  • hey tom im just wondering if you have ever used a linux pls reply

  • Hey, i just have a question.

    Can I install normal DDR2 RAM into a late 2005 Dual 2,3GHz G5?

    Please responde its important

    Thanks :)

  • @RamiRiefert The late 2005 G5's take PC2-4200 533Mhz DDR2 (240 Pin) - It needs to be installed in matched pairs. Maximum 16GB (2GB per slot). Hope this helps :)

  • Got my G5 two weeks ago. Quad core, 2GB RAM, 750GB and Apple 20" display all for £190.

  • Should I get one of them? its a Power Mac G5 1,8 GHz DP, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB, ATI Radeon 9600XT AGP x8 128MB 1 x ADC 1x DVI

    259€

    I live in Germany :D

  • @MrMinecraftAwes0me I'm not too sure what the prices are like in Germany, but that sounds pretty good to me :)

  • Where are you from? I love your accent.

  • @nannynicky4life england.

  • Someone has one for sale on craigslist for $375...I am tempted to buy it.

  • I want one!!!!

  • I will buy exactly the same one hope it will work

  • I just bought a Powermac G5 for $100 and a 23 inch Apple ADC display for $50 on eBay LOL

Sure my MacBook is probaly faster and runs Lion and my PC that I built with a core i7 is like having a tiny god on my desk but man this Powermac G5 was a well thought out design and you can buy a whole setup for next to nothing, but if you're a nerd like me you'll have fun playing around with it and for most people it has more power than they'll ever need. But I still think the G4 Cube is the best computer

  • Goshh.. you sounds like Stewie from Family Guy)

  • hey man have you upgraded your superdrive yet mine has the dvdR+ and isnt very good haha if your selling it let me know bud great video by the way :)

  • But you can't run Snow leapord on it.

  • Can you use a 2TB hard drive on it?

  • do you need the bluetooth antenna to use bluetooth?

  • So will the Wifi still work without that antenna

  • is the mac loud when its on?

  • I don't see the performance comparison video he promised?

  • Do you know if this would accept a standard AGP Radeon x1600PRO?

  • @tipoomaster Hey man... You can only use cards that are compatible with PowerMac's. Cards that are distributed from Apple only. You can also find people online that flash PC cards to work in Mac's... Or you could try flashing yourself :)

  • @ItsMyNaturalColour

Thanks for the info. I see a few of these for sub-400 on my local Kijiji, but all with very outdated graphics (radeon 9600, geforce 6600, etc). I have the mentioned graphics card that would of been a big upgrade for them. I want it mostly for novelty's sake but with decent graphics I think it could be a fair day to day experience.

  • @electrobussterr I am an Apple fan yes, but I don't hate every other company out there. I just think this is a nice machine. I didn't mean to come across as arrogant, but it is a wonderful design and it's almost like a work of art to look at. When this came out in 2003, all the competition in the Windows world consisted of beige hardware. The G5 is nice and I was just portraying my opinion.

    Thanks for watching...

  • PowerPCs are shit, thats why apple moved to Intel.

Snow Leopard has the app store, you have fuck all.

  • @y4m0m (clap clap) he has a 8 core mac pro now

  • @y4m0m that's not true power p c is in fact better than in tel in tel is capable of viruses i.b.m is a more compose company than in tel are creator of the g5 processors apple change everything to make more profit what company doesn't make a change to make more money just get leopard install on your g5, you don't need to get the mac pro its wast of money if you already own a power mac g5 power mac g5 can do everything the mac pro is capable of doing

  • @y4m0m

x86 architure is bull shit compared to ppc g5

  • @skaterchevy

6 years ago, maybe. The G5 is a 5-6 year old architecture and modern x86 chips (such as Sandy Bridge) are far ahead of it, like you would expect. IBM themselves now have much more powerful PPC chips like the Power7.

  • @tipoomaster

oops yeah, i meant 5-6 years ago x86 compared to g5 sorry. it's rumoured apple may be moving to ARM chips in a few years or so.

  • Nice video but u don't need a antenna for the Bluetooth to work I have a powermac g5 and I don't need a antenna

  • Luv the vid, but I gotta correct you on one part...what you called a filter for the CPU's is actually a radiator for cooling the heated water that passes thru it. For all those folks out there looking to buy an older PowerMac G5, DO NOT buy one with a water cooled system (or LCS)!! The seals wear out considerably fast (especially on the heat exchanger plate for the dual CPU's) If u cant find a air-cooled G5, buy a late '05 quad or newer. The LCS design is better.

  • if i rembember correctly pulling the transparent plastic out won't shut down the G5 just boosts the fans to the max.

  • do u need the antenna, to get an airport signal, or can u just have the airport card in?

  • i have 10.6 on a ppc

  • @zac1256 So how would you do that?

  • You get a program called q. make a new vm pc go to setting set it to pc 64 pc. then you boot iboot wich u jest google it to get it. the put the 10.6 disk in then press f5. the click on snow lepord install disk boot in install it.

