Idk. I prefer 14x8. Like, my snare cracks like crazy, and it's 14x8, 10 ply maple shell with the usual 45 degree bearing edges, though my next one's going to be 14x8 cast brass, which I can't wait for.

i rekon they use really hard wood, like the wood used on railway sleepers, thats just a guess though, but it's something the drum company must have taken into consideration.

wood hoops are the way to go, ive had them on my snare for 5 years, you WON'T break them with rim shots.

you should crank that thing with the tuning, it'll sound a lot more full, they can handle it too, 20 plys of wood are very strong
