Callas' voice wasn't beautifully tamed. NO tone, NO good coloratura, NO control over her metallic voice, bad technique for her frayed, clumsy and weak coloratura.

As an opera actress she wast one of the best, but sometimes she was overacting. Her drama on her voice was remarcable, but her unpolished voice wasn't the best.

Tebaldi retired too late. Read Schuyler Chapin´s book "Sopranos, Mezzos, Tenors, Bassos, and Other Friends". In in he describes how terribly she was singing Desdemona in the early 1970s.
