

  • Mechanical pooh-job aside, I'm stunned the average passenger weights have not been changed since the 1930's...It was the depression era! people were starving! Now we are dying by the kfc bucket load of obesity related illness. Imagine the public outcry if airline introduced 'No fatties in back, due to faulty elevator flaps' boarding policy on their small commuter flights. Sad that people have to die for procedure to be changed...

  • Or during the 70s. But there was the fashion of the 70s which pressed people to be thin. I remember that I was in excausting diets even during the 80s.

  • Weighing of planes is done based on approximations and averages?! I'm shocked. Here I was thinking that sensors on the gear shocks were used to measure weight and CG accurately and it turns out they aren't?! Unbelievable.

  • So stupid, if people did there job's right, i dont understand.

  • yeah..i think that airplane mechanics forget the critical things of their job..probably with the routine they begin to think like an industrial mech..'be quick and do less work as possible'...the fault is coming from the bosses i think, they dont' responsabilize them enough. May be spend a little time in a class showing and explaining air crash like these clips do can help...

  • Thank you for posting all five parts of this program. It is facsinating and enlightening.

  • blame fat American fuckers ;)

  • @BaliNights Many pizzas, colas and peanut butter can be destructive ;-(

  • If my job depended on people's lives I would never cut coners no matter what. I don't understand how people can be so careless, it's so sad.

  • money that's why

  • First off. I am a 6'2" 191lbs guy. I'm not fat by an stretch of the imagination. I am called slim, or string bean all the time. The problem here is the baggage. Who the hell needs 80lbs worth of crap in their bags?!?! I've seen it! I mean what? Clothes and essentials aren't enough? Do people really have to take their whole medicine cabinet with them? Do they really need ALL of their hair products? Should they really take that bowling ball? I think not. lol

  • @DLPBurke Really? I'm overweight? Dude.. I wear jeans with a 32 waist size. I'm a tennis player. How am I overweight? I'm lanky as hell. Shaggy looked more buff than me.

  • @GeneralKenobiSIYE I hastily wrote without doing my math... and then removed the post. Very stupid of me.

  • @GeneralKenobiSIYE hang on 191 ibs is only 13 stone. For your height that is not overweight at all.

But that guy on this video was clearly way over.

  • @DLPBurke Yeah he was. But really... 80lbs of luggage? What are people bringing on board? Their miniature anvil collections? I've packed for a two week trip in a single shoulder bag, and had my laptop.

  • @GeneralKenobiSIYE anyway I think I was being ignorant... There are so many idiots online that I end up saying stuff I shouldnt to people who don't deserve it. My apologies.

  • so basically,,,blame it on KFC that people are getting Bigger and Bigger ... its a fact tho, americans are getting fatter day by day,,, their like monsters...

  • they are only safer if the suggestions are acted upon, and the apology was bollocks and only came after they lost the legal case which forced them.

  • I don't believe the apology. it's a PR gesture
