I adore the clk gtr, but I don't get the idea of making a race car resemble a road car it has nothing in common with.

I guess it's a marketing strategy but it seems more insulting to the intelligence of their customers...

There were three similar Mercedes race cars in the late 90's...The CLK GTR (V12) from '97/'98...the CLK LM (V8) which took over from the CLK-GTR in '98 and the CLR (V8) from '99 which is the car that flipped at Le Mans in '99

The CLR based (very, very loosely) on the W215 CL road car not the W208 CLK like the CLK GTR and CLK LM...with the 'R' on the end denoting that it's a race version

It's not CLR 'GTP' either, GTP was just the category it raced in at Le Mans and not part of the cars name

I guess it's because of cars like this and the Porsche GT1 being around for over a decade why I feel a little underwhelmed by stuff like the Enzo and Zonda.. even the Carrera GT to a lesser extent.

I hope we see more cars like this in future but, sadly, the way things are global economy wise, climate etc. that's seriously unlikely.

They stopped making the race version after it took off three times, one rather spectacularly ending up in the trees at Le Mans, after Mark Webbers car becoming airborne twice before that. Car is also in PGR2/3 and in Forza 1 & 2 where it is mega fast

Um dude you a confused which is my polite way of saying WRONG. The CLK-GTR NEVER FLIPPED. What you are talking about was the CLK CLR which came AFTER the CLK GTR. The CLR program was cancelled not the Glk Gtr. Race version? All Clk Gtr's are race version cars.

And mercedes has 3 roadsters, and only 2 were sold to the public. The black one is currently on sale at an auction coming up soon, and the silver one resides somewhere in the US. Your claims are false.....

There are 25 Coupés! The GT1 reglement requires 25 road going versions. So there are 25, built from November '98 to mid '99. The 5 roadsters came in 2002.

I don't care how unpractical this care might be, is still one of the most amazing cars in the world. I think the only car that i like more then this is the Porsche 911 GT1 Evo 'Strassenversion' and maybe the new Pagani Zonda R. They are like pieces of art. The car looks and seems so intimidating, but i would describe it like a elegant beast. I never get bored of seeing and hearing this car.

How many did they make, less then 50? Anyway that's more then the Porsche 911 GT1 street version :)