But u will need a g5 with a lot of ram and prosser. and The max of ram no the vp is 4 gigs.

  • very very very nice review ( you said very very very like 10 times)

  • @Tjeggss Yes I did :)

That's how much I like the machine.... Just expressing it... Glad you like the review and it was very very very nice of you to take the time to comment.

  • very very very nice review ( you said that like 10 times)

  • i'm sorry but we speak English the correct way. Not british

  • @Simonhp LOL british is english and sounds a hell of alot better than fucking americans u fucking twat, and im from canada LOL

  • Sweet... Love this machine, glad to see Power PC is still appreciated!

  • 6:36 the g5 can only support 500gigs of hard drive space

  • @lukeool That's a lie sorry... Got 1.25TB in her right now :)

    Tom

  • wait a minute, my friend has a mac mini and it has a PowerPC G4 1.42 GHz processor in it.

  • You also cant really compare a G5 powermac or any windows pc to a laptop lol

  • you dont want WD Green if your installing a OS on one of the drives :) so get a 1tb WD Black and 1 WD green for storage :)

  • british dialekt is so ugly

  • @SchwaboKing Lol

  • @SchwaboKing

Ha. You can't even spell it right.

  • If i get a powermac and upgrade it, will it be just as good as a new mac pro?

  • @EricWebb95x I'm afraid not... It will probably be comparable to a low end iMac or Mac Mini.... And that's if you max it out fully..

    Tom

  • @ItsMyNaturalColour i thought it could tae 4 video cards and take a good quality intel, so youre telling me i payed 750 for nothing Y_Y

  • @MrNicktheparakeet Take a good quality Intel? This is a PowerPC machine... If you payed 750 for one of these then you've been ripped off...

  • @EricWebb95x lol dude mac pro has up to 12 cores man

and i had a ppc and trust me intel is much more worth it

u can do more and work with more software/apps !!!

  • @EricWebb95x Unfortunately not. In 2007 I would've said maybe, but not now. The support has gone way too bad for PowerPC based machines, and this type of machine is totally incomparable to a new Mac Pro. The lowest end Mac Pro's are about 4x quicker than this G5, and the highest end Mac Pro's are up to 11x quicker. This scores around 2100 in Geekbench, and some Mac Pro's can achieve 22,000 easily.

  • you definatly sold me on getting one of these, it'll be my first mac aswell great starting point :)

  • @seanhawkins09 That's awesome!

    Good luck with it :)

    Tom

  • Very Cool, Fantastic Powermac G5. Well Done, but i know you are missing your MDD, But im sure this will ease any sort of issues what so ever.LOL (",). NICE!!!!

  • Great vid man! Do you know if they still sell airport antennas?

  • @TrailerTank Thanks man! :)

Yearp you can find them very easily :)

    Tom

  • That is one gorgeous Mac.

  • awesome vid haha

  • Nice. I wanna buy one close to the same specs to replace my g4. nice vid.

  • great video btw what was the specs on your powermac g4?

  • @17fattys Hey man... Thanks!:) PowerMac G4 MDD 2002 Dual 1.0GhZ CPU 2GB DDR RAM 160GB Hard Drive 22x Superdrive Bluetooth AirPort Leopard :) Tom
  • @ItsMyNaturalColour do you think a powermac G5 with 1.8ghz single core and 1 gig of ram will be fast enough for general stuff like itunes, photoshop, imovie etc?

  • How was the trip?

  • @pingpongwizzard It was really really good thanks! :):)

    Tom

  • Talk about a design that can stand the test of time! beautiful!

  • @itsonlydesign Very very true!

    Thanks... :)

    Tom

  • Awesome Video

  • @macprorocks Thanks very much! :)

    Tom

  • Can you play HD videos from YouTube on it?

  • @TechGeekProductions Yearp :) Very easily :)

    Tom

  • @ItsMyNaturalColour So you can play 1080p video? And you can do other things at the same time.

  • @TechGeekProductions Yeahh! :)

My internet connection isn't good enough to buffer 1080p YouTube videos, but if I let it buffer and then watch it, the CPU is at around 60% :)

    Tom

  • @TechGeekProductions WOW! I didn't think these G5 Powermacs could run HD video. I might get one of these. Should I get this or a Mac Mini?

  • @TechGeekProductions They are much more capable than people think :)

I should have a stress test / performance video up soon so you can see what i t really does.

Well at the end of the day it all comes down to the fact that this is running on an architecture that's now classed as outdated. :/ This doesn't bother me, but it bothers lots and lots of people, and those people have to buy an Intel Mac.

    Tom

  • Do you use this or your MacBook more?

  • @smedly500 NO HE DONT HAVE ONE ?? HE HAVES A POWERPC

  • @Saltydko he has a macbook as well you ignorant shouting baboon.

  • @itsonlydesign l DIDNT know seesh

  • @smedly500 I use this for all the hardcore stuff and the MacBook for all the 'normal' or every-day stuff :)

    Tom

  • sweet
