I bought my '97 GLE from a dealership when it came off a two year lease in '99. I've been driving it for eleven years now and it just turned 199,000 miles. With its dark brown rosewood exterior, gold pin-striping and black leather interior it is also a great looking car that still looks new and modern on the road. This car rocks! I've done zero to 60 in 6.2 seconds and it is so nimble I've gotten out of situations that seemed impossible. Without a doubt this is the best car I've ever owned.

I got a1996 SE 5 speed black on black with heated leather, bose sound, moonroof, limited slip, pwr everything fukn awsome car even with 120000 on the clock. i saw 1 the other day with 286000 on it! I have the original sticker and it sold for 28,800 when new. Whoever paid that must have really wanted the 5 speed! I think you can get a new 1 for that now! Its almost as good as my 89 supra turbo!

@ministryofp4in yea i agree,but GM still need to work on there kinks its gettin kinda old now....my grandmothers 05 chevy equniox has only 44,000 miles and its paid for with an extended warr. and the struts has been replaced on both sides, has a new a/c blower, and now the car's startin to hesitate when startin like the batterys dying, and just recently she say's it cranks normal again wtf??, but Gm shold work on the middle class vehicles better, it should'nt be only trucks and V8's that last.

I'm restoring a beater 1997 Maxima right now. It came to me with torn up seats, oxidized paint, an engine with 200k miles, but I still fell in love with it. So far it's at 245k miles, I've painted her and replaced the seats. I'm waiting for the engine to die so I can replace it with a VQ35DE, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon. Thanks for making such a great car, Nissan. :)

i just got a 97 maxima like 1 month ago it was prity roughf in the engine but it had all the options leather, trim ,sunroof ext. it turns out it had all types of sensor problems changed them all and its alternator and starter and air-conditioning for about 800$ now ...its my baby.. even thow right now its in the shop for a water pump leak..i dont wana sell it even if it keeps on costing me way to much to fix ..i love the car and hope some day it calms down feels loved and stops braking things

Get a stillen y-pipe, ebay short ram intake, you can get ebay exhaust cheap or monza for like 350$ - remove cat and get high flow resignator (sometimes comes with exhaust) and you'll be happy ;)

@96vqSE5 Just picked up a '95 w/under 80k eng. (swap), lightened flywheel, y pipe + hi flow cat. Cold air intake (long version), variable flow intake (3.5 add on) & this crazy 'Apex i') vtec contoller that's in the glove box. I was told it dynoed 226 at frt. wheels. It runs flawless, haven't even got on it yet.

do a google search for 3.5 maxima swap or look on maxima d o t org. You can do the full swap with the 02-03 computer or you swap the timing gear from the 3.0L engine and splice in the 3.5L injectors.

'99 maxima, my cuz has a '97 540i 281HP on dyno, my car and his car are both auto, we raced on a stop light and he owned the shit out of me, it's a nice but not fast enough, i wish they pumped more out of the 3.0V6, that engine should easily hit over 200HP.

The 5spd has much better acceleration than the autotragic as well.

The only thing I don't understand about some of the advertising of the 4th gen Maxima is that they never used the loaded SE model in some vids like this one. I mean, leather, heated seats, fog lights, a spoiler, a power sunroof, and everything was avaliable. Plus they have better stockers (rims), white-faced gauges, and I believe a tweaked suspension. They just look way better, more of a four-door-sports-car over the luxury GLE or base GXE. Just my two cents lol

The SE does look worlds better then the GLE with its awkward chrome door handles and apple pie wheels.

I'm not sure why they used a GLE for these performace comparisons. An SE with a stick is a few 10ths quicker to 60 than a 540i automatic.

That's the first thing that came to my mind as well. The only part of this video where the GLE looks better is where they show the Wood accent interior, the SE doesn't offer that. The se does look eon's better. This video is pretty cool and I have to say 5 stars. Thanks for posting!
